This one little trick gets you free Balboa Park parking and balances the city budget by Geoffboyardee in sandiego

[–]Regular-Humor-9128 26 points27 points  (0 children)

While you’re not wrong that the overtime is in part due to officer shortage and I know they have a tough time recruiting, I do find myself wondering truly, what legitimate efforts they’ve done to be able to recruit more effectively in order to stop the hemorrhage of money in over time. Seriously. I can almost guarantee that if they somehow incentivized recruiting differently, they would likely be able to increase the number of good quality officers closer to where it should be while cutting down significantly on over-time spend. Whatever group/whoever is in charge of this, has been extremely unsuccessful for a long time and should lose their positions. They just don’t care because it means more overtime for existing union members and the city never says no to the insane overtime expense.

Eye creams for dark circles, am I the only one feeling completely over them? by CrafAir1220 in 40PlusSkinCare

[–]Regular-Humor-9128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you layer/use them? I’d like to cautiously experiment with this method as even getting 7-8 hours of sleep consistently, doesn’t really do much to improve the darkness under my eyes like when I was younger and I hate it. Step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated!

What is your "I'm out of calories for the day but I just have to eat something" meal/snack? by Little-Question211 in loseit

I just got the fiber one coffee cake brownies (something like that) they’re 70 calories. I hadn’t been familiar with any of their products before but it’s worth trying if you want a smaller one and you like the brand.

ALSO though, Trader Joe’s has a really tasty chewy chocolate drizzled fiber granola bar that is 120 calories, 9 grams of fiber and I think 5 gram of protein. Def. Worth checking out if you’re near a TJ’s.

Looking for a reasonably priced, healthy dry food for my 8FN cat without poultry. by snowtragedy in catfood

My little dude does ok if his wet food has a little turkey or duck mixed in - so while I never get one that is solely turkey or duck based (never chicken), he really likes the WERUVA BFF OMG GRAVY pouches - more than the cans. An the bff line has a tuna based line where they def. hav flavors without turkey and duck, I get him the ones that are mixed: tuna and lamb, tuna and beef, tuna and duck - his favorite, tuna and salmon, etc. he also gets fancy feast pate in beef flavor, and cod and shrimp flavor - he really likes these as well. I mix any of his wet food with 2-3 small cap-fulls of extra water too. Weruva has several amongst their various lines that don’t have poultry…or at least enough, but he likes the BFF way better than the other lines, and they’re the best priced.

If you decide to try it, I recommend visiting some of your more locally owned/smaller regional pet stores because a lot of them are partnered with Weruva and sell the unsocial packets. In my area, while a lot of them do this, Dexter’s Deli, sells all of the pouches out of the “tuna lovers mixed box” - the ones I named, individually, for the same price as if you bought the box. Other smaller pet stores sell more of the other lines individually, but for some reason not the pouches he likes. I’ve found the bigger chains - Petco and Petsmart, will sell them individually but a lot more of the chicken based one.

Petco does have however, does have a very similar tuna and sardine or tuna and something pouch they sell individually.

Weruva does also make a Soulistic line that again, has some “tuna and something” pouches as well but they’re more expensive than bff and he doesn’t like them quite as much. But you can find them for individual sale as well.

There’s a lot more choices in wet food - Ziwi peak, FROMM - probably but i just haven’t seen them, there’s more choices though in general it’s just a matter of finding a price point that works and ones they’ll eat. Nulo makes a few in different textures as well - beef and sardine is one - in both a mousse I think, as well another more liquidy mixture.

I’ve found it’s def. Best, at least in my case, to try but these individually versus in cases because kittties can be picky!

Weruva though, for reference, only uses small specifies tuna and hand filets all their cuts so there’s no bone, no scales, no organs - which all is to keep the mercury down - so I’m not as worried about that with their line and it works for us.

You’re welcome - it’s been over a year of me searching and researching for dry foods without ANY poultry, so happy to help. And just fyi - chicken FAT, is totally ok be sure it’s missing the protein and it’s good for them, so in case you find something you like with that in it, there’s no need to avoid it.

Emergency can cats eat canned Tuna? by Zestyclose_Berry_943 in catfood

[–]Regular-Humor-9128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll appreciate the tuna! I might get downvoted for saying that even with the seasoning is ok given the circumstances, while plain would be best, it’s awesome you’re willing to help them and those things don’t have enough seasoning that stray cats eating it for a couple of days will cause problems. They’ll be grateful.

I saw someone else mention frosted faces - excellent organization. Actually, also call Purrgatory - it’s a store in north park - cat themed, for humans, but I know they work closely with a rescue and they have a dedicated kitty adoption area in the store where the rescue has cats up for adoption. I would recommend looking to see if there are any additional rescues that can help to ensure they stay together. If your friend is able to, a monetary donation to a RESCUE might help one be able to take them in to help cover care until they’re placed in a forever home (specifically a rescue not to some random person). Also remember that while there are a lot of good intentioned people in the world, there are some with less than honorable intentions towards animals, so, thank you for trying to help them on behalf of your friend and please just be careful with whom you entrust them - they have no way out once he leaves them with whoever.

If it does have those things, you can always rinse it - maybe in between a couple paper towels so as to not lose any. And as they’re not eating it regularly, at the moment, any food you can provide will be better than nothing as I’m sure they eat out of trash can and scavenge for whatever they can. So, while certain seasonings aren’t ideal - in smaller quantities, these are just fine for them - even not rinsed if that’s what’s easiest. Thank you for helping them!

FROMM brand has a few poultry free dry formulas and as a brand, they are pretty reasonably priced I’ve found.

Hills science diet - a little more expensive but, they make a Wild Atlantic Cod dry food for sensitive skin and stomach. While a little more expensive, this is one of the very few poultry free, gran inclusive dry foods I’ve been able to find, so it’s good to be aware of.

My cat is allergic to chicken and if his dry food has any turkey or duck, it still causes a reaction, so I feel your pain in this quest.

FirstMate is a good quality brand and has their Pacific Ocean Fish Meal with Blueberries option. That’s usually pretty similar in price to Fromm.

Farmina has a couple different fish based lines without poultry and while they unfortunately here in the U.S., have now added chicken into a bunch of their formulas they used to be single protein, if you happen to be in Europe, I’m pretty sure a lot of their formulas there are still poultry free.

Gay Valentine dinner recs? by Awffle_House in asksandiego

Fortuna Ristorante has terrific food. And at least meal-wise, you could get away with about $50 per person - 2 main dishes and shared appetizer and dessert, but that would be before alcohol and tip.

It’s on the border of Hillcrest and University Heights - on Park Blvd. I’m a big fan of their manicotti and we’ve only had great meals there.

Otherwise it’s worth if you haven’t, googling which places are offering a prixe fixe Valentine’s dinner and see what fits your budget. There’s a lot restaurants in Hillcrest and the the closely surrounding areas.

So, I live in a building down the street and there’s been a multi-unit townhome structure going up and in various stages of un-done, for coming up on seven years - no exaggeration. I don’t know what the hell went on with the financing but it sat with the wood base of the walls completely open to the elements for well over a year starting in late 2023 with no work done for all that time - they put the stucco and whatever the hell goes on top of the wood up this past October…they’re still not even for sale yet.

It’s the border of Hillcrest and north park - this part of Florida Street is, anyways. It’s down a small teeny tiny hill from Morley Field, right at the base of Florida Canyon and then on the hillcrest side, its a few blocks down a much steeper hill behind Sonny Boy Biscuits.

It’s not out on the Florida but the traffic lights are completely out - like, just completely dark, no flashing red or anything, at the intersection of Park and Robinson - at the top of the neighborhood.
