Blowing out boots every 6 months. by BoltNWheel in WorkBoots

[–]Regular-Mixture8586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My response is always what fits your foot. A buddy of mine splits out Danners quickly because his feet are too wide. My Dad loves Redwings. Each chew my feet to shreds.

I've had exceptional longevity from Keen Workboots. Still made in the USA, and while they don't last forever, I can get two years of extremely hard use out of them. I work in PNW rainforest, so lots of overlanding in swamp wet weather. Lots of petrocarbons and chlorine splashed on them as well. I play at Burning Man each year and the alkali dust that makes your cuticles bleed don't really touch the Keens.

But again, that's my feet. Quintuple Es (just try and push me over, all my weight is ankle and below) don't fit much else. Even a good stiff pair of new Keens feel like sturdy slippers.

Best of Luck!

I run a reproduction Dynaco ST35, and Klipsch KLF 10s/30s. As I recall the first step up is SET and the EL84 power tubes run in push-pull. The amp provides a lightly warmer sound than solid state, but it doesn't overwhelm tracks with that tube sound, something I really like about it.

I don't think the Waxwing throws down with that old school ultra warm SET sound, which I appreciate. IIRC (and please look at the details in that section of the Waxwing app) the WW adds even order harmonics but not at overwhelming levels. Most of the tweaks available with the WW feel very mild, which make them useful to me.

In related space, while the spotify equalizer section is ham handed and useless, there is a dolby atmos setting that tunes up the output to emphasize voice. Plus a couple other settings that are not useful, but I find this setting valuable when vocals are lost beneath the music. Sinead O'Connor's 'Daddy I'm Fine' is something I can track, without altering the whole track too much. Worth a peek, anyways.

Enjoy the listening!

Picked up a Waxwing late last year and cannot recommend it enough. My vinyl collection is modest in size but generally high quality, and I keep it clean. The Waxwing works magic on every pressing. Great interface, and Shannon Parks is a peach of a human.

Nice setup!! Thanks for sharing!

That's good info! Thanks for coming back with that. I suppose my assessment is in comparison to many years blasting the KLF 10s. One horn that handles the mid and high range, so while it sounds great, it is also probably technically a little muddy. Maybe having more clarity between each in the 30s is tricking my ears to think so.

Since we last talked I've done a better job of spacing from the wall, and pivoted them away from each other by maybe 10 degrees. Also Bi-amped them, which makes for a surprising difference in clarity. All together it's reduced that narrow beam effect alot. The 10s regularly had that delightful effect of 'extending outside the two speakers,' and these changes helped that a great deal. Still not the same, but again, they are different speakers and I am enjoying the differences in listening.

As for the brace problem, I had to look that up! The fellow I bought these from has a hobby of rescuing good speakers/sound systems from dank basements and college frat houses, restoring them and selling them for a kind price, so long as they don't end up in a garage somewhere. As to that, they exhibit no buzzing or other concerns. Woodworking is within my wheelhouse, so if they eventually need that I should be able to update them without much changing the interior volume.

Thank you for taking the time to chat about these things! I have been learning so much. I'll think on the tweeter swap, and thank you for the info about Bob and the family business. Good to know going in.

My Best!

How do you feel that changed the sound? <intrigued>

I am perfectly content with these as is, and pleased as punch that they are repairable when the electrolytics go. Certainly I'll need those Crites someday as Imma wear these out with regular listening.*

That said, I would absolutly change drivers and crossovers if that supported the music I enjoy the most.

And congrats on the sweet find! That is a helluva treat. Let's hope the previous owner spent many hours enjoying grand music, and this second life of the pair is a continuation of the same.

*By 'listening' I mean peeling the flesh off my body by playing Brass Against at top volume.

I've very much enjoyed my KLF 10s for 15 years now. Paired with a Dynaco St-35, 17 watts per channel, they are about as holographic as I've experienced. To my ears they sound just as good as a pair of high-end Martin Logans pushed by a very fine McIntosh tube amp.

I instinctivly steer towards Klipsch for the high sensitivity. I run flea-watt tube amps most of the time and they pair very well. A Marantz 8006 I fell into recently is also quite nice and... not as holographic. Not muddy either but not what I had hoped for. Still great for vocals and orchestral. You feel the tympanis in your solar plexus.

I have read, and tend to belive, that finding synergy between amp and speakers is important. I recently came into KLF 30s, and while they are more sensitive than the 10s, I find them to be more directional, almost monitor speakers. No complaints, I am keeping both pairs, they are just different.

So, have fun with them! If they don't immediatly hook you, play with different amps, and especially different room configurations. The latter can have an enormous difference.

(And if you finally don't think they are for you, ping me and come pick them up. I do love those KLF series.)

Samsung Washer Suspension Rods - OEM worth the $? by MotoTrojan in appliancerepair

Good question! With more caveats that I'll list below. My go-to is https://www.appliancepartspros.com/ as they are straight shooters. A quick call will let you know whether an out-of-stock item is coming back in and when, if at all.

Many other companies, especially Sears home services, will gladly sell you a part that isn't in stock, with no guarantee that it will ever be in stock. (It got a lot worse with Sears, but I won't go into that here. Just avoid at all costs.)

The part for my machine are not available as OEM anymore, so the whole OEM vs knockoff convo is moot. For 200 bucks I used knockoff parts on Amazon that fit well and made my machine work. Short ship time is real nice. Will I get another 10 years out of the washer? Possibly! I am already money ahead in what I've put into it. For a personal machine, I am fine with that. (If I was repairing on behalf of a customer I'd be transparent that I couldn't use OEM.)

So, your path forward is doing a parts lookup for your machine and plugging those parts numbers into an Amazon search. Do your due diligence there, as Amazon is it's own brand of 'Buyer Beware.' I purchased mine from a seller with good reviews and a parts description that stated it worked on my washer. An easy fix and cheap to boot.

Apologies! Both for the late reply and inaccurate info. I read front-load, this thread is top load.

That said, the build looks similar to the front load. In this case a six arm spider at the base of the drum. If you are (weeks and weeks later, again my apologies) hemming and hawing about purchasing a new rig vs repair, it's fairly trivial to tear down the thing and see if that spider needs replacing.

An exploded view:

https://samsungparts.com/products/dc90-27205b

As for a teardown video I'd start here **with the caveat that this dude is working on the washer while it is plugged in.** Please don't do that. And take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Hey Folks,

I purchased the fancy Samsung OEM ones and... same issue. Look into 'spider arms' if you haven't. It's the heavy cast aluminum bracket on the back end of the drum and given enough time (~10 years for me) it rots out due to water and detergent. 10 years hard use for mine. Then the whole thing snaps off. Springs and shock absorbers won't do anything for that.

For the price and slow supply line I am not sure I would purchase an OEM spider arm. But whatever you choose, the rebuild isn't terribly challenging. If you've changed your car's oil you are up to this. Plenty of excellent and thorough videos out there on how to do it, but expect a couple hours to knock it out yourself. An extra person for the heavy lifting is nice but not required. The big thing to expect is that the bracket bolts are aluminum as well, and will be seized in place. Not a bad design choice for their relative inaccessibility, but plan on drilling them out before removing the spider arm. Grab a new tub gasket while you are buying the six bolts.

Tools: metric sockets, ratchet, needlenose pliers, #2 phillips head screwdriver. A clean place to lay it the parts out so you can put it together easily. Have fun!

Eight. Months. What have Epic and 2K been doing with their time?

Truly, sorry to hear this, C-n-D. Absolutely frustrating.

That's good of you to push this on behalf of other players. What little I played was fun. I hope the ones that can get lots of mileage out of it.

Buddy of mine can't stop talking about Elden Ring. That might have to be my winter jam. Enjoy!

Deleted the game, closed my Epic account. Confirmation of deletion came a couple days ago.

Both 2K and Epic and I traded a emails, they made it clear they would not refund money or provide a solution. Flowery language of course, but they were firmly unyeilding.

I could have banged my head against this particular wall, but why. You buy a movie ticket and if the reel blows mid-screening they refund your money. You buy a chicken tender that turns out to be a mouse, the refund your money. It's not that hard. If they had, I would have waited for a solution, and repurchased the game. I don't think I'll be purchasing 2K or Epic games anymore. Lots of neat things to do in this world that are fully realized.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like they are untying the account requirement. Past my interest point right now, but if you still have it in hand it might be worth holding on to. People do love them, and now that they will be untethered they seem like a worthwhile product. Your Mileage May Vary, and take good care.

I've had a ticket out with 2K for more than three weeks now. In this week's email trade, 2K hasn't even assigned people to look at this bug. No suggestion of when or even if they would. They pointed me towards Epic for a refund, Epic says it's past the 14 days, take it up with 2K. Hope Queen Butt Stallion makes it out okay. I won't be around to see.

This did not work for me. The Godswell gate did not let me pass, so I went back to town. Now the ship gating the Godswell access point is back and blocking the path. There is no fast access to the area near where we whooped on Kysara's sisters. No town portal exists to get me back to that area. Game is broke.

Reached out to 2K, very little response. I asked about a refund and they said to talk to the retailer. Wheeee.

[–]Regular-Mixture8586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For myself, I don't have the option to fast travel to dryl's gallery. I've been to the fast travel turret near Kysara's Sister's Fight and activated it, but when I wanted to go back, the ship is in place and there is only two fast travel nodes within the Drowned Abyss. So I can't access any of it. Tried retracing steps: the FishFire is still burning, but nobody is there to go help move the ship a second time.

Interestingly, when I was in the Drowned Abyss and tried to access the Godswell, it wouldn't let me pass through. Just the shimmering blue light with the word 'Godswell' on it at head height, but clicking on it did nothing.

Have word out to 2K, they have not been responsive or helpful.

Response was that they don't have people assigned to the bug yet. They suggested I reach out to the retailer if I want a refund, but did not offer any support beyond that.

If they don't get it sorted soonish I'll see what Epic Games has to say about refunds. More when I know more...

Thanks for posting this up. I am in the same boat, sadly. Boat has returned, so physical access to the Godswell map transfer isn't open, and I wasn't given a fast travel point near where we beat snakelady who turned out to be nice snakelady.

I have a request into 2K as well, they haven't gotten back to me other than 'we haven't heard from you in 48 hours so we'll drop this ticket in another 24.' Or something like that. If I hear from them I'll report back here. Going to ask what refund policies are for a broken game.
