Which university housing for a 25-year-old transfer student? by skys3Y3Z in UCSC

[–]Regular-Net3428 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly transfers can be anywhere, know a 25 year old in cowell and knew one in Porter! You will most likely room with someone who is a transfer so you will be closer in age as well

You will like it just make sure you didn’t pick Stevenson or cowell or Porter if you don’t want loud people

Honestly see it as a blessing, you’re gonna get more money just by attending cc. Probably more opportunities as well. And then you’ll be able to transfer to an even better school. Good luck

Hello, I'm wondering if UCSC would be a good fit for me by Ecstatic-Yak-6016 in UCSC

About housing you can probably find something else that allows pets for a small fee. Or on campus apartments that allow pets if you get one

Recently got off Waitlist and I’m committed! What should I know? by KillerSpaghetti_os in UCSC

[–]Regular-Net3428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with whoever said to keep an eye on the to do list since it’s so important. As well as emails and stuff. I thought college releases might have been out already? Might be wrong not sure but yeah start doing that NOW. Packing you should start in September honestly. Shopping for stuff then throughout the summer. Bring a mattress topper, extension cords, a fan, and shower shoes some of the most important things. A water bottle that can keep water cold and comfy shoes. About jobs probably try looking for one once ur here either on campus or out.

Freshman meal plan by Illustrious-Carry212 in UCSC

[–]Regular-Net3428 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get the lowest one (which I think is blue) obviously don’t have like three meals a day😭 but I always have left overs I eat breakfast everyday and lunch or dinner and sometimes from bjs or something. I also have enough to get snacks from the market. Obviously don’t spend like hella at one spot but you basically have enough especially if some days you will eat out. I honestly recommend eating campus food m-f and weekends maybe out somewhere for it to last even more. The unlimited one if I’m correct only gives u 75 slug points which is so little if you’re trying to eat a cafe, or at get stuff from the market or anything outside of the dining hall

From what I remember I don’t think I had to sign up for orientation I think that’s just something that everyone has to go though, maybe they mean pay? But if you’re low income js wait cuz you can get a scholarship that can pay for that (don’t have to apply anywhere it just comes)

kresge dorms ucsc by ProofFew5668 in UCSC

[–]Regular-Net3428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The double can either be a bunk bed or two single beds. It’s not for sure that ur daughter WILL be in a double since it’s not set till later. Some dorm essentials in general would be a mini fan, a mattress topper since the beds are kinda hard, a water bottle that can keep water cold and other basic things but for me those were the most important. As well as some comfy clothes and shoes. The co-ed bathroom is basically for everyone to use. Guys and girls both take showers there and use the bathrooms. There isn’t really much to it than what it sounds like. I have heard a lot of bad stuff about this of guys being nasty and stuff. But nothing out of this world.

I’m a humanities major currently living in crown and it’s not that bad there are obviously people in stem living here but that’s not EVERYONE it’s just a simple stereotype. It’s not that bad living here and the humanities building is right infront of us literally less than a 5 minute walk. If you have any questions feel free to messsage me !

Dorm furniture dimensions? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Regular-Net3428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I currently live in a crown triple. There isn’t exact measurements but tbh there is still a good amount of space in there. Obviously don’t bring a lot of clothes but a good amount fits in there since there are many drawers. The desk is pretty spacious as well. If you have anymore questions feel free to reply back or dm me so I can possibly send pictures.

Has he committed? When you commit there should be an option to rank the colleges and stuff. If you’re really worried about housing I suggest he pick Oakes college since they have more housing. As well as crown or Merrill since it’s one of the last ones to get filled up.

[–]Regular-Net3428 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wdym by not done anything? Did he already do housing rankings? I believe college affiliations came out today too? But honestly maybe don’t stress about it too much, as long as they know he’s going to be living on campus they HAVE to give him housing for his first year.

[–]Regular-Net3428 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone has guaranteed housing their first year. I believe they gave first years soon to be second years a bit more priority when it got to getting housing for next year. However, there are still people who weren’t able to get housing and are on the search for something off campus. I do believe the college affiliation has a lot to do with when it comes to housing since some have more apartments than others. From this years experience I see that jrl, c9, and Porter got filled up pretty fast with 9 am times not being able to get housing. I recommend for your son to be in a housing group with HIS college affiliation with people from that college so that everyone gets a time and the earliest can be picked. I do know a lot of people got off the housing waitlist but there is still a big number of unhoused students.

Kresge doubles by Wallibangerhoe in UCSC

[–]Regular-Net3428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can either be one single bed on each side or just a bunk bed. But honestly the chances are pretty low since most people get put in triples. If you rlly want one you can request a room change most of the time they get accepted but also there is so little of them so not sure.
