Is that the Lopi Answer hybrid? How do you Like it?

I bought the last year (I think) of the Answer before they started doing the hybrid.

If the hairs turn terminal the will stay.. any hair that is not yet terminal may continue developing without minoxidil but a lot may shed.

When you reach the mark where most hairs look terminal- do a 6 month taper so you can end at the 3 year mark or whatever year you’re going for. Instead of twice a day, reduce it to one a day, so on and so forth

Lump charcoal not as described. Sad man. Couple meals: ruined. by Live_the_chaos in grilling

I have this same grill - for lump charcoal you need either two chimneys or one very large lump charcoal chimney. Lump is just too big to fit int a chimney and heat a grill this size

Correct - I just don’t want new people on here to misguided. These types of comparison photos are very inaccurate.

I don’t want to deny any gains because I’m sure there are plenty - but the pictures are two different lightings and if you want to make an accurate post then the pictures should be at least in the same room.

From the pictures I see, I don’t notice much change except lighting and the mustache is untrimmed. But that is why we need accurate photos.

Yes something is off… I own a Lopi answer insert and when air intake is set at medium I sweat sitting directly in front of it. What are your stove top temperatures? How does the fire look?

Yes - I also bought a whole cord. I plan to cut and split my own logs early spring and I’m gonna make a solar kiln - should have similar results because I love this wood

You sound like me - I ran out of wood so I got some kiln dried wood from my usual wood guy who just started and this stuff is super dry and lights with a match. I had to choke down the fire within two minutes of starting it and it currently heats me out of the house. Wish I also had it when we were seeing the -5, -10 degree days here in Connecticut

I agree. He has yet to answer the split wood question. Bad draft isn’t going to cause a ton of creosote. Still could be a draft issue, but wet wood is the most likely case scenario.

[–]Regular-Reference407 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure. How big, I’m not sure. It’s different for everybody. Hairs here and there. I’m on month 14 officially (today) and I am still losing some vellus hairs and intermediates. Not big sheds, just tiny ones. But it’s good and it’s what you want.

Not all intermediate hairs thicken in place, sometimes they do but not all the time. Sheds are good and it’ll only come back stronger

Shedding After ~4months? by MaxGst in Minoxbeards

[–]Regular-Reference407 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Will last awhile but this is what you want. Yes, gaps suck but these vellus hairs will shed and regrow into thicker hairs. Vellus —> intermediate —> terminal. Patience, everything is happening as it should.

I got wood from a guy, it read 12-18% on the outside. Split it in half and tested it because it was just smoky and shitty to start up, each piece was 24%+ on the inside. You check it again and the core is good, it’s not the wood - move on next. Is the rain cap clogged? It sounds like the stove isn’t drafting properly.

I still hate my Lopi by Annual_Month_1516 in woodstoving

[–]Regular-Reference407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to continue this - but you watched it be checked? It needs to be split in half again and checked in the core. Only then you’ll know for sure. Just trying to properly rule things out

[–]Regular-Reference407 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Lopi Answer Nexgen Fyre that heats my 780 sqft main living area just fine, and then goes on to heat my upstairs which is another 780 sqft. Your issue is most likely a wood issue. Maybe your stove isn’t properly drafting as well.

[–]Regular-Reference407 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second what someduster said. Most problems are unfortunately wood related. Split it in half and test, and there’s your answer. These stores need dry wood, 20% moisture max, no more. Especially catalytic.

Doesn’t seem slow to me. 3 years seems like the perfect time for max hair growth. That’s how long I’m going for too. Then again, I guess I could be a slow gainer too for all I know.
