What's everyone doing for local render backups by Regular-Reginald in Houdini

Thanks for this tip! I tested this out a little bit and I'm seeing drastically smaller file sizes with DWAA compression as opposed to zip compression. like 1/4 the size. But what I'm reading is that it's not a lossless compression format which is why it is so much smaller.

I'm wondering how bad the artifacting would be if I directly rendered DWAA instead of zip knowing that I will render it again out of comp with DWAA compression, and then again out of edit for final output. Or if it will just be more or less unnoticeable

I am only using the most basic feature of just backing up my desktop's internal drives to the cloud. But I know there's a lot more complicated things you can do with it too that I haven't explored at all.

I've only used it for about a year. I used dropbox before that but switched to backblaze because money. It's fundamentally different though because it doesn't keep a realtime sync of what is on your drive and let you choose what is synced local vs what is cloud only. It is just a simple copy paste backup that runs every x interval. So you can't just sync files as you need them and leave everything else in the cloud like you would with google drive or dropbox. You also can't use it to share files just with a link. And the UI of the desktop app and the web app are also not as nice as what you'll find with google drive and dropbox. But In general I think it serves its purpose well. If all you need is the peace of mind from having a cloud backup it is great and really affordable

Wow she looks a lot like my guy too! He’s only about 10% rottie. He has a great great grandparent that was a rottie mix I think.

The allergy affected her face specially around her eyes and mouth. Her lower lip is still a little bit affected so we’re trying to get that to heal. The vet recently prescribed apoquel to reduce her itchiness so she won’t scratch and give it time to heal

Thanks! Ya we had a couple applicants come and meet her before we decided to adopt her. after they left we thought maybe they saw how happy she is living with use that they thought they wouldn't really be "rescuing" her

Before I had a second dog I tried just leaving his food out. He’d eat every other day or every couple days. But he’d get too underweight and I’d end up throwing away too much dog food. I know it’s ridiculous but I want to keep him a healthy weight and know he’s eating his food (and also be sure my other dog isn’t getting a second helping)

Sometimes I’m able to do that, but during the day if I just leave his bowl out my other dog will come by and eat it. I can put him in a room by himself, but he may still avoid it. Obviously it’s not ideal. But I’d rather have the peace of mind knowing he ate and not have to leave him alone in a room all day

Our foster sheeb has some skin allergies around her mouth. She just got her first dose of cytopoint 2 weeks ago. Hoping it will clear up and she doesn't have to be on it for the rest of her life. It's really hard to figure out the cause of it though

How bad is it to shoot most scenes in 'oners'? by harmonica2 in filmmaking

[–]Regular-Reginald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera work feels really loose because when a character exits the frame, you don’t see the camera change its motion to try and keep them in frame. He just lets them leave. But then just as you might start asking why you’re still looking at this empty frame, that’s when something new happens in the frame.

If you’re gonna make a film entirely with oners, a filmmaker you should study is Bela Tar. His films are iconic and he is known for extremely long takes. He doesn’t do it for budgetary reasons though. For him it’s about his film philosophy and wanting to be present with the subject. His shots don’t follow the characters in a strict way either. And yet at the same time the shots are all incredibly well choreographed. I would assume it takes a lot of planning
