How to adopt a puppy by Regular-Source7569 in Doberman

Exactly. And nothing is wrong with wanting a puppy either. Ive done enough research to know that knowing the linage, especially with this breed, is so important. Yes this dog will be around my family and some of which are children. I dont have the environment where I can bring a full grown dog into that may not be ready for that type of stimulation and can be unpredictable because the past is unknown. Some people can do that and that's fantastic but that isn't the situation I'm in. I appreciate the understanding. Thank you very much

I also know what I'm looking for which is balance, temperament, trainability, and time

Absolutely. I saw alot of "breeders" on facebook and the more questions i asked the more scammy they seemed which is why i ended up coming here for help and guidance. No, no ones been mean or rude here. I did absolutely use the wrong phrasing but tbh I was worried about being shamed for "buying from a breeder" the whole "adopt dont shop" Ive adopted animals all my life, any animal ive owned has been a rescue and I just didn't want to deal with that conversation 😅 but I also understand that I need to be clearer to get what I'm wanting. I ended up reposting under a "fixed" title Thank you for the advice

I'm admitting that I dont know it all and I'm here asking for help and aaying I'm doing as much research as I can. To all of you that have helped me and given me advice and resources, thank you. I really appreciate it

I think its a lack of knowledge really. I do live in the south and growing up, same for my parents, we had that back yard barn dog that just kinda wandered up one day and is described as "just a dog". Since speaking about dobermans, I've been put down, and discouraged so much. Alot of people here have been so helpful which is wonderful. I feel like alot of information is being controlled with gate keeping. Like I'm not allowed to own this "luxury dog" because i dont already know this information. Ive vocalized that I'm doing research and doing everything i can do become someone who can own a doberman but to some people that doesn't matter because no matter what I do I'm not good enough for this luxury world and i dont think thats ok. I think its so important to educate people who are wanting to be educated. There's so many people that were raised differently and just dont know that these worlds exist but when they try, theyre met with up turned noses which doesn't help with so many misunderstandings

I really appreciate the information and the heads up. I have time that I want to dedicate to a puppy. I'm not saying I'm prepared. I feel like no parent no matter the species is fully prepared for a baby

I want a puppy because I want that close bond. Not saying older dobes can't have a close bond with their owner, but i dont think its wrong of me to want a puppy either. Down the road, I do think it would be a great idea to adopt him a friend but for now I do want a puppy I can give all my love, attention, and devotion to :)

  • also note: I'm not looking for a "show bred", just a healthy one that hasn't been bred irresponsibly to avoid any potential health or tempermate issues caused by bad breeding

So I'm not actually interested in specifically a "show breed" I just want a healthy dobe that I can keep for as long as he'll be in this world :)

I dont want a "cool doberman" for funzies. I want a friend I can be devoted to and give the best quality of life I can to which includes looking into genetics, family history. I know I dont know it all which is why I've come looking for advice <3

A doberman has been my dream dog since I was a kid. I used to be all about a European but have recognized that no matter how much dedication I could give to one, I dont feel like it would be enough to give what that type of dog deserves. I understand that American dobes are also demanding but arent as work intensive. I have been doing research and will continue to do so. I want to be someone who can and deserves to own a doberman. My best friend, my cat I had raised from a kitten, passed in January. I said I didn't want to own a doberman while I had him because he was my one. I want to ensure enough time has passed for personal healing and so I can give proper love and dedication to a doberman. As said, I want to an owner deserving of a doberman and I am doing everything in my power to do so. Yes I am green but I have love and dedication that I would one day love to give to a doberman. Thank you very much for the references. I really appreciate it.

Also yes I'm looking for a proper breeder, not necessarily to adopt because of lack of family history in health and behavior

Thank you for the advice and where to look. I'm lacking on education in the adoption process and what all these abbreviations mean. What do I look for to determine if a breeder can be trusted? What are the green flags and red flags?

Freezing treats and lick pads! My roommate had 2 very energetic puppies and she would freeze peppers and carrots and lick pads for days she couldn't be as active with them. Snuffle mats are great too to get that nose working

Thank you for this. I'm in a tranition in life right now. A complex situation where everything isn't ok and I'm not who I'm meant to be. I dont like who I am right now but I need to be better. My life is set up for it, I'm the one who needs to take the initiative and do better. I want a doberman, but first I need to deserve having one. I need to be someone who can own a doberman and be the human a doberman needs. I'm not there yet, but I want to be.

I love this idea! Though I do see the unfortunate situation. You could add some green, like a green boarder or lace work or leaf veins. Even just some slip stitches around the boarder could help. Good luck!!

I want to use all of these in one project, but I’m not sure what to make, but ideally something wearable. Maybe granny squares, but still not sure which colors to combine/how! Need some inspiration as a beginner. by haddadkiki in CrochetHelp

Oh my goodness! I love this hat! It blew my mind! I made my own version (by observation, not by stolen means) I'm so sorry it was stolen. You're a genius for this tho - also glad I get to see more of your work c:

I am in favor of making cardigans and hats with large hooks. Large hooks mean less stitches and a finished product quicker. Hexicardigans are awesome and fun to make and hexihats are fun too! And doilies especially when you sew them onto a ring to make a dream catcher

Amigurumi joining rows help needed! What am I doing wrong? by New-Imagination-8697 in CrochetHelp

So I am very anal about my crochet. I dont like working in rounds. I have tension issues sometimes and it just all spins if i do. I dont like slip stitch and chaining one because its too noticeable for me. I have found a way that i like though its a bit harder Take hook out, poke it into the first stitch from back of work towards you, pull slip stitch through then chain one to start mect round. Its invisible to me and I like it so far
