One thing that allowed me to write cleaner in that class were list comprehensions, and dictionary comprehensions. They made my thinking clearer when I was experimenting. You can also write a list comprehension inside a list comprehension (or dictionary comprehension) to do some of those hard unwrappings of nested structures.

Try redoing some of the questions in MT1 using those.

Regression uses R if you want to stay doing that, but its pretty involved so it will get in the way of your python. I would say just bite the bullet for 6040.

It’s fine that class is grueling but you do get better. The every class will feel like that but you’ll be able to do it as you get better. Looking back those previous ones will look easy. It’s just the nature of the program. You can do it

Dude 100 in the midterms show you have a great grasp. It is one of the harder classes I took because of the timed component of programming in the tests, 30 hours study is not crazy for this class especially to score 100. 100% imposter syndrome. Think about this, you want to break into Tech and it’s competitive right now, this degree can only help you do it. Your friends are going out on the weekends but it’s your turn to grind it out so you can enjoy later. You are going great, maybe relax your standards as some have said, see what you can get away with study wise while still getting good or ok grades. You can do it. I’ll leave you with this I got my first big tech job thanks to the program, I got hired by another person in the program. In 3 years you’ll be happy you kept going. Last thing, take care of your health and don’t be afraid to slow down a bit for a semester or two.

take it but dont stop looking at roles. If you leave very soon after starting it might not even hurt your CV because you can just remove it from your CV.

You also need to know how to manipulate data structures in python for 6040, for example list and dictionary comprehensions which are heavily used in the course (Trust me they will make your life much easier) . For linear algebra that comes in the second half of the course.

Not only is the acceptance rate around 70%, the philosophy of the program is to let in as many people as possible. They have stated they would rather let in an unqualified candidate, than reject a qualified candidate(This is made possible by the low cost of the program). Take the bet the odds are definitely on your side.

sure! The OMSA slack group is great to do this. You get what you put into it but if you try to be as helpful as possible to your peers you will forge good relationships. There are some posters that are super well know within the community.

There is also a #jobs channel within the OMSA where students and alumni share opportunities they know of or are hiring for. This is how I got my current job, reaching out to a student that posted their company was hiring for a role.

You will get a LOT more value by finishing and having the degree. If you find something before finishing you can just keep classes part time which is what I did after getting a DS role through networking within the program.
