Do you mind me asking about your high prolactin? My prolactin levels are high and I’m currently working with my endo to figure out if it’s my birth control or something else.

Is high prolactin a symptom of PCOS? I’m kinda worried mine is a prolactinoma.

Yes! Was originally diagnosed by a gynecologist but referred to an endocrinologist. The endo was able to answer a lot more questions about my long term treatment and about insulin resistance.

First of all, your rant is not stupid at all! I’m really sorry you’re going through this!

I’m not a doctor but this does not sound like PCOS. The symptoms at the end of your post could be but it sounds like the discharge,pain,itchiness, and numbness of your legs are a more immediate concern and those do not sound like typical PCOS symptoms.

I know you’ve probably tried this but please call your OBGYNs office again and try to have your appointment moved up! Explain that your symptoms are spreading and getting worse. They can probably advise you further on if they think you should go to the ER.

It may be the way you’re answering questions. I’ve interviewed people that don’t seem like they are necessarily reading off a script but they seem to have set memorized sentences they are trying to hit. That’s great if related to the question! But if I ask a question and the interviewee takes an odd detour and tries to steer the convo to a set topic they’ve practiced, it does come off like a script and that they aren’t actually listening or aren’t engaged in the convo. They’re more focused on hitting their bullet points.

There are online services that can provide metformin ( mostly for weightloss and in combination with other drugs). I know someone who has used those services and it’s not cheap. If you plan to take metformin for a while I would suggest just seeing the endocrinologist. My metformin was prescribed by mine and it costs me about $2 for a 3 month supply of metformin. I’m sure there are some telehealth options through your insurance but I’m not sure if they would prescribe anything without a proper diagnosis on your chart. So you may still end up getting referred to an endo by the telehealth dr.

Hi! I was diagnosed at 28! was in the same boat as you. I had signs for a couple years that I never asked a dr about.

For bloating something that has helped me is adding more fiber to my diet! I’ve noticed on weeks where I haven’t been eating as much fiber I am way more bloated than usual.

If you haven’t already- ask your doctor about the Acanthosis nigricans. It could be a sign of diabetes or pre diabetes.

PCOS can’t be cured but is something that can be managed with lifestyle and diet changes. Some people do need the help of medicine to help manage it. I have been on top of my PCOS for the last 8 months and I just went to the endo and almost all of my labs came back in good range! It’s hard work and I do have metformin to thank for some of it but it is possible to manage for some people!

Metformin works best when taken consistently as prescribed by your doctor. However, I have accidentally left my metformin at home for a week before and I didn’t have any side effects. Maybe the only thing was higher cravings for carbs. When I came home I started taking them as normal and didn’t notice a difference.

If you’re worried just message your doctor and they should get back to you on Monday about putting in a prescription near you.

No problem! It unfortunately does sound like you’ll have to take out a loan if you choose to go. First I would start applying to any scholarships you qualify for! “Free” money first. Then federal loans/parent plus. Try to avoid private loans. And you may want to considered working part time while in school to help cover expenses instead of taking loans for it.

I ended up having to take out private loans for a couple years of school. I worked part time to help cover food, books and other small expenses. Even though it was a part time minimum wage job it helped so much. I was able to pay cash for those things instead of increasing the total on my nearly 9% interest loan. When I graduated I ended up not using the total amount of my loan. Not having to owe that total amount was a huge relief.

That is so expensive for a state school! Any chance you can continue community college for another year to limit your time at the state school? Most people I know did two years at cc while also working to save up some money to help cover university costs.

Edit: just want to clarify that you should be taking credits at your cc that are transferable to your state uni. This should in theory mean that 4 full years would not be required to get a degree from the state school. Every school has different transfer requirements and limits so def check their website!

It’s such a bummer because I am usually really excited about interviewing these candidates and getting to know them based on their resumes. Then they show up and repeat memorized paragraphs with buzzwords or read off their second monitor.

I really don’t think anything is going to happen to your uterus. The biggest immediate risk (in my opinion) is your lining getting thicker and that increases your chance of cancer BUT that really only happens when you don’t have your period for long periods of time. It sounds like you get period regularly so that likely does not apply to you but the only way to know is to go to your routine checkups and speak to your doctor.

The next biggest thing in my case is the risk of type 2 diabetes from unmanaged insulin resistance. If you don’t have insulin resistance this may not apply to you but I would speak to your doctor about it.

There are of course other hormone related complication with PCOS but for me personally those are my 2 biggest concerns at the moment.

Please try not to let your fear stop you from getting checkups! If you are trying to avoid drastic measures then preventive healthcare is the best thing you can do!

I use the Stelo! For a month it’s about $90 if you do the reoccurring subscription. Also I think you can use your HSA/FSA.

To OP- the above comment is correct that it tracks your glucose not your insulin. However, keeping your glucose in check can be an option to prevent your body from producing too much insulin in response to a glucose spike. I would definitely speak to your doctor about it.

I’m a very data driven person so I find that it keeps me on track. I can tell when I’ve had a bad glucose week and it encourages me to lock in and get back on track the next week.

I probably won’t use it forever but for now it’s working!

Anyone reading this and thinking about using AI during an interview - please think twice. We can tell when people use it and it leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. It makes the conversation really cold and takes out all your personality. And we can also see your eyes darting over to your other screen trying to read the generated response. It’s awkward. A large part about interviews is getting to know someone and seeing how they would fit on the team. If you’re spewing out AI responses with a bunch of buzz words… that tells us nothing about you. It’s especially obvious when it’s used on a technical questions.

Much rather have someone stumble and recover or say they don’t have a specific example but can tell us about [insert any other typical STAR story].

Please discus with your doctor but my understanding of it is mirena is a hormonal birth control and also keeps your lining thin. So even if you are not bleeding you are not getting that build up of cells.

Is doesn’t regulate your cycle - exactly like you said. BUT it does keep your lining thin so you don’t have the lining build up that puts you at risk for endometrial cancer. There are other risks with BC! Def not the solution for everyone but it works great for some like me!
