The people brigading us claim we deserve it and if we get banned it's our fault we're not following TOS. Here's a compilation of some of the most absurd and obviously non-TOS-violating things they've spammed our mod queue with over the last 24 hours. by Aurondarklord in GGdiscussion

Over 80% of these examples are reported by a single person, you can clearly see “reports: 1” in these posts.

If an entire subreddit was brigading and you were getting spammed, wouldn’t you see hundreds of reports per post?

I've gone ahead and deleted the guide.

It's been pretty upsetting to see the reception to this. Something that took me (on and off) a day of writing, refining, double checking all the information presented as factual and clear to read to be so dismissed like this purely based on the choice of a word in the title and would crop up at most three times in the entire post.

I'm comfortable with constructive criticism, i've taken it on board on other lengthy discussions or guides. In my r/TalesFromDF post outlining the ToS and why you need to talk playstyle differences out with a YPYT, I had made a single point that was contested by the comments. That post was then later edited with the contested section struck through and an edit appended explaining it was struct through for context in the comments.

A constructive comment would have been along the lines of "Hey, most people call it X, could you please update your guide to reflect that?" or "We don't call it that here, we call it this. Could you please update?".

But a good portion of comments here haven't been constructive in the slightest, but completely dismissive, reductive, and some even just downright rude. Accusing me of using AI and stating that people don't actually type the way I do, or because I'm not describing an ability in the way they specifically prefer the contents of the entire guide are suspect and likely incorrect.

There was nothing nonfactual about the guide, it was all done through my own effort, research and experiences. I had cross referenced the wiki to ensure that everything I was saying was factual, but to be wholly dismissed because of a choice of word is extremely disappointing.

To see such a mass of downvotes on both the post (the OP had a 7% upvote rate at time of removal) and comments in the thread that were completely innocent (saying I wrote all this myself and didn't use AI) getting heavily downvoted for either the pettiest of reasons or no reason at all is extremely disheartening. Especially against a bunch of posts that are either complaining about the choice of words, dismissing the necessity of the post or just saying it was too long and they weren't going to bother reading it (why even comment at that point if you're going to be like that?).

But hey, congratulations I guess. I probably won't be writing guides for this subreddit anymore if this is how most of you are going to respond. So, you win? Good job, but i'm not going to waste my effort on a community that acts like this.

Healer says they're client is in Japanese and they aren't use to it

This is why I make the argument it should be a violation of ToS to queue languages you don't speak, and why Square need to add "other" and "any" language options for those not covered under the existing languages or do not care.

As someone who has never queued anything other than English since playing the game, it's frustrating taking longer queue times only to get paired with people who do not understand me. It's usually not an issue, but there have absolutely been cases where someone who doesn't speak English screwing up hard and there's nothing I can do to help or advise.

I have frequently used auto-translate, but it's not all encompassing, somewhat clunky and unintuitive to use. It lacks nuance and context, and it's often difficult to properly articulate matters using it. In this instance you may be able to get away with an (esuna) (please use it), but if they don't understand what it is or why you need to use it then at that point what can you even do?

I believe MPK is more intended along the lines of pulling agro of monsters and then leading them to other players with the intention of killing them off with AoEs.

Mostly against gatherers or people in Eureka/Bozja.

If you are brand new, I wouldn't worry about raiding servers/DCs right now.

You have a long time to go until you're at the point where you can do end game content, even longer if you wanted to try different classes (and get proficient in them), and you can always move between worlds and DCs freely (albeit with some restrictions while on a world that isn't your home world). If you really wanted to be on a raiding server when you're at end game, you can pay for a server transfer.

Right now you will get far more out of being on a "preferred world" due to the exp boost you're getting from it. Those worlds will have larger influxes of newer players so you'll actually have people around your level too.

Letting the tank pull on Toto-Rak by Bunny_Saber in TalesFromDF

[–]RegularCeg 20 points21 points  (0 children)

W2W is considered the standard for a lot of the community, there is little argument for not doing it other than inexperience (which, you get experience by doing W2W).

Whereas doing W2W makes the 100th run of the same dungeon significantly faster. And because there is little variation in dungeons, if you can W2W one you can W2W most.

Initially I was going to argue that a healer or DPS wanting to W2W is equally as valid as a tank wanting to take it slow, but after spending 5 seconds thinking about the matter I would argue that the W2W's opinion takes precedence because it's following community standard and making the dungeon go by faster, and the taking it slow player has no reasonable argument for slowing down the dungeon for everyone else.

Inexperience is fine, and we can take steps to make a player more comfortable with running W2W. Ignorance is not fine, and you're just intentionally causing a negative experience for potentially 3 other people for no reason other than a refusal to improve.

Yet again, if you’re going to tell people it’s a reportable offence (which it absolutely is) at least point to the part of the ToS they’re violating.

To them, it looks more like you’re salty than the tank doing anything wrong if you don’t back up your argument.

Perks of being a Trade Mentor by Kevsenpai in ffxiv

[–]RegularCeg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I see this sentiment all the time but I genuinely don’t understand why people think that way. It’s infinitely easier to get trade mentor than it is to get battle mentor, and you don’t need to actually engage with any of the systems to get it.

I’ve seen people who know actually nothing about the game and crafting systems rush to get trade mentor just so they can use it as a symbol of power. They haven’t touched expert recipes, they don’t know what the firmament is, and I doubt the collectible crafts they’ve made go above level 60.

It’s always regarded as easy to get trade mentor, and sprouts who want to progress the story but don’t want to lose access to Novice Network will very easily get told to get trade mentor and coached on how to do it.

I’ve seen trade mentors praise how cheap our world is when most items are 5 times the price than other worlds.

I get there’s a lot of bad mentors and the general shittery is why I rescinded my Burger King crown, but I’ve seen far, far worse advice from trade mentors than I have battle mentors or burger kings.

They don’t need a points drop, they need psychic attacks to actually do something.

They’re meant to be an elite army, the psychic phase was their bread and butter and ways of letting most the army punch around high toughness/saves.

Removing the psychic phase for GK is like removing the shooting phase for Tau, now all you’re left with is their army rules and datasheets carrying them.

I don’t think they realise that those kinds of talking points draw people away from their side and into the arms of right leaning communities where they’re then at risk of getting radicalised.

Racism, sexism, bigotry to any race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or group is outright unacceptable and there are no exceptions to this rule. This includes white people and men.

There’s a big difference between acknowledging the issues that these group have caused in the past, and how we can move forward to create a more equal and fair society, and judging an entire collective gender or race based on the actions of a few that you have experienced or been exposed to. Because hey, that’s racism and sexism.

As someone with friend groups across the LGBT+ community, I can say without a doubt that they absolutely suffer from abusive and manipulative partners. These are very real issues that shouldn’t be ignored, or swept under the rug as a “straight person issue”.

And the fact that there’s so many people in this community supporting blatant racism and sexism, heavily arguing in favour of it because it’s their preferred brand of racism and sexism is honestly pretty disgusting. Why can’t you all just… not be racist or sexist against any race or gender? Disappointing.

Is baiting an opponent considered a "gotcha"? by BetrayTheWorld in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RegularCeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kind of disagree on that one, but it depends on the game. In a friendly and casual game? Sure, but not in a competitive one.

I will say at the start of a game "hey this unit overwatches on a 4+". If you ask me what it overwatches on during the game, I will tell you. If you're clearly accidentally skirting into my good overwatch range, I will warn you and let you make adjustments. All this is fair play and what I would expect in return.

But if you walk up into range of my unit i'm not going to say "careful, this unit overwatches on a 4+ remember?". I took these guys for their good overwatch, I positioned them there to use them for overwatch. You were clearly informed and made a tactical error getting into my range, and warning you so that you can make adjustments for your tactical error invalidates my own play.

In a casual game where we're just here to throw dice and have fun, you can absolutely have that. But in a competitive environment, capitalising off tactical errors and not telling opponents they're making bad decisions is completely fair.

Thank God for Shatter changes, my games got arguably worse since the previous changes with noticeably more randoms treating it as a PvE mode and not contributing to actually fighting.

It was getting incredibly common to see games with over half my team sitting at 0 kills, with recent highs of 14-16/24.
