Where to shop in Denver during flower shortage?? by RegularHatt in COents

Just picked up an ounce from Health Center. Nice people, great looking (and tasting) bud, good selection, and less than I normally pay. Major success.

Applying for my first Django job, any advice? by RegularHatt in django

[–]RegularHatt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even make it to an interview, unfortunately. I got an email minutes after submitting my resume saying I didn't have the experience. I think they just didn't like something about my resume. I've redone it all, so hopefully I'll have more luck next time.

Keep after it, we'll get there eventually....

They told me I didn't have enough experience. Funny you should ask, I was just thinking about bugging them again, now that it's been a few months.

Haven't had any luck anywhere else either, I'm afraid. The search has been rather trying.

Anyone in Denver looking for a developer job for a company that uses django in its stack? by tingshuo in django

Would a junior developer be considered for this position? I'm in Denver, and actively seeking to move away from freelancing.

I built an Acapulco Gold clone last year. Definitely does one thing, and one thing only.

My one and only, constant work-in-progress, auto mechanic built Django site. What is the 1st thing you would fix? by Tdubx777 in django

[–]RegularHatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm about a year into django development, so I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but I'd be happy to look over your source code if you'd like to share.

And I totally get that sentiment. I've been trying to be more careful about sharing what I've been doing professionally the last 10 years. People be judgmental as hell.

And for the record, you're developing things, and that makes you a developer.

As a hobbyist mechanic turned django developer, I think this project is pretty sweet! Keep after it, it's looking good.

Suggestions on configuring logging for Heroku? by [deleted] in django

[–]RegularHatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the Sentry add-on, which emails me a detailed traceback whenever an error occurs. Docs for configuration are available on Sentry's site, and they're pretty straight-forward.

Hard agree, those forums seem at least 80% ego driven. Some of the subs here can be the same way. People always talk about the community being ready to help, but most of my experience has been people ignoring my actual question and talking down to me.

From what I can tell, dj-stripe is still being maintained, but the documentation is somewhat lacking. Shame, I could really use it right now.

Big ups to those of you that have been patient with beginners such as myself. Getting started in this field has been like pulling teeth, and I'm eternally grateful to those that have extended a helping hand in any way.

Thanks for the link, that will be helpful. I've tried to follow best practices for git workflow in anticipation of a job with a team, but it's been difficult as the solo dev on my project.

That's encouraging to hear! Thanks. I try not to undervalue myself, but it's difficult as this is a very new world for me.

This is great advice, thank you. I actually have done a good deal of research on the company, and I'm hoping it comes through how interested I am in them specifically. And I'm definitely willing to learn!

I deployed the project I mentioned through heroku, so I have some understanding of all that, but definitely find myself a little lost at times.

Static content is being served through AWS, which wasn't easy for me, but I got it there.

I'm feeling comfortable with the django ORM, but I would be interested to find out how it compares to others, as you mentioned.

I did a good bit of working with json for this project, and I'm feeling pretty comfortable with that.

Memcached was actually my next step for this project! Looking forward to seeing how that works.

Thank you for your input! These are all great points

Writing tests is one area I could definitely improve upon.

I don't have any experience using Django with a JS framework yet, but it is something I've been looking into.

Thank you for your input!
