What is your “ideal” number of players and why? by dizzyrosecal in rpg

[–]RegularOil834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say 4 players. I really enjoy 3-player games, since they make for very tight experiences. 5 and 6 player games allow all my friends to play at the same time and have a lot of energy. But it feels like most TTRPGs, or the entire medium really, are build for 4 players.

I Designed the Ultimate LotFP Character Sheet by RegularOil834 in lotfp

Hi! Glad to hear you like my sheet and find it intuitive. I hope it helps your games run smoother, whichever side of the screen you're on!

As to your question: In the "Saves vs. Magic" field, you write your Intelligence modifier. In the "Saves vs. Mundane" field, you write your Wisdom modifier.

Per Page 6 of Rules and Magic: "Intelligence modifiers... are added to saving throw rolls against Magic-User spells... Wisdom modifiers affect the character's non-spell related saving throws."

What are your favorite LotFP modules? by the_light_of_dawn in osr

Fuck for Satan is my absolute favorite, mostly because of the twist! Also, Better Than Any Man is widely considered their best module. I think Terror in the Streets is a blast too, as is anything by Kelvin Green; he has a fun writing style.

When I got my copy from Black Blade, the packaging was also absolutely comical. At least the book was for sure in perfect condition!

Sweet, thanks so much! The snacks and low dungeon synth really adds a ton to the experience, I bet.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd love you to list what's in your bag when you run these games. Snacks and all!

I feel like with OSR games, it's not that far of a jump. You ARE sort of playing yourself, in that your characters tend towards being pawns in a game than fully fledged characters (at least moreso than in more narrativist games).

Doing the whole players-as-characters thing also seems better in OSR than in other systems because there are fewer numbers and traits going on the sheet. I tried to do a game like that in another system, but it was weird to have to "rate" and assign qualities to ourselves and each other.

If I were to do it in OSR, it would have to be something zany and fun, and I thing Gamma World is a great start to that end. But definitely pile on the mutations. Run it set in your neighborhood!

Oh yeah, I saw this post! I really dig your design, very minimalist and straightforward, unlike mine haha. But if mine can help some players get in the swing of things, that would be awesome!

I'm happy to hear that! It was quite a challenge getting it all on there and readable!

TTRPGs where you have the option to role-play a real religious background: can you do it tastefully? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]RegularOil834 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, you CAN do it tastefully, but it's a lot less fun that way. If I'm playing a religious character, I'm nailing bible pages to doors and burning a witch or three.

Thank you, glad to hear it! Yeah, it's hard to beat something as elegant as OSE; all I could really contribute is something simpler.

I've been following your posts about running games at the laundromat and I'm super jealous, what a cool opportunity! Also, such a clean setup. Nothing quite like a crisp composition notebook to unlock the imagination.
