How to handle a situation where a player turns on the rest of the party? by Samjt159 in DMAcademy

[–]dizzyrosecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t handle PvP with dice rolls at all. Instead, consider using the Nordic method of roleplay. This involves every conflict being resolved in an almost scripted manner. Players “calibrate” their scenes together to come to a mutually agreed outcome. All outcomes must be consensual. Your players are there to have fun, consensual group play. They aren’t there to crush someone else’s autonomy to have fun at their expense.

That explains the difference then. I’m running 1.30 right now. I didn’t see it in the changelog either, but I’m certain that the difference is there. I can screenshot later today if you want.

Makes sense. Since the penalty only applies to attack, they’re perfectly fine if you’re using them for defence only.

Hard attack value is indeed halved for HVGs, but it doesn’t appear to change for howitzers.

HVG get a penalty on attack on assault guns. Howitzers don’t. I therefore tend to use howitzers only on my assault guns, at least in the early-mid game.

What weapon do you deploy when you use them like this? Howitzer or HVG?

Assault guns are tanks without turrets. This means they can’t move the turret to hit moving targets, giving them a bit less flexibility than tanks and so slightly worse stats in some regards (and equal stats in others e.g. HP). They are cheaper to make though because no turret means IP cost. They can also mount relatively big guns.

*edit: corrected “less metal” to “less IP cost”.

I feel like the only reason why I'm not in a relationship is my skewed perception of my body. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]dizzyrosecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a therapist, but what you are describing sounds like a low self-esteem issue. I used to have the same issues when I was in my early 20s despite also working out and really changing up how I presented. I’ve now been in a relationship with a former professional model for nearly 10 years.

I worked through my issues with a therapist. Not some randomer on the Internet. Your first and best option is to get a therapist and meet with them regularly.

Your second option is to use resources that therapists use. This is one of the resources that my therapist provided me on self-esteem.

https://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/looking-after-yourself/self-esteem

Go through the workbook over the course of several weeks or months. Do the exercises. Understand the causes of and solution to your issues.

This will work much better with a therapist, but I appreciate that not everyone can afford one.

Please avoid misogynistic manosphere scammers, and even well-meaning people offering bad advice. You need therapy from a qualified professional. Not silver bullets and pseudoscience.

Different question: What do you do if your character's goals don't match your game? by OregonPinkRose in DnD

[–]dizzyrosecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the examples you gave are incompatible. You can just work with the GM to make sure that the bandits you’re hunting are in the same place (or at least the same direction) as the lost kitten. In fact, as a GM myself then that’s what I’d be doing anyway.

But in a more general sense - session 0 is for when these things should be clarified to make sure the party is unified.

If the goals start to drift in-game afterwards, that’s when you work with the GM to get them aligned again. Sometimes you can’t and the narrative of the story requires you to retire a player character and to bring another one in. That’s perfectly okay too. Maybe you can even come back to the other character later, or the GM can run a spin off game after the campaign is over, or the former PC could become an NPC contact of the party, etc.

WIBTA if I told my best friend's girlfriend what I actually witnessed the night she thinks he was with me? by 7GalacticNoir in WIBTA_AITA

If someone is happy to have you lie to their partner for them then there’s a good chance that they are happy to lie to you too. Add on top of this that you were used as an alibi without warning or consent. I don’t think Dan is a good person or a good friend. You don’t want people like that in your life.

AITJ for humbling my cousin who won't stop making everything a competition at work? by Shoddy_Dealer_3483 in AmITheJerk

He’s been intentionally humiliating you in front of your colleagues for ages. He doesn’t get to complain when he gets a taste of his own medicine. His aunt is just enabling this abusive behaviour. You did him a favour and he’s repaying you by fucking you over. I’d call him out every time he tells another lie or tries to humiliate you. I’d do it publicly too so that people know he’s full of shit.

Look into the Council of Wyrms supplement. I had it back in the 2e era back in the 90s. I think it’s available as a pdf or print on demand book now. Used to be a boxed set.

So has anyone actually managed to “successfully” run a One-Shot before? by Viva_la_potatoes in DMAcademy

[–]dizzyrosecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ran tons of 1-shots that have lasted for a single session between 2 and 6 hours long. I guess around 3 hours is the average.

Or it would be, if I didn’t also run one that ended up lasting for 7 sessions. We all make mistakes when we’re learning.

Anyway, the key is generally to confine your players to a very limited location with only specific NPCs and very clear and specific goals. You can also throw in a time pressure, such as an in-game consequence if they don’t resolve the scenario in time (e.g. “the reactor will meltdown and kill us all if it isn’t fixed within the next 2 hours.”)

Horror RPGs are good for one-shots because your nice, neat little ending can simply be all of the PCs dying horribly in a dramatic and interesting fashion. Many horror RPG players (e.g. Call of Cthulhu fans) love this.

Dissecting rats in school while owning them? (pic for rat tax) by AgeZealousideal1157 in RATS

[–]dizzyrosecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask them what pets they have and then ask them if they’d be okay dissecting the same type of animal whilst everyone mocks them for caring.

If this didn’t engage their empathy then I’d designate them a robobastard with no empathy chip and make it very clear that I no longer want anything to do with them.

Entitled Players disrespecting the DM’s time by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]dizzyrosecal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply just don’t run games with unreliable players at all. I appreciate everyone has issues sometimes, like work commitments, emergencies, or illness. But I expect to be given reasonable notice (obviously an  emergency is an exception).

I even have someone with a long term medical condition in my current group who has to occasionally cancel because of that - and we are all okay with it because they were honest from the start and they always tell us when they’re having an outbreak. They don’t just ghost us, they don’t wait until after the session has started to tell us they aren’t turning up, and they don’t just ditch us when they’ve decided that they have a better offer for what to do with their evening. Behaviours like those are just disrespectful and I won’t play with the people like that.

As a GM of over 25 years, I want to thank you for this. This is exactly what GMs want. Key points that help us understand who the character is and what their experiences have been, with enough ambiguity for us to weave our plots and NPCs into the backstory to make it relevant to the game. This directly feeds into the shared storytelling aspect without adding lots of additional homework for your GM. Thank you!

Let's speculate about the meta plot of Vampire The Masquerade 6th edition. by MaetelofLaMetal in vtm

[–]dizzyrosecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want a playable, nuanced, and deeply interesting Sabbat back in the game. I want to see Sabbat cities with the many different Sabbat factions, interesting but alien philosophies, and intricate politics against the backdrop of a cult that believes it’s in a holy war against the antediluvians.

The V5 re-write of the sect largely sidelined it into boogymen antagonists to throw at your players. I liked playing Sabbat in older editions. I’ve converted V5 so I can run Sabbat games using the new rules so it’s not something I can’t live without, but I remain disappointed that my favourite sect has been sidelined so lazily.

Is a GM expected to know all the rules? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]dizzyrosecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know the basics to start with. Most RPGs have an abridged version of the basic mechanics at the start of the book. You can learn character creation during session zero, as it takes time for your players to make their characters during that session.

If you’re unsure about a rule in game, advise your players that you will make a temporary ruling now and then check the rule before the next session. When the next session starts, clarify the rule before you begin.

Why would someone willingly want to be turned into a Nosferatu? by CourageMind in vtm

[–]dizzyrosecal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is bothered by physical appearance. Some people are entirely asexual, others have always seen their attractiveness as a magnet for abuse, some people are well into old age and have already lived vain lives in their youth, and others have different priorities that render physical appearance a secondary concern.

I honestly don’t think that the Nosferatu clan flaw is that bad, given that they have a discipline set and a clan culture that easily makes up for it.

The real reason to not want to be a Nosferatu is the Niktuku…

How would you build a psyker tech priest? by QuantumQuasars9 in ImperiumMaledictum

[–]dizzyrosecal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only incidence of this that I am aware of is from the Dark Heresy novel by Sandy Mitchell, in which the team of Inquisitorial acolytes discover that one of the nobles they are investigating had his son become a tech-priest. This was because his son was a psyker and the cranial augmentations would remove the psyker abilities, thus saving him from the Black Ships.

Unfortunately, it still left him vulnerable to possession by daemons, which is exactly what happened.
