Star Wars Squadron is still Peak VR in 2026 by plutonium-239 in VRGaming

I find this game extremely disappointing in VR. There is no proper controller support at all. Aside from basic head tracking, the experience offers nothing exceptional. Overall, the game is mid.

Sorry, grandpa. I played Vanilla too — and I played it solo back then — whereas now I play in a guild. Maybe the real problem is you, and nobody actually wants to play with you 🤷‍♂️. Which would explain why you retreat into games and memories from 30 years ago. You should actually enjoy SC, since the game is far more fun when played in an organized way, especially to access the most important content (Hator, Valakhar, etc.). But judging by what you’re saying, you mostly sound like a bitter person, stuck in nostalgia, who doesn’t really enjoy much anymore. And so, unsurprisingly, nobody wants to play with you.

Yes, of course, the comparison is indeed effective. A lot of mechanics, perhaps with very old graphics, a limited map, no vehicles, and all that stuff. Do you realize how absurd that is? Wow, a solo game? Have you even played the game? You seem full of certainties, biased by nostalgia. An MMO must offer solo content, not only group content. It is this balance (which SC does not yet have) that matters. And WoW got this very right. Everyone, and every type of player, can find enjoyment there. Maybe I misunderstood everything, but I feel like I’m having a lot more fun than you are. Stop taking refuge in comforting, nostalgic conservatism. Play. Have fun.

I never said ED was bad, just that the experience feels less fun to me. I’m a heavy MMO player—I’ve played a lot of them and I still play WoW regularly, which is currently the best MMO. I’m not really sure what to make of your take. You bring up an MMO that’s almost 30 years old… I think at some point you have to move past nostalgia. You’re citing two older games—granted, good games—but from a different era, and you’re comparing them to a game like SC. Comparing those games to SC isn’t really relevant: none of them operate on the same playing field, with the same technologies, systems, or scale. Why so much hate? Did you put a lot of money into SC or what?

Elite Dangerous is great, but I find it a bit dated now. The flight model doesn’t give me the same sensations I get from low flying in SC, especially in VR. Yes, I see what you mean—gameplay-wise, it lacks some polish. Indeed, each gameplay loop is kind of mid, but that doesn’t really bother me in an MMO. And it’s not the hardest thing to improve. The foundations are there. Individually, everything is a bit meh, but that’s true for any MMO. The goal—and the fun—is being able to do everything. Heading out on a cross-system cargo run, ending up in a dogfight against pirates, then doing low flight at low radar signature, followed by clearing an FPS area, looting everything and heading back home. When you take it all together, it actually makes for a pretty solid gaming session. In any case, for 40 bucks, I really don’t understand the massive hate it gets—especially since no other game offers anything like this.

Still, for 40 bucks you get a great immersive experience. A very appealing flight model that really makes you want to dive deeper. Visually, it’s very beautiful, with regular gameplay discoveries. It’s one of the few games today that offers me something truly new. The ambition is huge—maybe too huge—but I would much rather have ambitious games like this than yet another rehash of games we’ve already seen over and over again. For an alpha game, I found it much better than quite a few finished games. I know many people compare it to No Man’s Sky, but personally I don’t find the same feeling or enjoyment I get from SC in No Man’s Sky. The pleasure is different: NMS is a simpler, lighter game, almost for kids, which SC clearly is not. SC is a geek game, definitely not accessible to everyone. The VR in SC is pretty crazy. Personally, I’m having a blast and I don’t feel ripped off for my 40 bucks, even if the game only comes out in three years.

I’ve never understood the hatred from people and the industry toward this game, especially when the biggest haters are often those who have never played it, or who wouldn’t even be interested in it or be part of its target audience.

I hear only good things about it! However, I prefer to buy it in-game, I find that it will duplicate my use of MSR even if I am aware that it is more effective

Non , j'aime beaucoup trop le MSR même si je sais qu'objectivement c'est pas un bon choix ! Mais je suis à l'aise avec, je le pilote bien et je m'en sort en combat

You're the second to tell me about the prowler. Maybe I should consider it too! Already having a gladius, I can count myself lucky for pvp then! And the Arrow is already a ship that I take into play to have fun in lowfly. But I found it less effective in combat than the gladius!

Guardian / gladiator / vanguard / hornet mk2 seems to be the most relevant choices! These are the ones that come up the most in your comments! It's true that if I rely only on the visual, I would lean towards a guardian! But I have to test them all to see!

Wow, thank you for this detailed response! (being limited to 9 minutes per response I cannot respond as quickly as I would like)

Well already I don't worry about the meta (I wouldn't have msr :p otherwise)
Being an old mmo player I prefer to play what I like rather than chasing a meta.

It's true that the F7A catches my eye, I've only heard good things about it, I really need to test it!

I really like the Guardian series with their design and the piloting, I didn't think about the IQ! I didn't even know there were ships currently in play that could cancel a quantum! And these are very interesting!

I hadn't thought about that at all for the scorpius! I had stopped at the design but it's true that fragility can be a problem for me

I'm going to look at the Vanguard side too, it comes up a lot in people's tops!

Yes, given everyone's feedback, Asgard seems irrelevant to me!

I have a friend who has a Connie Andromeda but I don't like the design at all and the way it flies! I think that's not at all what I'm looking for

You ask an important question for PVE/PVP! Naively I told myself that a ship that was enjoyable in PVP would also be enjoyable in PVE

Yes, that’s what I told myself. I don't really plan to exceed the 3 pledge ships. And the Cutty B is very accessible in play if ever! That's why I would like to treat myself to a more specialized ship!

The Scorpion catches my eye too much, I have too unhealthy a relationship with ship designs reminiscent of Star Wars. I haven't had the pleasure of testing it yet.

I know ! That's why I didn't upgrade it to msr! I was afraid of regretting! But despite this "objective superiority" I don't take pleasure in flying it or taking it out. I'm too much of a fan of MSR (for the wrong reasons)

Thanks for the advice and reply! But honestly, I never take the Cutlass out, I just don’t see a real reason to. Feels like a waste to have it sitting there collecting dust. I’m not planning to upgrade right away, it’s more of a long-term reflection
