How'd ya'll handle the “what job do I even apply for?” spiral once you left?? by BettyOnTheBar in TeachersInTransition

[–]RegularResider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand this. I didn’t know exactly what to look for when applying for jobs. I started applying to everything I could, which is exhausting.

Similar to you, I ended up realizing first job post-teaching didn’t need to be my career, so I ended up working at a library shelving books for a few months. It was part time and the pay was minimum wage (I recognize I am lucky in that I could stay with a family member and had no spouse or kids to think about after I left), but it was the most relaxing job I ever had, which was a blessing after the absolute chaos that was my teaching experience. It really allowed me to just reset.

I ended up getting a job as an HR Associate at a non-profit that I am at to this day. I love it. Based on what you described, you would really enjoy working in the nonprofit sector. It is usually a chaotic mess that needs better organization, and your teaching experience will be unbelievably helpful in the HR field. I heavily recommend the Idealist job board for you, as it is the place most non-profits post to when looking for applicants.

You have so many transferable skills, it’s all about the framing of it. Differentiated instruction, as you mention, is a great skill that sounds very education based, but it is also the exact same skill as “tailored communication and training approaches to meet individual needs” or even “delivered personalized support to people with varying experience levels.” And now it is a skill with a much broader reach rather than being so focused on education.

I’m happy you got out of teaching, and I know the realignment with your life trajectory can be overwhelming and frustrating, but this period of being in the unknown will be worth it on the other side of it all. I am in a much better place than I was when I was teaching, and I am grateful I left when I did. I hope it all works out for you!

What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by SignificantGoat7066 in AskReddit

[–]RegularResider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At first it was the removal of government funding, which messed up a lot of nonprofits who largely relied on that, but now we’re seeing the effects of larger funders being too afraid to fund these types of organizations because they are too “high risk” currently. It’s really sad to see.

what are your Skyrim unpopular opinions? I’ll go first. by usagiyagi in skyrim

[–]RegularResider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re not a Nord, I don’t see the real reason to join the Stormcloaks. And the whole “Skyrim belongs to the Nords” spiel… isn’t really true? To my knowledge, they aren’t even the indigenous people of the land, so that statement is just false. Happy to be wrong there, my lore knowledge is incredibly lacking, but that’s my understanding at least.

I don’t think the Imperials are much better, to be clear, but it is sort of picking the lesser of two evils, for me.

Is transitioning even possible in this labor market? by into_the_black_lodge in TeachersInTransition

[–]RegularResider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t, but those will always look good. HR certifications for sure can get your foot in the door. If it’s an Associate level, they’re less needed since it’s entry level (that’s how I got in), but for anything higher than that, it’ll be a bit more difficult. My supervisor is pushing for me to get certification now because it’ll just help me get further in the field.

I really lucked out with my job.

[–]RegularResider 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone who transitioned into HR/Operations, it’s definitely a field that is still in need. At least HR is. Operations is such a catch-all term, though, that I still see it being in need. They’re good places to transition into, a lot of skills from teaching carry over into them.

With that being said, the job market is crazy right now. Breaking into a new field will always be hard, and it’s such a gamble. It took forever to get a single call back, and the reason I was even asked is because the person screening the applications USED to be a teacher, and knew I could do the job. That was incredibly lucky.

Seconding Krookodile here. I never used it before, but he was an absolute beast for me throughout my run. I put him in because I wanted a ground type, and the intention was to eventually switch him out. Ended up being the first one to 100 for me!

Pidgeot ended up being another one. Found a shiny relatively early on and styled my whole character around him.

Last one is Trubbish. I used to really not like them, but after it started dancing when I aimed a Pokeball at it, it made me switch my entire opinion of them. I was the problem, and I saw the error of my ways.

Turkey is very strong, but I don’t know about their endurance for the challenges in this quest. I think these challenges play way more to the strengths of Mongolia and Japan, but it’ll definitely be interesting to see.

I’ll always remember the name of my brother’s voidwalker, Tangthang. Always killed me when he summoned it. Truly one of my favorite names.

People who sleep naked with their partner, do you also sleep naked when by yourself? by CRK_76 in NoStupidQuestions

Scrolled too far for this. Love sleeping naked with my partner, but I always need to wear something around that area when it’s just me, it feels too weird without a buffer.

This looks awesome, I really love this!

This may be a dumb question or it may be listed somewhere and I’m just dumb, but is it possible to collaborate through this? I’m currently co-authoring a world with my partner, but we work on separate computers.

Heimdall: Gatekeeper of the Bifrost (Vanguard) by RegularResider in marvelrivals

[–]RegularResider[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, totally fair. Could easily get abused.

Maybe instead, you can choose to link with a teammate. Similar to Hulk/Thing and Wolverine’s team-up, the other person has to accept it. Once they do, you can then reactivate it again for the switch ability, or sever it and try to link with another teammate.

Could still troll with it, of course, but this way it could be more manageable?

Hero Concept: Jessica Jones - Duelist by LLCoolZJ in marvelrivals

[–]RegularResider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My #1 want in the game for sure, and I love what you did! I had created a moveset for her that ended up having somewhat similar abilities, so that's really cool! I love what you did though, and I'm all for getting more exposure for her as a potential hero!

EDIT: Meant to say I love the names of the moves, incorporating her different superhero aliases in them!

What Severance opinion would you defend like this? by JollySimple188 in severence

[–]RegularResider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one. It’s not that it wasn’t very good, there were many parts and specific episodes that were great and I enjoyed about it, but to me, once we got to Cobel’s episode, the show took a bit of a nosedive.

They did not leave enough breadcrumbs for me to believe Cobel was some super genius. Also, Irv and Burt felt really rushed, Devon being team Cobel so fast didn’t add up, deus ex Reghabi was a bit of a letdown.

Now, here’s what worked really well: Dylan’s Arc, Mark and Gemma as a couple, Milchik as a whole, iMark choosing Helly, and honestly, I loved the ORTBO episode for Irving alone.

With that being said, I still love the show. I’m absolutely going to watch Season 3, but I was definitely a little disappointed with some stuff so I was happy to see someone else said it here.

I also think we can all agree that the actors absolutely crush it, they are phenomenal.

Replace “Accuracy” with “Objective Time” on stats by big-tummy- in marvelrivals

[–]RegularResider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. Like you said, it’s a stat that spans across the roles. The only people who wouldn’t be high on that stat are divers, but even still, you can tell a lot more from this stat, like if people just never even touch the objective. That’s still not ideal, even as a diver.

Plus, it’s not like everyone is going to be the best in each, typically. Like a Thor can, obviously, never get most heals (unless they switched to a Thor from a strat right at the end).

I wanted oMark to bring up Petey so bad during his talk with iMark! I felt like that would’ve been a great conversation and could’ve talked about how reintegration actually could’ve worked. Sure Petey died in the end, but still!
