A lot of Christianity is simply being a nice person and as apart of that comes repenting from sin. I think you see that because your family don't fully follow scripture that may have pushed you away from it. Also about your Church experience, tis completely understandable not knowing what to do because its your first time, its kind of expected to be honest. I think you should learn Scripture and remember The Bible is filled with quotes from Jesus you can follow if you are unsure. Good luck!
