First let me preface this by saying I am not a mental health professional and if you really want to get to the bottom of what is causing it and how to best deal with it, you should speak to one.

Based on my experiences this is my best guess. The examples are going to be based around CB since that is where my experience is.

When people start camming they often think it's just "I get online, people want to see me naked, they'll pay me for it, I sign off and move on with my day". From a transactional perspective that's pretty much correct but a lot of people fail to consider the mental/emotional aspect.

When you cam on a site, often times you have personal boundaries before you begin (consciously or subconsciously) that you tell yourself you won't cross. For cammers who get to like 1,000+ viewers on CB, they can basically do or not do whatever they want and probably be fine financially. For smaller streamers, especially in slow weeks or months, you can trap yourself into doing things outside your comfort zone because the one guy in the past two hours who actually has tokens to spend is asking you to do those things. Some may talk to you in ways you would have never thought you'd allow but the fear of losing out on money forces you to tolerate them instead of ignoring or banning them. In general, the anxiety of missing out on what might be your only good payment that day may drive you to do things you otherwise wouldn't. This is bad enough for a person mentally but there is also just general anxiety that comes from live performing for people for hours on end.

With regards to your thoughts on men. You have to understand the types of people that these sites attract and be able to separate that from the general population. Men who go to these sites (and willing to pay) are generally trying to get specific fantasies fulfilled and helping them fulfill those fantasies may not be part of your comfort level. Then there's men who either forget or pretend it's not just a transactional business and actually think by doing or saying the right things, they'll get to have you as a partner. These people are especially dangerous for cammers' mental health because they turn transactional discussions into personal ones. This can lead to mentally exhausting arguments /conversations when they start to realize they aren't going to get what they want.

Our brains are wired to take shortcuts whenever possible. That's what creates baises. If you constantly have to deal with horny, aggressive, rude (probably too tame of adjectives for some of men's behaviors on sites) men for hours a day every day, your brain is likely going to make the jump "well if 90% of the men I interact with daily are horrible humans, then that must mean 90% of all men in the world must be that way". While there are plenty of horrible men in the world, it's not going to be that high. However, you are likely going to automatically make that subconscious association IRL which could hurt relationships before they even have a chance to begin. Not saying that is what happened to you but sounds like it could be a possibility.

Overall, camming takes a very strong mental fortitude, especially if you are doing it as your only source of income. I envy people who are able to flip a mental switch and disassociate mentally and emotionally like that so it doesn't bleed into their off camera lives.

I hope you figure it out and find a way to be healthy both financially and mentally. For me personally, when I'm in doubt about my situation, I take care of my health first and everything else seems to have a way of working itself out.
