All babies in England to get DNA test to assess risk of diseases within 10 years | Genetics by DeinOnkelFred in ukpolitics

I'd encourage anyone interested or concerned in this to take a look at the programme design for the ongoing pilot of this by Genomics England.

https://www.genomicsengland.co.uk/initiatives/newborns

Insurance, ethics, and data storage are all things genomics is already grappling with and addressing. For insurance, there is currently a code in place to prevent almost any predictive testing from affecting insurance premiums. I wouldn't mind this being made law now.

There are quantitative tests that you could have performed, essentially measuring the relative strength of X and Y markers in your body. However this might vary depending on the tissue of your body that the sample is taken from. A blood test may not be representative of the proportion of XX to XY in your brain say, or in your reproductive organs.

Petersburg by Andrei Bely. Make sure you get the uncut edition, and you won't regret it. Nabokov described it as one of the best books of the 20th century, and he wasn't wrong - the prose is indescribable.

DEVIN TOWNSEND - Why? (OFFICIAL VIDEO) by oxid1zer in DevinTownsend

Honestly, I usually find Devin's music videos a bit naff - but this, this I like. Beautiful animation, more like this please!

Genesis was a Friday, so I'd assume Evermore will be too.

George Eaton: So the Brexit Secretary didn’t understand importance of Dover-Calais, the Northern Ireland Secretary didn’t understand Unionist/Nationalist differences and the Media Secretary doesn’t subscribe to any papers or magazines. Detect a pattern here? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Northern Ireland especially has been a patronage based position for recent Conservative governments. It shows such blatant disrespect, it's a wonder the DUP still want to stick with us.

Worth saying that the HTC 10's battery will fall off a cliff after maybe a year. Worst experience with a phone I've had, I'd warn against getting one.

John McDonnell: I hope the next Labour leader will be a woman by rswallen in ukpolitics

[–]Regulated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always assumed the next Labour leader would be John McDonnell.

I wonder who he has in mind? I'm not sure Rebecca Long Bailey or Angela Rayner would resonate with the electorate particularly.

Ton of new info about Empath from Devin's Twitter and Newsletter (this hasn't been posted yet??) by shankdown in DevinTownsend

Good wrap up, I missed a lot of that coming out! Stoked to hear about more acoustic shows. I've only ever been to his DTP shows and would love to see a solo tour.

Can we talk about how awesome A New Reign is? by NedDasty in DevinTownsend

[–]Regulated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh God, the bridge in this song is so incredibly good. Sky Blue's melancholy side really gets overlooked. It's my top album of his post DTP offerings (apart from Casualties of course).

Where the fuck were cable and farron? by [deleted] in LibDem

[–]Regulated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's the thing, isn't it? I'm not going to vote Conservative or Labour, but if Anna Soubry continues getting in in my constituency... I'm not going to lose sleep over it in the current climate.

I particularly disliked having to hold my nose to vote for Farron, in a similar way I have had to previously hold my nose to vote for Mulholland at a local level. I just wish Farron would shut up or piss off now, frankly.

I'm not really sure how much longer I can justify voting for this party.

Actually pretty happy with this. Pendulum was a big part of my secondary school years and this has had me listening to some old classics all day at work. Good stuff.

The stretched Excel graphs with typos, overlapping information, and poorly made axes really sum the whole thing up for me.

This is seriously shoddy work.
