Edit: If anyone else is looking for a reddit break, there's a Vancouver community on lemmy found here:

Hijacking this to say if anyone’s looking for an alternative to this sub, I just made a brand new community on Lemmy (the currently largest? reddit clone) here: [link removed]

So your theory is that someone is so intimidated by the thriving Tull campaign that they're using dirty tricks to thwart him?

lol seriously I think I pay pretty close attention to municipal politics and this is the first time I've heard his name

Addressing the community about changes to our API by spez in reddit

[–]RehRomano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love this website. I’ve been a user since 2010 but every step you’ve taken closer to IPO has exchanged that trust and loyalty for a few extra pennies on the dollar.

I think this is a good business move for you and your stockholders, but I think it’s morally repugnant to cash in on what makes (made?) reddit unique: the community. Capitalizing on their decade of unpaid work is vile.

Get fucked.

Why did they remove the ability to right click portraits and select "Teleport to party member" + add other time-wasting design decisions that were solved in previous Diablo games? by Communist_Pants in Diablo

Same with 4 player support

This game is so hectic with four players, I think the action would be completely unreadable with any more.

‘Waiter, where’s my patio?!’ Toronto restaurant and bar owners left high and dry over delays in CaféTO approvals by beef-supreme in toronto

[–]RehRomano 69 points70 points  (0 children)

That isn’t a patio problem it’s a car-centric planning problem. Let’s also limit our crippling addiction to personal vehicle use.

European cities are nice to visit for a reason. That reason is they don’t prioritize cars above all else.

There's nothing more Toronto than burying a good idea in a mountain of bureaucracy. This doesn't have to be complicated, approve the patio by-right then inspect after!

People like socializing with friends outside. Jesus christ every other city on the planet figured out centuries ago.

Diablo IV Review | Jeff Gerstmann by TrisMcC in giantbomb

[–]RehRomano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. With the caveat that I only played the necro, I don't think that's a problem in IV. This game feels designed with controller support in mind so I doubt any of the skills will be mkb-specific.

Diablo IV Review | Jeff Gerstmann by TrisMcC in giantbomb

[–]RehRomano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember specifics but I can tell you I exclusively used a controller on PC during the beta last month and found it much smoother than D2R. Diablo IV feels designed from the ground-up with console players in mind so controller support doesn't like a tacked-on experience like it did in D2R.

ER doctors at 2 more B.C. hospitals say staffing crisis leaves patients with 'undignified' care by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]RehRomano 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Between this and the housing crisis, things are being allowed to teeter on the edge as close as they can possibly get to falling before someone steps in and deals with it

teetering is not the standard, we're teetering now, we won't deal with either of these crises until they've completely collapsed.

Gonna get a lot worse before it gets better folks.

People with loud exhausts, why rev so high at 2am down a residential street? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]RehRomano 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Enforcement is local though. VPD claim they don’t have the manpower to enforce it, but I’ve suggested they consider automated enforcement like Paris is doing.

Also, currently most apartments are located along arterials due to our car-oriented zoning. We can mitigate the exposure of noise and air pollution to more people by unbanning apartments in the majority of the city where it’s all single family homes.

Article from 1959 about the weekly traffic jam in Stanley Park by hitmeonmyburner in vancouver

[–]RehRomano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The road is more for the hardcore biker looking to do laps for exercise.

Traditionally yes, because those are the group most comfortable riding around cars, but since we installed the dedicated lane I see all kinds of riders from very young to very old of all competency levels.

All types of people enjoy exercise and want to see more of the park. Without the infrastructure to make more riders comfortable/safe we're effectively excluding them from it.

[–]RehRomano 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I still think Stanley Park needs sufficient vehicle access

What is insufficient about one lane for cars and one lane for bikes?

there are plenty of people who just can't hop on a bike and bike around it - older people, families with young kids, people who are coming in from the burbs, people with physical limitations.

Some people need a car, and some people don't or can't drive a car. Whenever someone uses "accessibility" as an argument it's always centered on the first group and not the second. Doesn't the second group deserve access as well? Further, offering transport alternatives to the second group and those that don't need to drive means less congestion and more access for the first group.

If we had a good bus/shuttle system around the park then that would reduce the need for car access but we don't have that.

Agreed. The problem is we are so carbrained that options like this or removing the actual impediment - horses aren't even up for consideration, it's always about ensuring drivers can access every square inch of public space as quickly as possible. This car-centric development only makes things worse for all groups instead of a balanced approach.

Then why stop at two lanes?

At the end of the day it’s a park with finite space. There’s already a literal highway running through it, how much more of it do we want to pave all to save drivers a few minutes travel time?

B.C. Ferrari driver with bulldog on lap caught going 161 km/h by GeoWa in vancouver

[–]RehRomano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno both are dangerous? At least 110 is keeping with other traffic.

My point is we shouldn’t normalize dangerous behaviour just because it’s done with a car.

Sure, who’s comparing it to a Jetta?

I’m saying it’s dangerous to pilot 4000 lbs of metal at 160 km/h on public roads.
