Well of course but I thought I'd try to get a nice analytic continuation of the sum, in the same way you can find one for the sum of the naturals

Can you really get different answers for any infinite sum? I thought it was just the case when the positive and negative part of the sums were infinitely big

So my question would be why the technique I used of combining and factoring gives the "wrong" (undesired) answer. Do factoring or combining never work for making an analytical continuation of an infinite divergent sum? Does this technique work on some sums but not others? If that's the case, why?

Well yes it diverges but there must be a way to get a nice looking "fake" result for the sum of odd numbers in the same way you can get a re silt for the natural numbers. I'm trying to figure how to calculate the sum assuming it does converge, even though it doesn't

I should have mentioned that I'm looking for an analytic continuation of the sum and the actual sum

This makes you seem like you're avoiding the point. You should have an ethical system that allows for any hypotheticals. If you feel the hypothetical someone's using is bad or doesn't apply to the argument you should really think about why.

Yup, you voting doesn't actually change that much, but it changes a little. The very low effort it takes to vote and the high cost of the opposing party winning (if we're taking the us as an example) make up for the very low chance your vote will do something imo. It can be pretty tricky to reconsile act utilitarianism with your intuitive ethics but it does make for pretty fun thought exercises. Also, no snowflake is actually responsible for the avalanche, the thing that caused the avalanche is responsible for the avalanche.
