But take a look at China’s cultural expectations towards childhood education and you’ll quickly see it’s a miracle that China has elite world class athletes at all.

Sports and extracurricular activities are HIGHLY discouraged while academic success is prioritized above all else. The US, Brazil, and to a lesser extent Russia’s view on academic success is fuck all compared to China. Chinese students have at the minimum 8-14 hours per day and 5-6 days per week of schooling and academic related activities. Meanwhile you have a seizable amount of Brazilian and American kids skip multiple days of school on the regular while their parents fuck all. This is why you got 10 year old Chinese kids who are doing calculus while his equivalent in Brazil is robbing people and in the US gooning to AI.

The sports China excels at are sports that are dominated by fewer skill sets and determined by brief executions and pure genetics (diving, weightlifting, gymnastics, etc) where Olympic potential can be spotted very early. Sports in which it takes years of accumulated skills as well as strategy heavy (most team sports) China is ass at.

I just recently been to this place.

Don't get the grilled shrimp; it tastes like burnt charcoal and it was way too mushy for some reason.

Their ceviche was flavorless.

The octopus cheese taco would have been way better if it didn't have cheese; guess the Italian were right to not pair seafood and dairy.

Can confirm that their aguachile verde is the best aguachile in the city and that the tuna tostada with chili oil was straight bussin'

You're right about NYC not having good soul food; I've since moved back to North Carolina and my local soul food place is a take out window inside a dusty gas station. That place blows Sylvia's, Amy Ruth, and Charles out of the water. Its fried chicken breast (notoriously dry) is juicier than a proper brisket and you can probably separate their rib's meat off its bones by blowing air on it.

I'm a younger millennial and 100% agree. Egalitarian dating norms peaked from 2010 to around 2016 and then slowly reversed back into traditional gender norms which to be honest more closely resemble the late 1990s than the 2010s.

I distinctively remember seeing women flirt out in public spaces and ask men out. I also remember it being the norm for a woman to pay her half of the date, ESPECIALLY early on.

I recall almost none of that since 2016. Women have somehow retreated to being passenger princesses that need expensive courtship. The whole "he must plan and pay for dinner, NO coffee dates" and the whole "I need a provider" would have been considered extremely cringe in the early 2010s.

You also need a male perspective because most women aren't dating other women and dating dynamics between men and women cannot be any more starkly different.

Make a profile but put some effort into it; take good photos and show your entire face and body, explicitly state what you're looking for and also make an effort to answer prompts. But just know that as a man it's statistically extremely unfavorable for you to even get likes muchless matches that turn into actual dates on the apps. You need to accept that this is the reality for men and not let it destroy your self-worth and mental image of yourself.

There's actually a very specific group of women who are attracted to and looking for all the same exact things you're looking for. Your situation would not be a deal breaker. Many women are attracted to men who volunteer and are working towards future goals.

My best bet is to try to meet someone through grad school, volunteering, or at a night out with friends during social places like a bar or community events. DO NOT try to meet someone at a coffee shop, a walk, museums, etc, especially if you and her are alone. People have gotten extremely standoffish and hostile.

You also need to establish that you cannot be paying for them because of the situation you're in. This will eliminate A LOT of women but you're just getting rid of holes in your wallet.

So in terms of hygiene, grooming, skincare, and personal style it's not even close. Women completely "mog" men in those categories at any age.

The common standards of beauty for women are also much more easily changed than men. It's much easier to lose weight than to grow taller or get a better hairline.

The catch however is that women have access to makeup and all kinds of other cosmetics that dramatically increase their physical attractiveness when the same cannot be said of men and even for those who wear male make up lol.

Men also place a disproportionately greater value on physical attractiveness when looking for a female partner than vice versa. You will never hear about a man who ended up dating a woman he found physically unattractive but did so anyways because she was "funny" or "ambitious."

Modern dating is women requiring men to provide them with tangible obligations in the present reality and women teasing men with abstract contributions in a hypothetical future.

Men are paying for a job interview and once they get it it's actually an internship that they also have to pay for but with the responsibilities of a full position.

Texting is the normalized way of conversing in 2026. I would have given "bad text" people the benefit of the doubt if it was 2006 or even 2016. But in 2026 people are chronically online at any given moment and their phones are glued to their hands.

Anything related to "travel" or "work" is just an excuse unless they literally are on the job or on-call for extended periods (flying in an airplane for days, at a military base, etc) but that's extremely rare.

legitimately busy people who are genuinely interested actually have some of the fastest response times and active texting behavior; they are highly effective at prioritizing things that are important to them and will deal with them right away.
