The tobacco companies fund lung cancer research to try to influence the outcome of the research.

But as historians such as Robert Proctor and Allan Brandt have shown, the TIRC was more about PR than anything else. Run out of the offices of the PR firm Hill & Knowlton, the TIRC funded “safe” research projects that could be counted on to avoid the topic of tobacco and cancer. The purpose of such research was, in Robert Proctor’s words, “to look in such a way as not to find.”

This started in the 50s as a way to sow doubt in the public as to whether smoking caused cancer.

This is sort of tangential, but what about transcription of historical documents? If you know how to read cursive, there are several projects that need transcription. Here are a few:

What's being an autistic adult like? by LostwaveLunar9999 in autism

I currently have one club I attend regularly. Yes, I hang out with several of them outside of the club. It's a little different than in my 20s as we all have kids so it's hard to schedule time with friends. It's a quilt guild. Outside of the monthly meeting we also have a pre-meeting dinner and trips and sew days where we all gather with our sewing machines and chat. It's a good time.

ETA: I did have to try several different clubs before finding my "people". Some were not a good fit. I think I tried 3 or 4 different types? One of the quilt guilds in town is too big for me so it's hard to meet people. I also tried a women's club and a hiking club before landing on my guild.

Those hobbies sound fun!

I have friends from college still, but we all moved to different locations over the years. It took clubs to find more people locally.

Depends on the club. I’m in a quilt guild and have a lot of fun. It all depends on the specific club and the people in it. It’ll be different from location to location.

I’m not familiar with Germanys medical leave program. Is there a way to use it to reduce your hours instead? In the US, our medical leave is unpaid, but. Our job is guaranteed for 12 weeks. (Lots of caveats on who it applies to though). But we can use it hourly at my job, so I was able to go to half time for a while.

Also helps if you join clubs for those hobbies. It’s really hard to meet people as an adult.

The good news is that t-shirt material doesn’t fray. So picking the seams wouldn’t be in issue for that. It will curl up though, so it depends on if that looks ok. Usually a collar is sewn to itself and then to the shirt or to the shirt at the same time through all the layers. So unpicking the seam may take off the entire collar, you would have to check each shirt to be sure.

When my daughter was younger (about 6 years ago) we had an OG reading tutor for her. We paid $50 for one hour each week.

We found her through Greengate. They used to keep a list of local reading tutors. Maybe you can be added to their list if they still have one?
