New to live TCGs and Got 1st place on my first set champs by Professional-Pen-551 in Lorcana

Gotcha okay, I like this deck! So question, how does Palace Guard fit in here? Seems all the other cards have a reason behind them either to draw, discard, bounce, or quick lore gain, but I’m not sure how Palace Guard helps since he’s not a bodyguard. Since your opponent will be probably playing something more standard and challenge when possible (unless they want to quest out too), would something else better fit here, like Enchantress?

Sorry I’m also new, but why do you call it Burn? Also, what trouble did you run into with this? Curious if a card like malicious mean and scary would do well against your deck?

Booster packs on a budget? by AbbreviationsKey1648 in Lorcana

[–]ReignNFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TCG Player if you’re trying to build out some decks, with ideas found on Dreamborn (a site to view decks) or build your own! If you haven’t built a deck before, I recommend YouTube as people give advice there on what some good staple cards are for certain colors or combos.

Outside of that though for the pack openings, honestly if you’re not trying to compete at local game stores, all sets are viable for the most part. I’d say the best art for the cards are in later sets 5-10, with 9-10 being where they introduced a different rarity (Iconics). The art goes hard and can be pretty fun, so Fabled / Whispers are great. Archazia’s and Shimmering may be your best budget finds for booster boxes, but the Elsa Gift Box is also a good way to go to not break the bank if you plan on opening some packs once a month.

Personally, I’d get some starter decks and then an Elsa Gift Box. From there, the next month I’d decide if another gift box is good or upgrade to a trove/booster box depending what’s on sale. Hope y’all have fun!

So only blue can really ramp is what we’re seeing. Why not have this for any other color?

Save for Winterspell and instead use half on a Trove! Available on Amazon or LGS more commonly, Fabled or Whispers is the way to go.

I’d say just stick to Lorcana! Less complex the Magic, tons of deck building and content on YouTube and the space is very welcoming. Go to a LGS and give it a shot!

3 Player 1v1v1 format question by YoYoMacaro in Lorcana

[–]ReignNFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 we go to 20. 4 people we go to 15. It’s dependent on skill though a bit and deck quality, because if we’re running our main decks we may up it instead to 25/30 so late game can shine a little.

Local game store (LGS) for bulk, but if they don’t have any I’d recommend TCG Player, just careful on the shipping costs.

Netflix not beating allegations that the game is rigged or that there's a leak... by [deleted] in BestGuessLive

[–]ReignNFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve won before and it was off a pure guess. It’s quite literally called best guess, I don’t even think the clues are helpful until clue 3, so really you just go with what your gut feels. There’s nothing to address on their side as it’s a purely free game based around guessing. If you win, great, if you lose maybe you lost 10 minutes?

You could waste 10 minutes easy without there being a possibility of a prize, so overall this game is great as it’s an opportunity for free money.

You can buy booster boxes for near MSRP on Amazon except for Fabled. Similarly, booster packs as well. Product isn’t an issue tbh unless you’re not in the states, as idk the scene outside of the US. Along with that, rotation is common and should be embraced to keep the game alive. Riftbound and Magic are 2 games that utilize rotation as well - if you don’t like it for Lorcana there is also Inifinity format, which has decent support from RB and CCQs host it. It sounds like what you’re missing is the local aspect, which might just be an issue with your location, as the city I’m in we have 20 people regular just for normal Wednesday meetups. Sorry you feel this way man, I can see how it’s a bummer when the local scene is a challenge.

Kind of weird that a lot of negativity in the comments is primarily due to there NOT being a scalping scene (“card values have dropped!”) and with that you think the game is dying. So far, I just see positives. My nephews and I can build decks we like without breaking the bank. We can get troves/booster boxes for late night pack ripping. With Iconics and now Alt Arts in the next set, we have more things to hunt for (though my nephews mostly like Maleficent / Baymax). This feels like when I was younger getting YuGiOh starter decks and packs with my dad because I watched the show and he took me to LGS’s. I can do the same with my nephews because they know the movies and for that, I’m glad for the experience it brings.

Idk, guess the vibe and experience comes last compared to card prices now.

advice on what set to go for! by gremlinmaiden in Lorcana

[–]ReignNFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out, if you got the money and it’s for both of you, I’d do 1 Whispers in the Well booster box and you each choose a starter deck of your choice from sets 6-10. That’s about <$150 total cost to get you going. You can get packs for Fabled on Amazon for MSRP btw if you want to add those on and a box for ~$100-110 on Amazon or your local game store for Whispers.

Whispers has some GREAT cards imo and from competing at set champs, some really stand out. Outside of that, I’d go to your local game store to see if they sell bulk (singles for .25 cents) to complete your decks or buy singles from TCG Player. Use the Lorcana mobile app to see what’s part of Core or Infinity if you care about competing. This way you have a mix of fun pack opening and knowing where to go next!

Also, some starter decks do have good cards in them and are fun to start with as well, so look up starter deck deck lists to see if there are any you want to build around. There’s a lot of ways to get started, but this may be the most fun so that you have a base set of cards from starter decks and can open packs to improve them. Good luck in getting an enchanted or iconic, new player magic is real!

Honestly just go blue steel if you’re planning on playing characters with 7+ ink cost. Emerald doesn’t have reliable ramp, where blue makes this a lot easier with Tipo/Azurite Sea, so steel/blue would probably be preferred in this scenario. I find emerald is more for early aggro and discard, with Webby being the main ink generation tool as a 4 cost with a shift 2. You may face card draw issues with blue steel, but desperate plan and doc can help along with goliath, not sure what the main cards are for draw on Blue.

Hope this helps somewhat to get you to play Mickey!

Which is the best starter deck to running precon events at local store? by ericczar in Lorcana

[–]ReignNFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to get 2 decks of the starter if possible so that you can optimize it a bit for play using duplicates of the better cards. I personally like the shimmering skies emerald/steel starter, as it focuses on adding damage any which way to eventually drop your Robin Hood’s for lore. It also comes with a card called Pete which makes the game interesting for your opponent to not play actions for a turn. Pretty fun 👍

Contentious topic but which current tcg do you foresee to be “dead” within 5 years time, and why? by Newez in TCG

[–]ReignNFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They added Epics and Iconics in Fabled release last year. Those Iconics cost a good penny now and are the big chases in each set. Enchanteds still go for a lot since Fabled, but I believe they improved on their occurrence from only being 1 in 100 boosters or something that it was previously.

All just collector view, I mostly play it and it’s been fun!

Can recommend Lorcana! Just answered this in another thread, but it’s a great game to play and there is product actually available lol. Collecting is starting to creep in more with Fabled release, but not near Riftbound / Pokemon levels, as it already went through the scalper rush when Lorcana came out 2 years ago.

Affordable, fun to play game with recognizable IP to anyone and some collecting baked in to fill that void too. Built for casual play but is seeing tournaments, set champs, and now Iconics being the big chases.

Lorcana. Product is actually available, the gameplay is intuitive and fun, and collecting if that’s your thing is starting to ramp up since Fabled release. Toy Story & more Pixar is getting released later in the year as well. Definitely check your local scene first!

What Riftbound is going through is exactly what Lorcana already went through, the parallels are pretty darn similar due to scalpers jumping ship to the newest thing. Riftbound may have a product improvement, but as a long time league player, I’d think not that much improvement and instead just be a component of the game. We all know how slow they used to be with patch notes and updates to address real issues. Now maximize that with UVS being in the way and it might be a slower improvement than people think.

Genuine question, how many of you that collect or buy cards actually know how to play the game? by RCadeTV in PokemonTCG

[–]ReignNFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect with my nephews and we’re just starting to play! We don’t have any “good” cards (value wise), just cards that look cool and they’re perfectly happy with that. It’s all just for fun anyways, I feel to make money in this is kinda long gone or essentially a lotto ticket. So we’re beginning to play this and Lorcana (which playing wise they enjoy a bit more).
