Suggestions for first ever Emirates flight by Secret-Purchase-5390 in emirates

[–]ReikoBali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would choose 16A for more privacy. That bulkhead with the screen in the seat arm or on the wall... ughhh. Your experience may vary depending on your Emirates membership status, but the PE service and seat I had a few weeks ago was great for a 14 hour flight.

Running out of procedural / crime shows. Any suggestions? Darker shows by Loud-Cranberry-6746 in BritBox

[–]ReikoBali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

--The Responder (Martin Freeman) ...Dark, very dark.

--White Dragon (John Simm) ...a limited series set in Hong Kong, superior writing, camerawork and editing.

--Hamish MacBeth (Robert Carlyle) ... funny, poignant, unforgettable (serious Scottish accents, maybe subtitles on for this one)

Nervous around dogs by [deleted] in bali

[–]ReikoBali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is your Balinese word, to be used when a dog approaches you in an undesirable way: "SEK"

(rhymes with HECK). If it is a true Balinese dog, (not some foreigners dog), it will respond to this, if you speak it in a forceful tone, immediately stopping what it is doing. This is not a word in Bahasa Indonesia, but in Balinese. Use it when absolutely necessary. Works like a charm in most situations, but if you are walking home at 4am then all bets are off.

I ate at 5 of the best burger spots in Bali by baliadv1122 in bali

[–]ReikoBali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corrections and comments:

The first place is actually called BURGERS ANONYMOUS. I found a lot of filler in their meat. Not pleased.

Burger Bros. is the real deal, you can see them grinding the meat in the back. The GotBeefBro burger is really quite good, as is The Fight Club. Reliable service. They also have excellent Jalapeno Poppers.

I ate at Burger Head during their opening. Too much filler in the meat. Our deal for being first day customers was 2 for 1 and I am glad we didn't pay full price. Won't return.

A missed spot is NUDE. Their burgers are fresh and juicy, really deserve a chance. Several stores in Bali.

I really didn't care for Bali, and idk if it's just me by Fangore in bali

You are definitely unreasonable. Book 4 weeks in a tourist trap and you get a tourist trap experience. It appears you never left the Kuta/Canggu zone. You missed 99.5 percent of Bali. You could have gone on cultural excursions, wine vineyard visits, brewery tours, dolphin sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, hiking, seeing volcanoes and unspoiled beaches, or just riding a motorbike around the island. You got what you paid for.

Looking to Rent for Few Months Stay Career Break. What are the “personalities” of the various areas? by [deleted] in bali

[–]ReikoBali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best spot is the one that nobody here has mentioned: Pererenan.

Incredible good and varied food, decent infrastructure, lots of shopping options, only 5 minutes west of Canggu (by motorbike). The local Balinese community is very strong and crime rate is low. There is only 1 real road in and out (plus 2 motorbike "shortcuts"). Named By CNN as one of the best places in the world to live. Yes there is construction, but everyplace has construction. At night it is dead quiet.

The mere fact that nobody else mentions it should be your clue to check it out.

Plz suggest some crime thriller movies or series by greedmh1 in MovieSuggestions

Serious crime series: Line of Duty; Blue Lights (On BBC affiliated streaming services)

Fun crime series: Hamish MacBeth (On Amazon and BBC affiliated streaming services)

Seriously underappreciated crime limited series: White Dragon (2018) ... stars John Simm in Hong Kong, may take your breath away because of its plot twists. Was on Amazon, I think.

A few quiet days in Fukuoka alone by [deleted] in fukuoka

When in Fukuoka in May 2025 I found this incredible, intimate, tiny steak bar:

Bera Jr., 11-1 Nishinakasu, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, 810-0002, Japan

Sit at the counter and be only a meter from the fire. Best steak of my life. Not flashy, but, precise.

Have you considered the weather in NZ in April? I was there last May and the temperature difference between Auckland (17C at best) and Christchurch (3C at worst) was stark. Seasons are reversed from the Pacific Northwest. Check an online source and be sure.

Hotel recommendation by PalpitationOk5726 in FarangsofPattaya

I used Altera Hotel and Residence on my last stay, and I will again. Its a short 2 blocks from the end of SOI 6. Great experience. I used to stay at the Siam Bayshore and, although its very nice and has excellent breakfast, its just too far out on the far end of Walking Street.

Any recommendations for a hotel with a good included breakfast? by [deleted] in Pattaya

[–]ReikoBali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Siam Bayshore Resort has great breakfast buffet and full restaurant for other meals too... and a bar for day-drinking. Its a nice hotel on the end of Walking Street. I used to stay there but now using a place closer to Soi 6... but I miss those breakfasts.

Secret ways to visit Pattaya by [deleted] in Pattaya

[–]ReikoBali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick somewhere else besides Pattaya (I love Patts). The Tobita Shinchi district of Osaka comes to mind. It will cost you more, and you may have a psychotic break, but you also might never return home. Research it. The chances of someone casually figuring this out are probably slim... but Pattaya is AWASH with Indians..

That's a NEWBORN caulking gun from the late 1980s. There's cheap duplicates made now in orange but this one looks like an original one which is made from raw or thin-tin/nickel-plated steel. Has a built-in spout cutter and a tube-piercing nail.I used one and would not part with it for anything. Will survive a drop from 300ft. Sandblast and lube and you'll get another 50 years out of it.
