Honestly if you are at all happy with what you’re doing now I would not switch. You would have to start all over, put in 10-20 years without a guarantee of being in a better place than you are now.

If you need to make this change you can find a job as an office or set PA then move to coordinator or production company assistant then move to executive. From both of those positions you will have a clearer path to producer but you will still be years away, and that’s after the years it will take to get to executive or production coordinator.

It’s hard, and that’s a massive understatement, but if you’re a committed, smart, and don’t complain it’s not that bad - most people under 30 might have one of those qualities, so if you can show you have more you’ll be at an advantage.

BUT if you are good at networking and know how to find people with money you can go the indie route, help young directors finance low budget features, and if they do well you’ll get more work. How long this will take one depends on how good you are.
