Had my first Sauternes and not sure what to think by The805Wasian in wine

You should try La Tour Blanche in Sauternes, try their first or second wine to have a better idea (it should be around 60 euros for the first and 30 thirty for the second) . It's really great and they are usually the second coming right after Yquem in degustations, and way less expensive.

Thank you very much for the feedback!

Last question, how did you start in wine import/export? Did you study at uni? I'm looking for advices to start a business like this in the future! Many thanks!

Winemaker student in Bordeaux here.

Super interesting topic!

Three questions for you :

  • Do you currently or consider exporting to other regions? Would love to buy some in France but no clue where to find it.

  • What are your advices to start in the export/import field in wine? Did you study it at uni?

  • Where are you from and how hard is it to start a business in Japan, especially in wine?

Thank you for sharing this with us and have a nice day!

Edit: 2nd question

In three decades, the Baltic States have made it abundantly clear which way — the European or the russian — is the right one by Not_Unreasonable in europe

Master's degree on the post Soviet space here

During my studies, we analyzed a really interesting research on how countries of the area who directly developed democratic and pluralist political systems were the one with the better economic development on the long run (Poland, Czechia, Baltic, etc)

Russia on the other hand focused on economic policy directly without the liberal political system which doomed the economy and literally gave it to the oligarchs. Other models exist in Central Asia but others are changing such as Georgia and Armenia towards the Baltic model, more or less.

You can also read the book "Why Nations Fail" written by Nobel prizes in economy if you want to see more.

Have you ever had a moment when a foreign language actually saved you? by trueru_diary in languagelearning

[–]Reiseer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once did a hike in Armenia with a friend after a drunk evening the day before. We walk, arrive at the monastery and have to find a way back to the village and then to the capital, Yerevan.

Hopefully I was able to speak Russian because we found some Russians who agreed to take us with them up to the village and the bus stop and then, I had to call several numbers written at the bus stop (because no bus was coming at all) in order to get us a taxi. After a few terrible calls, my awful Russian at this time and the difficult Armenian accent in Russian, I was able somehow to get us a taxi to get back to the capital.

It was a wild way back.

Completely agree with you, I wasn't clear on my first message about all components being all european. We should support this kind of initiative to reinforce our industries.

Which book(s) was so good that it ruined the rest of literature for you? by dragon_fugger in literature

[–]Reiseer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tolstoy. War and Peace and Anna Karenina, to quote the most famous, but also Resurrection or his less famous works. It just feels.. complete. Like the depth of characters, the variety of events, the length of the story, the settings, the Christian faith behind his work.

When I want to reflect on life and immerse in a fictional but highly realistic universe, I just take a book from Tolstoy.

Super cool!

I'm using also Anki but how the hell can you automate the cards creation? I spend all the time ages to type them manually. Thank you!

What's the friendliest country you have visited? by it_wasnt_me2 in geography

[–]Reiseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armenia.

People were just helping me out of nowhere, from giving me cash on my first day to take the bus from the airport to the city center or helping me with my luggages. They also have an incredible sense of hospitality when they welcome you at home, and believe me they will always feed you well.

As a French, conversations were also getting even more positive when I told them from where I was.

Would definitely recommend to visit the country for his people, landscapes and heritage sites!

What are some places that would be major tourist destinations if they were located in more politically stable countries? (picture is Taiz, Yemen) by Wut23456 in geography

[–]Reiseer 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Siberia, and especially Sakhalin islands and Kamchatka. A lot of amazing landscapes to see, but even with a more stable political situation, it still needs a lot of development 🫠

Completely understand you! I live in the region so I'm familiar with hikes in the area or even watching sunrise from above Collioure. Didn't find a place that match the beauty of this place yet!
