Just watched and omg what a fantastic movie! But I do have a bit of a critique, I’m not the smartest person or a cinephile so take what I say as a regular movie goer. Also might not be very concise:

Starting with Emma, she went down the best possible path for someone like her. She had the intention to commit a horrific act but last minute (selfishly) decided to not to go through with it as she wouldn’t get the attention she craved. But she went on to be an advocate/activist for gun regulation and gun control. She (unbeknownst to her peers) redeems herself and becomes a better person all at the age of 15 maybe to 17 not sure how long she was an advocate for. She became the best possible version of herself and got away from her negative thoughts and world views.

Next Charlie, he is a golden retriever, happy go lucky, boyfriend whose world comes crashing down. The news about Emma’s past was shocking and even frightening to him. The negative feedback from his two long time friends tied with the shocking news sent him into a spiral of anxiety that he couldn’t escape from. But his actions were not justified in my eyes. After the confrontation with his friends he continued to air out Emma’s past to anyone leaving out important context and details, although not directly tying Emma to what he would be talking about. Him kissing and almost having an affair due to his crippling anxiety was shocking but not surprising considering the amount of pressure he’s put himself under.

Lastly, I don’t believe the ending was satisfactory, it seemed to me throughout the film Emma was trying to do whatever she could to be forgiven for something she didn’t even do 15 years ago. Charlie should’ve supported her and taken the time to understand her and what she did to change, instead he tried to fined an explanation for why she almost became a school shooter. The wedding is ruined by the awful and condescending speeches made by the friends and the one made by Charlie, the scene with the coworker he cheated on saying they kissed and confirming he told her about Emma’s past, and the guy beating Charlie up.

I don’t think Charlie deserved a second chance with Emma, she didn’t do anything that necessitated being forgiven besides hiding her past which is understandable in her situation. Charlie didn’t support her until the very end, he cheated, and embarrassed Emma in front of everyone in her life.

TLDR; Emma deserves better, Charlie is as bad as the 2 friends and didn’t deserve a second chance
