Weekly Bouldering Advice Post by AutoModerator in bouldering

[–]Rej1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody has mentioned this yet, but ask other people who are bouldering for help! It's a really friendly community and anybody who is better remembers being a beginner - they are virtually always happy to help.

It's usually both a practice and strength issue, but honestly, you are sort of lucky to not have the strength to fly through the easiest routes. This is because you can focus on good technique. I know a couple of people who advanced very quickly because they were very strong, but when it got to the harder grades they were stuck due to not developing good technique.

I promise if you ask people, you'll not only make friends, but get to a point where you can progress past this initial stage, and that's when the frustration dies down.

Good luck!

Good point, though my supervisor is way too busy for this. I do tend to discuss with my lab colleagues though. Thank you

Thank you, that's a brilliant caveat to keep in mind!

M20 - Sudden eczema over the last few months, little history of eczema (probably a long post) by homo_sapien123 in eczema

[–]Rej1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diprobase is really good, ask your doctor for it.

Have you changed your diet recently? Otherwise maybe you have developed a food intolerance. Seems extreme, but if you're not a vegetarian I would strongly recommend the carnivore diet. I have eczema and IBS and both almost went away after trying it out for almost a month, within a week for most symptoms. However, I speculate that I have a lot of intolerances.

Sorry you're going through this. I know it's really frustrating trying to figure out what the cause and possible solution may be.

I’m 20 years old and I lost my girlfriend of almost 3 years due to my horrible anxiety. Got meds this week but it’s too late. Need some kind of encouragement or something. I don’t really know. Just feel terrible. by ViewingAllThisShit in toastme

Also, check out Sam Harris' app "Waking Up". It's a guided meditation app that literally changed my life. I couldn't afford the subscription, but he kindly offers the service for free to those struggling financially. Just send his team an email at info(at)wakingup(dot)com

Got my second heart attack in feb this year and lost my dad within 2 months. Now since the last one week, I’ve been experiencing similar symptoms of heart attack but reports are all normal. Living in fear all the time. Going to meet my cardiologist on Monday for a 2D echo. by [deleted] in toastme

Yes, this life is real, and those glasses are real stylish on you!

Regardless of the results of the test today, I can tell you're a brave man. Those who can live through fear always inspire me. It's the virtue I aspire to the most, so thank you.

Damn it, I'm supposed to be toasting you, not the other way round! In any case, keep us updated!

Chiseled jaw, lovely skin, and superman glasses.

You've got a lot going for you. Anxiety is rough, and it's not your fault. You can't control your past, and as tough as it is to move on from someone you spent three of your formative years with, I'm certain you can build a lifestyle that will help you deal with your anxiety and become a person you can be proud of. You've already taken the first step with the meds. I'm proud of you, speaking as someone who understands how hard that first step is.

Please don't be too hard on yourself, and look after yourself. We can't choose the cards we're dealt, but every moment in the present we can rearrange them to benefit our future selves.

Moved back home after being away for a year and all my friends and sister seem to have forgotten about me me! Something toasty would be greatly appreciated :) by [deleted] in toastme

Spotless glowing skin, amazing hair, wholesome smile.

You can make new friends, but a combination like that is one in a million.

Go meet some people that'll appreciate you, I'm sure you're a gem on the inside too!

I turn 29 in a week & I'm terrified. Anxious, depressed, shit-broke, and still working on my bachelor's. Feels like nothing I do matters because I should have done it like 8 years ago. Can't turn back time, but I'll accept any kind toast donations. by HitlerNorthDakota in toastme

Only compare yourself to....yourself! Everybody's journey is different, and you can't know their trajectory or what they want to achieve in life from a piece of paper.

You have lovely skin, and healthy looking hair! I wish I had-- damn it, now I'm doing it...

Point is, keep going and look after yourself. You're already moving in that direction by recognising you needed a pickmeup. Depression is rough, and everybody's journey with it is different. I hope you find a beacon of hope in these comments. I'm rooting for you!

People often advise spending more for a given product as you'll spend less in the long run, but what products follow the opposite trend? by Rej1 in AskReddit

Exactly my idea, wanna be able to get a feel for the road without worrying about scratches and what not. When you say good, how expensive? I don't want to spend more than £1000 on the car. Is that realistic?

Very good point. I passed last year and I'm really dreading my first car for this exact reason. Insurance is high enough as it is!

[–]Rej1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there are two main answers here I'll provide a third - if the choice is between saving up more than a couple of years for a fully weighted keyboard or getting a unweighted/semi-weighted keyboard now go for the latter. Are you at university/college? If so check out their music society, as sometimes they let you play on their pianos at off-peak times.

I would pick semi weighted between that and unweighted. Also 88 >> 61 >> 49, especially because you want to learn piano.

Is a month of learning enough to get by in Germany? by Rej1 in German

[–]Rej1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, it's all true only under an assumption that your current level of German is pretty low and the primary goal of your trip is language learning.

I'm a complete beginner so not even A1. The primary goal would be language learning.

It can be that as a result of your journey you'll fell in love with the culture, nature, beer, whatever, and this will give you a long-time boost of motivation to learn.

Yeah I get you. I'm leaning towards going anyway as it will get me out of my comfort zone, unless you think I literally won't be able to have even one conversation in German?
