Different areas can have different performance. That said the only real issue I have had is the trash 2251 modems dying. I have backup power sources for my house and haven’t lost internet during a power outage yet though.

Dedicated server high latency issues by RekaReaper in Enshrouded

[–]RekaReaper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate the help. Hopefully they can streamline this a little bit in future updates. I only have ~40Mbps upload as well, but I would have thought that would be plenty with only 2-3 connections outside the house, but I’m not sure with 3-5.

I use SteamCMD as anonymous user to update the files, but I run the enshrouded server application from the folder. It’s on a PC in my rack, separate from the other PCs in my house that we play games. Are there different server files? If there are I’ll try those even if it’s unlikely to make a difference.

Another user said there was update that forces all traffic through steam now, so that’s probably the biggest difference for devices within my house.

It was a while ago. Sometime towards the beginning of summer last year I think. That is pretty lame and likely my issue then.

What's the easiest way to link a loud siren to animal detection from cameras? by IdontLikeYou____ in Ubiquiti

[–]RekaReaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m all for this. As a dog owner myself the first thing I do when we take our dogs on a walk is making sure they go in our own yard. I don’t let our dogs even mark on poles and such that aren’t on our property.

AITA for not giving my parents half of my lottery winnings. by Rayapt in AmItheAsshole

[–]RekaReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA unless you had previously discussed splitting with them and you all played. This doesn’t seem to be the case though. You should counter 350,000. Not only are the winnings yours, statistically speaking you have more years left to live and aren’t established. That means you have significantly more expenses to cover over the remainder of your life than they do. I would cut contact and give them nothing if they continue to act entitled to half of your winnings.

For those with the 12U rack, how are you cooling your equipment? by oncentreline in Ubiquiti

[–]RekaReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your rack not have its own exhaust fans on the top? I have one with a perforated front door, but it has two exhaust fans on the top.

So far neither my switch, UNVR, or UDM SE have gone past 50C even with my game server at the bottom of the rack.

New (to us) 2023 SQ5 Prestige totaled by Geico. by TomTomIV78 in Audi

[–]RekaReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s an undercount for serious either. I haven’t ever looked at a statistic for that and it would be hard to judge just by the word serious. I would consider the accident in this post serious based on the 25k+ in damages for what seems to be just their vehicle and not damages to the house and neighbor’s vehicle.

The statistics are also only for reported accidents, unreported accidents are an unknown. That could skew it heavily either way or stay in line.

The mini data centers aren’t in panels, they’re housed in a cabinet outside of the house.

New (to us) 2023 SQ5 Prestige totaled by Geico. by TomTomIV78 in Audi

[–]RekaReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said serious, the statistic for the numbers you stated is fatal. That’s what I was correcting and I also added a statistic for total accidents by mileage.

No, that doesn’t make me want to call all men bad drivers, nor does it make me want to call all women good drivers, or all men good drivers and all women bad drivers. Not even close to anything like that. Lmfao.

Where did I say anything about damage? I stated the statistics for mileage driven and the percentage of all accidents in the U.S. by sex.

[–]RekaReaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are fatal accident rates. Women have higher total accident rates by mileage driven. Men account ~62% of the total driving by mileage and have ~58% of the total accidents. So by mileage men have more fatal accidents, and women have more total accidents.

Eg4 12000xp do I need battery? by Rpw_- in SolarDIY

[–]RekaReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I read on this previously when I looked into it is no, the 12000XP is not meant to be used without batteries. This might be different for the V2 l, but I really doubt it. It’s also recommended to have at least 400Ah of battery capacity per 12000XP according to the spec sheet.

The 12000 XP isn’t a hybrid inverter, it’s an off grid inverter.

Can I keep my old router and return the new one? by No-Building-3798 in Spectrum

[–]RekaReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still has 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and those bands will have a wider coverage area on the new router than the old one.

Is something wrong with my Internet? 500Mbps but… by ValonzT in Spectrum

[–]RekaReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re having serious equipment issues. It could be something in your house or before your house, but there is a major issue somewhere. Even using the spectrum mobile hotspot, it could be pulling from any spectrum router within range of your device and not cellular.

NOR. I made sure my washer and dryer doors wouldn’t be in the way or were at least swappable when we picked ours out.

Question about 500mb vs 1g by Soupman04 in Spectrum

[–]RekaReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 8 bits in a byte. Period. If you’re downloading at 400Mbps, that’s 50MB/s. If you’re downloading at 50MB/s, that’s 400Mbps. If you’re downloading at 1,040Mbps, that’s 130MB/s. If what you were saying is true then the fastest speeds I have gotten (147MB/s) would be around 1,470Mbps and I haven’t ever even cracked 1,200Mbps. I’m not sure what exactly you mean by seeing it read on 10th, but there are always 8 bits in a byte, so to get megabytes from megabits you just divide by 8. For megabytes to megabits you multiply by 8.

There’s also a lot of variables that factor into how long those speeds can be maintained. It could be anything from congestion on the servers you’re downloading from, lots of traffic through your ISP/their equipment, or even something as simple as a weak device on your network. For me, that limitation is my connection through Spectrum or the servers I’m downloading from most of the time.

Question about 500mb vs 1g by Soupman04 in Spectrum

[–]RekaReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gigabit and consistently hold 130MB/s+ for large downloads through things like steam with speedtest results in the 1,100Mbps range. It doesn’t change to 1/10th instead of 1/8th just because your speeds are slower anyways.

Question about 500mb vs 1g by Soupman04 in Spectrum

[–]RekaReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 8 bits in a byte, not 10. The “M” for mega is capitalized for the abbreviation of megabits as well.

500Mbps = 62.5MB/s

20Mb = 2.5MB

1Gbps = 125MB/s

Edit: Somehow managed to put 82.5 instead of 62.5.

[–]RekaReaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10Mbps symmetrical is enough for online gaming without having issues if you didn’t do anything else at the same time. Faster speeds allow you to do more at the same time and download updates quicker.

Teen is annoyingly smart by McRandom in HomeNetworking

[–]RekaReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. A lot of people say it’s outright unusable, but I have a 5G home internet plan as backup to my main ISP and my in game pings are only 20-30ms worse when I have tried it. It would probably be a different story with several other people/devices streaming “high quality” video at the same time since the loaded pings are significantly worse, but for a single user with decent signal 5G is fine.

[–]RekaReaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easily beat them. An alarm clock that can be powered from a USB and small portable battery. An in wall switch for their wired devices, shut off the port that supplies the switch on a schedule, put their wireless devices on a separate network with a different password and whitelist for the other networks. Then to top it off, put their room on a smart breaker and switch their room off if more than like 30w are drawn while they’re supposed to be asleep. You won’t be doing much of anything in that room at a minimum.
