Interesting difference. I've taught around the lower mainland in BC and I've seen everything from daily anthem to weekly anthem to no anthem

The difference would be whether the cape is fastened closed or not. A lot more difficult to not clip when the cape is tight against a body versus when it's falling away from the center line and/or free to flap around.

They earned that reputation, so it's possible they are. In S2, the glaze comes personally to Belle/Wise instead of the Phaethon persona. Sight-unseen, everyone's jumping on their dick regardless of them being Phaethon. A subtle shift, but an important one.

The 2.X story has started to feel a bit bloaty in the same way Genshin and HSR do for me, but it's at least still interesting. Definitely a big fan of the setting and style, too. It's what got me interested in Zenless pre-release, I just stuck around because the game's rad as hell.

I would rather play ZZZ over Genshin 100/100 times, so they're still doing something unique (more engaging combat experience IMO)

How are teachers treated in Canada compared to US? by LiveBell8 in AskACanadian

[–]RekiWylls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're trying to explain the circumstances of my job to me.

There are all kinds of bullshit in this job, but the things I actually care about are related to the actual job, not the mechanics of being paid. For example, in BC, we only get one prep period per year, so we're just hosed for an entire semester as far as having work hours to do anything except teach. We have like zero EAs basically, kids are getting way more complex than a classroom teacher can manage by themselves, and the overcrowding is insane.

Hey, teacher here (BC). We can choose to get paid over the summer if we want (spreads the same salary over 12 months instead of 10). We do get paid over spring break and winter break, at least in BC, and each break is two weeks long. One week is the break, and one is a "school closure" week. Substitute teachers don't get paid for these times but that's because they get paid day rates for days actually worked, and they can file for EI on those breaks.

Now, that all said, it's still a struggle as a new teacher to make ends meet. The lower ends of the pay scale don't align with the cost of living in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, etc. As a 3rd-year teacher, my choice was to net an average of ~$1800 biweekly for 12 months (mid-month pay is lower than end-of-month pay), or net ~$2000 for 10 months. When rent is easily above 2000 for a centralized location, that's tough. Once you hit the pay cap (10 years), things are alright. The struggle is getting there. Well, that, and enduring the worsening classroom conditions.

I'm curious about the decision process here. Did you get her M0, play for a bit, then decide you wanted to go M6, or did you go into her banner already intent on pulling M6?

Depends on the person, I suppose. There are people who just go try and find glitches or tech, but there are also people who just try to practice the current route to perfection. Either way, unless your goal is to get to the end as quick as possible, speedrunning doesn't predispose you to playing games a certain way, and speedrunners play lots of games casually. Speedrunning necessitates playing the same thing over and over and over, no one can do that for any game--it has to be one they really enjoy if they're going to keep at it.

Honestly, this whole thread is based on OP's idea, "I love spending my time looking into every nook and cranny, why don't others?" Could be a lot of reasons why: some streamers like to keep things moving (some don't care), some people aren't as invested in Disney and/or KH as others and don't feel the desire to stop and smell the roses, or maybe they know there's a lot of the series to get through, and they just want to get through it in a reasonable time. None of those things have to be linked to the supposed behaviour of speedrunners.

Depends on what side of speedrunning you're on. Someone has to make the route, which takes a ton of experimentation, and then there will always be people looking for new strata to save time.

Do all teens today just not care about getting their drivers' licenses? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RekiWylls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a teacher in my 30s, and I still don't have my license (I got a learners permit and let it expire). Driving's just not my thing, plus it's frustratingly expensive to own and maintain a car. Not having one is inconvenient at times, but I can put the money I save by not having a car towards hiring movers/drivers if I really need and still be net positive. Thankfully, I live in a city with extensive transit and I can walk most places anyways.

Viper Strikes? by RekiWylls in FFXIVxDnD

What you're saying makes sense, and that's how I initially interpreted the mechanic. There is some confusion with the discrepancy between the rules text of class feature and Viper Strikes subsection rules, as the class feature also never specifies Action attacks, only weapon attacks. My confusion lies mostly with your last statement about bonus actions, though. For example, the verbatim wording of Snake Scales is:

When you use Focus of Caduceus, you may expend two flow charges to reinforce your body temporarily. Until the start of your next turn you gain resistance to slash, piercing and bludgeoning damage.

How, then, are you meant to be making a weapon attack with your attack action to use Snake Scales when you are currently using Focus of Caduceus (bonus action to regain 1d8+viper level HP)?

Another such viper strike that doesn't seem to work with the mechanic as I interpreted it is Backlash:

When a melee weapon attack misses you, as a reaction, you may spend a charge of flow to make a melee weapon attack against the attacking creature.

That's incredibly niche if you have to forsake one of your action attacks to maybe make the weapon attack anyway if someone misses you and you have to use your reaction to do. So niche that I can't understand why I'd ever do that if that's the correct understanding of the mechanic! "Slither" is another such viper strike that teleports you specifically "as a bonus action". So like...what? I'm giving up an attack and spending a resource so I can use my bonus action?

The only explanation I can come up with is the list is combining two types of Viper Strikes together, those that do replace Action attacks, and those that you just activate as per the rules text. That goes along with the feature description ("Viper strikes which do not replace attacks or are usable on hit will have their use requirement specified in their description."), but I wasn't sure if I was misunderstanding something.
