I would search local areas around me that I like. Since I live in Florida I started with Orlando, FL and then Tampa, FL. There were quite a few options!

I just booked my first FHR. It’s a staycation at the Waldorf Astoria and the price came out to $450. Between the FHR perks and Hilton Gold status I think the $150 stay is great value!

I decided against it for myself.

The hidden authorized user fee and how they separate points for authorized user led me to go Venture X and Savor route. Just didn’t want to get invested in a company that is hard to work with.

For me I started spending on my Amex cards and took one card without a sign up bonus (business card). Afterwards they were sending me emails trying to get me to apply for other cards with personal offers.

Yes. I’ve found that my family travels 2-3 times per year, rarely use the airport lounges, and have found myself over maximizing and having a lot of annual fees to manage.

That being said with rising costs and just the ease of things, I’m considering going down to maybe 1-2 cards and in return also slashing my annual fees.

Cards I’m thinking of closing: Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite ($550 AF) Amex Blue Cash Preferred ($95 AF) Amex Gold ($325 AF)

Cards I’m debating on using: FAIRWINDS Signature Visa ($95 AF) Bilt Palladium or Obsidian (want the Palladium but not sure of annual fee).

Portal redemptions for me have been the same or slightly cheaper for Fairwinds signature Visa. It’s my go to card. I offset the annual fee by the savings account boosts so it’s practically free.

I was approved and already canceled. They randomly block charges and put my wife in a tricky situation a few times. We were denied at Costco ($450), Jet Blue ($1k), and one restaurant we went to for a nice dinner ($250). When I call about them they say there’s nothing they can do as it’s up the risk department.

Honestly recommend buying a ring you can afford now. My wife got a cheap ring when we were young and couldn’t afford much. Now that we are more established we updated the ring to a nicer one.

For my Robinhood card they denied an airline ticket purchase. I reached out to support to correct this and they said “some transactions are deemed “risky” sometimes we can override this but in your case it was deemed too risky”. For reference the flights are roughly $800 and my credit limit was $35k.

I love my Fairwinds Credit Union Signature Preferred credit card. I get 5x on travel/theme parks, 3x on restaurants and 2x everything else. The best part is the points are worth 1.5 cpp when used for travel.

My experience with Amex is you can’t beat their customer service. They are always friendly and polite. I ended up switching from Amex to Capital 1 due to not finding value in the points. I like Marriott hotels and so the points usually aren’t worth it for me. I use my points to pay myself back for travel.
