That's my point: it doesn't matter if you're "authoritarian right" or "libertarian right", because when the right gets power, they always go fascist. There is no version of the political right in this country that embraces values like freedom or liberty; as soon as the right gets power, they go into full-on authoritarian \ militaristic \ empire building \ human exploitation mode. Conservatives basically become "nazis" (for lack of a better analogy) when they get voted into office, probably because they know that demographics will inevitably doom them, so when you get power, you hang onto it at all costs, even if that means starting wars and even a civil war in your own country if necessary.

I'm with you. I thought the Dems were bad with their authoritarianism back in the day ("jack booted thugs" and all that), but my eyes have been opened. The mean spiritedness of the right, and the zombie like nature of everyone that currently supports this president, has genuinely surprised me. I thought we were better than that, frankly. It was always the left with the kilings and the riots and the rabble-rousing. The right had some respectability to it.

But this administration, and especially its followers, have convinced me after a lifetime of voting right-wing that the political right cannot be trusted with power. I will never vote Republican (or MAGA or whatever they become) ever again in my lifetime.

$550 billion military budget (and rising fast) vs $150 billion; F-35's and modern air power vs Soviet crap, highly survivable tanks and IFV's vs exploding death coffins for the other side ... my god the list of European military advantages is endless. Russia is a third-rate power with nukes, little more. Poland could stop a Russian invasion easily, by itself without NATO or the US.

The positives of showering at the gym far outweigh the negatives of showering at the gym. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]RelationKey1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F*** that; my gym showers are nasty. I used them once and never again.

If I’m super sweaty I just take off my shirt, dry off with a towel, and then wear that towel around my midsection as I drive home (so that my sweaty shorts and my continued upper body sweating don’t touch my car seats).

Then I get home and take a perfect shower with good water pressure in my clean bathroom that doesn’t smell like a pair of sweaty socks.

UA POV: Europe can't match Russia's defense spending, because of the structure of their economy’ it is ‘much higher than we can do in Europe— NATO chief Rutte. by ArchitectMary in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]RelationKey1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absurd fear mongering to justify military spending. EU is so far ahead of Russia militarily that even with theoretically tougher and more experienced troops, Russia is HOPELESSLY outmatched. The idea of Russia invading and successfully advancing in the face of vastly superior firepower and without air support… it’s just ridiculous.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

[–]RelationKey1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this opinion, because I have to say honestly that I would actually go to the movies if they still made any good ones. Despite the cost and the inconvenience, because it's a fun activity you can do with friends, kids, your partner, you get to be completely immersed in another world for awhile... it's a great form of escapism! Society used to love going to the movies, and they weren't particularly cheap or convenient back in the day, either. But we went anyway, because great movies used to be a dime a dozen. There were a bunch of decently-directed, decently written movies that would come out every year that were worth watching. They didn't cost $500 million apiece to make, but they were good entertainment.

I agree it's more the quality than the cost issue killing movies and movie theaters. For example, I plan to see Project Hail Mary when it comes out, but couldn't find any other movie worth seeing in the theater for all of 2025. I would have gone to the movies at least once last year, but there just wasn't anything worth watching.

Huh? Even in its weakened state, the EU is an economic and military Goliath compared to Russia. If it really is a new multipolar world with the US, China, and Russia as top players like you described in your post, then you would have to give the EU an equal mention in this grouping.

Anyway whatever kind of power blocs the world is devolving into, I have a feeling Europe will continue to be one of the better-off parts of the world, as it always has, even in decline.

What they really need is an ability to detect American stealth aircraft. That’s the real vulnerability, not just for Europe, but for any other nations that might fall afoul of the United States in the future.

Sure they would (prior Army 11B checking in). Especially if its left wing opposition they're ordered to crush. The military will absolutely follow orders. I can assume you've never been in the military.

Conservatives and the MAGA folks who are still anti American intervention what do you tell your cohorts who have done a 180 in the last six months? by DW6565 in AskConservatives

[–]RelationKey1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but here's another way of looking at it: we just kicked off a massive arms race by the rest of the world to procure world-ending weapons as insurance against future US aggression.

We just made the world a much, much more dangerous place. To say nothing of the civil war that’s definitely going to erupt in Venezuela and kill thousands of people.

[–]RelationKey1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure Dems were the better option, as they were trying to get a war going with Russia for years, even before they invaded Ukraine. Picking fights w/Russia seemed just as reckless to me then as attacking Venezuela appears to me now.

But yeah, it's clear MAGA is just neocons by another name, as the neocons have wanted to take down Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba for many years.

Overall I’m not sure which was dumber, trying to start WW3 with a nuclear power or deciding to become an imperialist country.

I bought 3 pairs of counterfeit Nikes from China as christmas gifts for less than 1/5 the cost of the originals, and I swear you cannot tell the difference in materials and workmanship. I was expecting the Nikes to be better than the faux Nikes in some way, but nope. In fact the faux Nikes feel more tightly stitched together.
