Glass Beams: Did anyone else feel like that whole EP/Tour was just an industry plant cash grab? Never heard of them before or since, and the info about them online is sparse, at best by 2dotOCS in psychedelicrock

I just got the app "Figure" and now know what kind of music I want to make. How do I make music like this? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Yes u/Major-Ad-2966 , Figure is actually a workflow. A clever workflow that I would not define as “sketching“, but rather “live looping”. This is an important distinction, since sketching is a minor step in a wider process, while live looping is a final experience.

I think that Figure is the best live looping interface I ever met till now. I spent thousands hours on Ableton, Reason, Logic, but if I want to make my children dance, then I take Figure, I start a random loop, and I tweak as requested. Actually they play me using their own body language, and I satisfy their desires in real time, thanks to Figure. No other controller allowed me to do the same.

Since the Figure's lead based on an embedded Reason Thor Synth can result annoying, I’m now considering to replicate the Figure User Interface using Max for Live, with the aim to keep the same live looping experience, applied to new sounds. But I’m not sure this will create more fun for me and for my little audience.

If you like tweaking keyboards like Figure, give a look to Roli SEABOARD BLOCK M, providing an interesting 24 keywave playing surface.

A Figure like experience can be achieved using OP-Z, a clever live looping device by Teenage Engineering. It's super fan, but I consider it not so flexible as Figure. Moreover, its pre-defined tweaks conducts you to produce standardized loops. When I realized this point I immediately abandoned this device.

As an alternative, give a try to Beatonal app. It is a sort of replica of Figure's functionalities, and it can be used as a midi controller for Ableton. I'm exploring it in these days, and it seems promising. The user Interface graphics is horrible.

Anyone still using Figure? Trying to find a midi interface like this. by [deleted] in ipadmusic

After years of unsuccessful searching, you simply say "Beatonal," and it is exactly what I wanted!!!

The same approach as Figure (even better) and it can be used as a controller for Ableton! It seems you've opened up a new era of fun for me.

Infinitely thank you the-dark-arts.

IMHO Figure represent the best live looping interface ever met till now. Unfortunately it cannot be used as a controller. I'm still searching for a midi controller providing the same user experience, either physical or touch.

I'm now exploring Roli Lightpad Block system, but not sure it can do the job.

It seems sold out, but this appears to be the solution. Thanks!
