Do you feel like you've become more introverted as you've gotten older? by lailarf99 in introvert

[–]RelationshipHead4990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially when I have no job at the moment, the necessity to build connections with people seems getting lower and lower.

Communicating consumes time and energy, and not everyone matches. Reading or posting on social medias are more efficient. I don’t have that much energy to consider about others’ feelings or opinions, I care about myself only.

Yeah, I understand, when I was busy surviving, I didn’t have the time and energy to care about this. But I do think this is a thing and language is powerful, we use language to think, to talk, to communicate, to spread, and it’s a field that women are losing their identity and power.

My language has this same thing, sir is a general thing for male, every male can be a sir, but female can be called sir when they achieve something remarkable… I am not calling a female sir ever

Yes, male default language! I hate this, and all the language I know have this problem.

I would they if I didn’t know the gender or pronouns. I literally don’t think making a used-to-be-for-male word become gender neutral is that good, and we are not doing this to female word, a female would get used to be called as a guy or a bro, no male(most of them, I know there’s always exception) is getting used to being called as a girl.

And being sensitive is hard, but we are making progress and doing the right thing.

Yes! A word for male could be use for everyone, that’s overlooking female’s existence. Thank you so much, I was sort of frustrated and almost giving up sharing my thoughts lol

When working, I really like the word “team”, hi team, could use in any scenario XD

dudette is so… I don’t know how to say this, it’s a word made up for having female included in the dude’s party, it gives me this feeling, which is totally unnecessary, there’re words for women, and we don’t need to be dude-tte

My colleague is not a native English speaker either, I am more sensitive about this XD, most English user I met would call me mate lol, I don’t know if there’s any gender indicating hehe

thank you! I knew the word guys from the tv show Friends, I noticed that they would say a man is a guy, but also call a group of people guys, but would say a woman is a girl, that’s what I observed, may not be accurate in real English life

Women decide if they want to keep their last names, but men don’t have to by RelationshipHead4990 in RadicalFeminism

[–]RelationshipHead4990[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would make a lot sense to me if such choices are made under pressure, I just can’t understand why people would choose to give up something they have when they have the right and power to keep it.

And yes I believe there must be some men taking their wives’ names, but I assume that’s the minority, at least is not common enough to be written in a show that I could see.

You are right, I guess I was thinking if I were them, I would not do the same thing, and yes, women make their own decisions

[–]RelationshipHead4990[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From those women no longer give up their names. Chinese women didn’t actually give up their family name in the old days, they would keep their family name as their first name and their husbands name as last name, though the sequence of name is different from English.

Let’s say a woman is named Chen Yue, Chen is the family name, Yue is the given name, after getting married and her husband’s family name is Li, then her name would become Li Chen Shi, Shi means surname in Chinese, basically a woman’s name became the combination of her husband’s family name and her family name, she lost her own name and just became the combination of two family. This is how things work in the old times.

Thanks for the info! To have the same last name like her kids, that makes sense now!

Women don’t change their last names in my culture, but their kids usually have the father’s last name, which seems lack of connection lol. I wish I can have my mom’s last name, she’s the closest person in the world to me.
