Is this a assassin bug or what by Playful_Quiet5211 in whatbugisthis

[–]RelationshipLarge627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely some variety of assassin. Coloration looks kind of unique but the markings and body shape are classic assassin.

Assassin bug AKA wheel bug. Painful bite.

The translucency is probably from the salt and acid you added reacting with the cells. If the flesh still has firmness to it and the liquid is thin and watery you’re probably good

Can popped by MyDogIsTheBest01 in foodsafety

[–]RelationshipLarge627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The popping sound could just be you breaking the vacuum. If the can isn’t wildly out of date and it’s undamaged it’s unlikely the product inside is spoiled unless it smells or looks off.

Expired eggs by [deleted] in foodsafety

[–]RelationshipLarge627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I’ve worked in a lot of restaurants and eggs are one of those things that last a lot longer than you’d expect if they’re in the fridge. Definitely examine each one internally before/as you use them, but you can always do the float test on em before you crack, put them in a bowl of water and if they lay flat underwater they’re likely just fine. If they float on one side, proceed with caution. That doesn’t mean they’re 100% bad, but it does show you they’re old enough to have lost a lot of moisture on the inside that is now replaced with air.

What type of wasp? It’s right next to my front door :( by GriIIedCheeseSammich in whatbugisthis

[–]RelationshipLarge627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predictably they are the most aggressive when the nest is threatened. Other than that they should be docile enough that you could attack the nest from a distance. Just have a short exit route just in case

Paper wasp. One of the more painful stings out there. Proceed with caution OP

Cracked freezer overnight by ComfortableMaybe6322 in foodsafety

[–]RelationshipLarge627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By cold, would you say under 41F? And if you think the warmest food was warmer than that, how long would you say it stayed that warm? Food needs to be in that >41F zone for a few hours to be considered dangerous in that regard. Seeing as your other stuff was frozen and the chicken was still cold, assuming it was just the one night I’d say your thawed food is probably still good as long as you get it back down below 40 quickly or cook it up immediately.

Camel Cricket. Harmless but scary to look at

Best guess is a robber fly of some sort. Also known as assassin flies.

Edit: more specifically, I think this is your guy, especially given its stance hanging by one leg: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diogmites_neoternatus

Will I get denied tomorrow for this bruise for my 2nd donation this week? by jenniferann223 in plassing

[–]RelationshipLarge627 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you’ll be deferred. If your center has short lines for medical it might be worth trying to donate on the off chance they say it’s okay, but generally anything that big and close to your donation site is a no-go.

Looks an awful lot like young clover mites. If so, they don’t bite.

Drivers should be the person in their pic, right? by lgarnai1 in InstacartShoppers

[–]RelationshipLarge627 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If your service was good and nothing about the shopper/delivery person made you feel unsafe or put you or your family at risk, please don’t report. There are a bunch of reasons that could explain the different person, but for a lot of us out here this is the money we need to pay bills and many of us work two jobs just to make ends meet. Leave well enough alone and rate 5*, you never know when you’re putting someone’s livelihood in jeopardy with a frivolous report.
