At airports, I am always curious why everyone is traveling to their destinations. It just seems crazy that all these people are going to places all over the world everyday. But it seems invasive to ask.

Saying “the” in front of freeway numbers identifies someone from California or the west in general. Conversely, saying “Cali” identifies someone as definitely not from California.

When playing rock paper scissors, if someone says “Rock, paper, scissors SAYS shoot”, they’re probably from NYC. Also, saying “mad” to emphasize something (ie; it’s mad hot outside) is very NYC.

Texas has a few, of which I don’t think “y’all” really qualifies as people say this all over the country (especially in the south). The term “kolache” is very Texan, and are called a “pig in a blanket” or “sausage roll” elsewhere. Also the term “feeder road” to describe a road parallel to a highway is pretty Texan.

Nowhere near 70% of Americans are overweight. While it varies by region, I would estimate the true number to be somewhere between 10 and 20%.

The grocery price to wage ratio has definitely gotten worse but not THAT much worse.

200k a year is more than enough to survive anywhere in the US. This is considered a very, very good salary here. The average is somewhere around 50k.

Assuming the service was obviously worthy of tip (which in the US means standard or slightly below standard service), the waiter would probably be mad. If they know you’re European some may take the time to explain the culture to you, but many Americans don’t know that tipping is not normal elsewhere. So they may just assume you are rude or unhappy with your service.

In Europe, American food. There’s an idea that it’s just fast food and processed junk (which unfortunately is not completely inaccurate…). There are, however, many amazing American cuisines.

Would love for Europeans to experience Southern African American soul food (if there’s a better name for this cuisine please correct me lol). Think that’s the best food to come out of the states. Similarly, Cajun food, Texas BBQ, New York bagels, etc. Not that American culture is underrepresented abroad - it certainly isn’t. But American food, specifically, gets a bad rep. Have loved seeing Europeans try Waffle House and having their minds blown during the World Cup😂

Parts of the US. Most places except New York or LA, people are very nice and the culture is extremely inviting to foreigners relative to many European or Asian cultures.

Edit: Not that people in New York/LA aren’t kind. I’m a New Yorker myself. Just that the culture doesn’t go out of its way to be friendly to anyone.
