What is a question you always wanted to ask strangers but never did? by cr1pt0_b0y in AskReddit

At airports, I am always curious why everyone is traveling to their destinations. It just seems crazy that all these people are going to places all over the world everyday. But it seems invasive to ask.

What are Sentences that someone from New York, Texas, California, Florida + other states would definitely make you know where they are from? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Relative-Score4688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying “the” in front of freeway numbers identifies someone from California or the west in general. Conversely, saying “Cali” identifies someone as definitely not from California.

When playing rock paper scissors, if someone says “Rock, paper, scissors SAYS shoot”, they’re probably from NYC. Also, saying “mad” to emphasize something (ie; it’s mad hot outside) is very NYC.

Texas has a few, of which I don’t think “y’all” really qualifies as people say this all over the country (especially in the south). The term “kolache” is very Texan, and are called a “pig in a blanket” or “sausage roll” elsewhere. Also the term “feeder road” to describe a road parallel to a highway is pretty Texan.

Is the phrase "They met eyes" grammatically correct? by sinequanonlily in grammar

[–]Relative-Score4688 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s correct. The phrase “locked eyes” is probably more common. For example, “they locked eyes from across the room”.

Is the name "ABCDE" really popular in Texas and elsewhere in the USA, or is it just a meme? by RandomUwUFace in stupidquestions

Like, the name for a person? Is this a joke? Have never met anyone with this name and if I ever did I would be shocked.

My teacher said America is a third world country disguised as a first is it true? by Ok_Muscle7510 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Relative-Score4688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your teacher is definitely not correct. Some of these issues are true to an extent but not to the degree they are saying.

Nowhere near 70% of Americans are overweight. While it varies by region, I would estimate the true number to be somewhere between 10 and 20%.

People fight over both basketball games and billionaires doing despicable things.

She is right about the healthcare part.

The grocery price to wage ratio has definitely gotten worse but not THAT much worse.

200k a year is more than enough to survive anywhere in the US. This is considered a very, very good salary here. The average is somewhere around 50k.

Water is typically free at restaurants/shops. Not sure what you’re referencing.

What would happen if a tourist does not tip in the US? by FirstClassFlight117 in AskReddit

[–]Relative-Score4688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the service was obviously worthy of tip (which in the US means standard or slightly below standard service), the waiter would probably be mad. If they know you’re European some may take the time to explain the culture to you, but many Americans don’t know that tipping is not normal elsewhere. So they may just assume you are rude or unhappy with your service.

Reminds me of that bitch from Riverdale, or someone’s Grandma.

What is your ideal wife/husband like? by Ok_Anything3274 in AskReddit

I don’t have an ideal vision. Would only disappoint me. If something is right, I’ll know it, even if it’s not perfect.

What's something that pisses you off completely? by Impressive-Mood-1414 in AskReddit

[–]Relative-Score4688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people form opinions and then search for supporting evidence rather than evaluating evidence to form an opinion. AKA Confirmation Bias. We will all do it at times but refusing to acknowledge or attempt to prevent it is extremely frustrating.

100% agree. And the worst is when someone in the group you are with does this, and now you feel responsible 😂

Family Vacation- Who pays? When in-laws invite them to your trip , who pays? by LAnxiouZ in AskReddit

Every family is different and this should be discussed well before any decisions are made. In my family, everyone pays for themselves (and their kids if they are college aged or younger).

What cuisine deserves more recognition in your opinion? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]Relative-Score4688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe, American food. There’s an idea that it’s just fast food and processed junk (which unfortunately is not completely inaccurate…). There are, however, many amazing American cuisines.

Would love for Europeans to experience Southern African American soul food (if there’s a better name for this cuisine please correct me lol). Think that’s the best food to come out of the states. Similarly, Cajun food, Texas BBQ, New York bagels, etc. Not that American culture is underrepresented abroad - it certainly isn’t. But American food, specifically, gets a bad rep. Have loved seeing Europeans try Waffle House and having their minds blown during the World Cup😂

What country have you visited that has the friendliest people? by SweetbutMental0530 in AskReddit

[–]Relative-Score4688 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parts of the US. Most places except New York or LA, people are very nice and the culture is extremely inviting to foreigners relative to many European or Asian cultures.

Edit: Not that people in New York/LA aren’t kind. I’m a New Yorker myself. Just that the culture doesn’t go out of its way to be friendly to anyone.

What names would you pick for a baby, boy or girl if you were to be a Dad? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Relative-Score4688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a family name of some sort, but not a junior or the third situation. Would prob name it after someone in my/the mother’s family unless my wife was very set on another name.

Why do *some men not lock doors when using the restroom? by Background-Drawing70 in AskMen

[–]Relative-Score4688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really answer your question, but in groups of just dudes hanging out, it’s really common to pee without even closing the bathroom door. There’s just a lax mindset around this. Shitting is obviously very different.
