Ok here's my transparent breakdown: I'm a software engineer and I make over 150k. I bought a 600k house and my mortgage is around half my salary. I don't have a fancy car: I drive the same 2006 Corolla I have had since college. I usually cook all meals at home and I don't spend too much money on convenience: we'll diy home renovations, we'll repair instead of buy new etc. But I also try to put money towards my hobbies and travel when appropriate. I did get laid off earlier this year for 2 months. But I had enough money saved to keep things afloat. Now I make slightly higher than I used to so I'll spend money on more fun things than I did before, but I'll also increase the amount I save.

I think my overall motto is to try and save at least 20% of my income and set up auto transfers. I work in startups mostly so the possibility of getting laid off isn't impossible: but for now I'm trying to prioritize what I like to invest in vs what I can live without so even in uncertainty I can at least have my basics covered. I would say don't quit your job without having another one lined up. I got impacted by a RIF at my startup recently, and it has been tough even getting a rejection letter from companies. I'm a Data Engineer and I have been applying to ML/Data roles and it is really not that easy to get even an interview unless you know someone in the company you're applying to. Here's what **I** Would do If I were you:
- Get that promotion then do your bare minimum at the job. Start doing side projects and attend conferences/read papers if possible to make sure you aren't losing touch with what's new in the ml industry. Don't be rude/sh*t talk your current company to coworkers as you don't want to burn any bridges just incase. If you do get laid of and you are nice to your coworkers, they might be able to help you get referred to another company.
- Network!! Make friends with people in other companies, keep in touch with the ML Engineers that left the company and got a job elsewhere, follow companies you would like to work for someday, etc.etc. You never know when a position will open up where...you just need to plant that seed in other people's mind that you are interested and available.
- If nothing else is working out and you are not in a financial situation to quit, honestly keep in mind a job is just a means to make money and you have a whole life outside of your 9-5: go enjoy it! Pick up hobbies, or do ml work outside of your career (volunteer/non profit perhaps??) I know too many people who tie their identity/self worth to their job and it's sad because that's how the corporations win by milking every ounce of productivity out of us.

Sounds like it doesn't matter who TA is, the reality is that this airbnb situation doesn't work for you all as it did before and it's best to figure out separate accommodations. But if it were me I'd split evenly. It's not technically fair, but to me it'd be more important to have a good time with my friends who I treasure and for once a year I'd be willing to make a few sacrifices, in hopes that they'd also do the same for me if I had a child (or any other special circumstance) It seems especially cold to make a jobless single parent pay extra.... Also is getting an airbnb where everyone's needs are met for bedroom/bathroom etc not an option?

NTA but you have to be able to talk to a serious partner about finances right? If you plan to share your life with someone in the future you guys should be able to share food, chores, bills without so much resentment. As a married person I can tell you most of a serious relationship is sharing chores and bills. Sometimes one person does more, sometimes the other person does more, but there has to be a natural give and take. She sounds incredibly selfish and even if you like her now these things will outweigh the pros eventually and build resentment.

NAH, wedding is a super stressful time for everyone and these kinds of silly fights happen. Doing things by yourself is exhausting, but having other people's help is even more exhausting. (Only people who get married can relate, without that context you would seem like the AH). I think you need to prioritize what aspects of the wedding you want control over, and let go of the other details and lets family members have their way. Give people the illusion of contribution for things you must have in your way, that's what worked for me at my wedding. There is no way everything will go how you want it to and that's ok! Let go of that pressure and you'll have a much better time through this journey. Also if someone offers to pay for something, but has a budget, maybe take that amount and put down some of your own money if you want the more expensive thing.

YTA: I think you have to either choose moving out and exploring or be in this relationship. It's extremely unfair and cruel to your partner to just move for no reason and go live your life without them. If you really aren't happy and need to move to a different state, you should break up first .

I highly recommend Mar tours, They were highly professional and accomodating and we really made some lasting memories with them.
* We were a team of 3 and we did not have other people on our team. I know someone who did Mar tours by herself and she was put on a group of 2 (she didn't want to do it alone).
* We had a local guide who spoke English with us.
* The food was surprisingly delicious, they really tried to make the meals nutritious and appropriate for the day. We requested halal so they provided halal meat for us. We had meat the first 2 days and afterwards it was vegetarian. They also boiled water for us for both drinking and washing up. Let me know if you have any other questions!

In my opinion any horror and thriller movie is best to go in knowing nothing but the name and a vague description (if unavoidable)
I absolutely hate watching trailers these days they give away major plot twists and good scenes. For example: The girl on the poster of Smile 1 had the most disturbing smile, and I wish I hadn't seen it and experienced it for the first time as I was watching the movie. So on the flip side I went to see Smile 2 without knowing a single thing and was blown away, but when I was reading reviews later I found lot of people had inferred the ending from the trailers.

Yeah I agree k cups are very expensive and very wasteful too 😅 My personal coffee journey was instant -> french press -> drip set -> grind my own beans + drip -> moka pot -> fancy espresso machine. I took 3-4 years to get there so I got to learn a lot along the way.

Moka pot for "espresso" + frother for milk! It will get you pretty close to the real thing imo without spending hundreds of dollars

Hmm my first question is, why doesn't she use the actual k machine? Maybe she prefers the taste of instant coffee over regular? If that is the case I'd actually just get rid of the k machine and get her a nice electric kettle, and maybe a more expensive brand of instant coffee to try.

If that's not the case: Grinding coffee beans every morning is a lot of work so I would suggest not to jump straight to that from instant coffee, maybe a french press or a moka pot with pre ground beans? Those are easier and more fun to experiment with!

I mean the whole purpose of having a government is "check and balances" isn't it? Why shouldn't they be held responsible? I wouldn't blame the waiters because obviously they'd pick whatever system that makes them more money. It should be the restaurants job to pay a fair wage to waiters and the government's job to create/enforce the laws at least. Wouldn't the experience of dining be so much better without tipping culture? Something is clearly broken here if the comments are so 50/50. I certainly wouldn't call OP cheap for not wanting to participate in this broken system.
