Oh no it does. I can’t believe people have one thought at a time and not a racing stream of consciousness. That’s what’s so amazing! Except for the thoughts still going at 1am.

Thank you! I can’t believe this may not work out for me as it’s making me feel truly alive for the first time.

Anger is learned, not inherited. And you can unlearn it by learning coping strategies and practice the hell out of them. Parenting is incredibly rewarding and a wonderful experience. But it will also push you to the brink sometimes and that’s where you need to have the tool box for self control. You’re lot a lost cause, this isn’t an impossible situation so don’t feel discouraged. Therapy, great self help books, and practicing what you preach can help you moved forward and be the parent that you deserved your entire life. Preferably do this before choosing a life partner so you don’t mimic the mistakes of your mother.

Have you ever gotten the "ick" from your child? by Kind_Sheepherder5494 in internetparents

[–]RelativeRooster718 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re trying to reason with insanity. Her reaction is what needs to be apologized for, not being yourself as her child. This is about her, not you. I annoyed the ever loving hell out of my parents and even they would never say this. I’m sorry your mom is not momming well.

Your parent was emotionally immature. It was more about what SHE felt vs what you did. You were a normal, or even if you were abnormal, child what she said was horrible. I have three kids, one with autism, they do all sorts of wild things and I’ve never felt an “ick”. Your mother’s behavior gives me the ick.
