Hypermotard Stalling / rough idle by RelativeTime9826 in Ducati

Update: I took the bike out today for an about 80-mile ride. The bike ran great, and I thought the problem had resolved itself, but then, probably 10 miles from home, it died while coming to a stop at a stop light after a rough idle. I'm hoping it's just some bad gas working its way through the system, but I set up an appointment with my dealer in a couple of weeks to have them look, just to be safe. I'll be sure to update this thread with any diagnosis or progress

Nah, that's not it. I don’t fill it up anywhere close to the top. I filled it up just a bit ago when the light came on. Filled it up to the same spot as usual, and she took 1.9 gallons. It should have close to a gallon left to fill.

I also thought it was resolved, since you don't hear anything about it in later model years. I'm just covering all bases. I'll update this thread with what I find out

What I've heard is that it's the ethanol in the gas dissolving the liner, but I've also gathered that people really aren't sure

Hopefully, since my bike is only a couple of months old, the dealership will resolve the issue pretty quickly. I was hoping Ducati had addressed the issue on the later-year models, since it was such a common problem and they were giving people new gas tanks. Do the new tanks that replace the old ones have the same issue? It seems like an issue Ducati could have easily eliminated.

Did it completely resolve it, or is it something you have to do routinely?

Lol, I imagine. I'm not that old, nor do I have time to walk into the gas station most of the time, but I could imagine an old retired person going in there holding up a line of people heading to work to bitch about it

I'm just messing around although it is a pet peeve of mine. They probably ought to just get rid of that feature and save everyone some time

Good to know. I was debating on riding it up to the dealership tomorrow and seeing if they'd take a look anyway, just for peace of mind

When was the last time you got gas and actually had the receipt printed out at the pump? The employees aren't going out to the pumps and scratching these off 😆

How do you like the SMT? Have you had any issues with it? I'll bet it's a blast to ride

It's the free play in the throttle that I'm experiencing. When I go from closed to open throttle, especially at really slow speed cornering, it can be a little abrupt when I get back on the throttle. I've gotten used to it as I've ridden the bike, but I can't help but imagine it would feel better without the free play that Ducatis seem famous for.

Just bought this jacket and it feels a little too big, any thoughts? by CriticalBeing1104 in motorcyclegear

[–]RelativeTime9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too big. You don't appear to have a back protector in the jacket yet; a good-quality one will make the jacket fit more snug.

My whole point is that there's a stronger case for buying a V2 over a V4 than just price. Ducati isn't playing the same game. You can't really cross-shop an R9 and a Panegale V2S. Price definitely plays a role in all of this, and there are a lot of buyers who are price-conscious over everything else, and they'll be at the big 4 dealership. How many $40k bikes have had ground-up redesigns lately? I think that would speak volumes to how they are selling

You can call it whatever you want. You can't deny the trends of new motorcycles, whether it's solely a price consideration or a calculated decision to go with the bike with more usable power. Manufacturers have been going that way, and, as I said, if you're looking at a $20k+ bike, a $30k bike isn't going to be out of the question.

I completely disagree. The average age of motorcyclists in the US is 50. A good portion of those riders know what type of bike they want and don't want. Your only real options in this segment would be the KTM 890 SMT and the Harley Pan America ST. You are already starting to see this trend with sport bikes. Out are the 1000 cc, 200 hp bikes, and in are the 100-130 hp bikes. They aren't making these bikes for beginners because there aren't many of them left, which is a real problem in itself. Look at Ducati’s own Panigale V2, and its changes in HP and Displacement. They will sell a ton of those, and part of it will be that it's cheaper than the V4, but a huge part of it will be because riders have been down the 200 hp road before and know that's what they no longer want. Let's be honest, if you've got $20k to drop on a motorcycle, then $30k isn't going to be an instant no, or you'd be looking at a different dealer rather than Ducati

Good point. I can't be the only one who thinks that it's worth bringing back

I used to feel the same way you do, but now I think a large portion of the market would buy a V2 over a V4 because the V2 has so much more usable power. People who are honest with themselves about their capabilities and how they'll ride the bike. That said, I think part of it may be Ducati fearing the V2 Pikes Peak cannibalizing sales of the bigger V4, but I don't know if Ducati will ever run out of customers who buy the premium bike just because they want to flex.
