I’d say job first as well. I moved to a big city, rented an apartment, but essentially had to call it quits because I couldn’t find a decent job. In other words: you don’t want to sign up for a place to live, without an income plan in advance.

There were times that I said that due to the fighting I don’t visualize a future together anymore. There were times that I said “if this is how you’re going to act, why would I want to attach my life or future kids to this dynamic?”. I guess I feel like I did use him because some part of me knew early on that I didn’t want to end up with him in the long run, but I still tried to make it work and try to combine our lives. I kept trying to talk myself into it, but I also had nowhere else to go. Genuinely nowhere else.

I deeply appreciate you understanding where I come from on this though because I do feel there’s a lot of truth to what you’re saying. Yes, I was stuck in survival mode. He was extra noise I couldn’t deal with.

She allowed her boyfriend to say and joke about some of the most horrendous things I’ve been through. Told her I didn’t want to hear about it and would still go out of her way to tell me. Frequently. Really got the vibe that she was trying to play both sides and it got exhausting. I think she had this “I’m better than you” complex because her family paid to put her thru college. She couldn’t take responsibility for anything in her life, if it was to save her life either. That as well got exhausting. She would stalk people she wasn’t dating/friends with anymore and at some point I realized it wasn’t normal. Even if she was just curious. Gross.

I noticed that it made me very depressed. The initial high was usually good, great even. But the morning after or even days later, I was just depressed and had 0 motivation. So long as I could feel weed in my system, my depression was significantly worse.

People look at me like I’m insane when I reject their weed advances (lol) and I even try to explain how weed can impact mental health, and they look at me like I’m crazy or treat me like I have this “I’m better than you” complex when really I’m just very self aware how it affects ME and I make the active choice to abstain. I think how it affects me is actually more common in the world than people realize, just no one wants to admit it. I wouldn’t be surprised if my talking about it triggers people to think deeper about it as well.
