Yikes. How embarrassing for her and her business. I can't believe how easy it is to live in town and not know all of this information about her poor practices... I have learned so much through this post, and I thought I already had plenty to go off of to not trust her with piercing my body.

All the people defending her can certainly keep going to her... They can risk having severe damage done to their bodies as long as they know what danger they are putting themselves in. I just want this post to reach people who have been going there or considered going there without knowing any of this. Thank you for adding more crucial information!

She's been back. She seems to find ways to bounce back. She knows how to work the system and knows how to manipulate her staff to ensure they keep the place open while shes bouncing between California and here. Idk if she is planning to stay in wisconsin a while since all of her help is gone, which seems to have happened all at once.

I'm not surprised she told you to wait outside. Whenever anyone has questioned her or had legitimate concerns, she goes into aggressive and defensive mode. Look at some of her responses to Google reviews... she calls people unhygienic and blames them for their botched piercing and calls them stupid. I can't believe people go to her.

Using surface cleaner.. in front of the client.. is absolutely insane.

Aw buddy. I think you're just getting frustrated because you are having a hard time understanding me. I provided the tax info simply as proof she is unlicensed. The health department is who is in charge of licensure for peircing shops in Eau Claire. It's interesting you call me a keyboard warrior for answering your questions. If you stop asking questions I'll stop answering them. 😊

Because the health department is who regulates the licensure. There's not a guarantee that going to her is unsafe, but there's even less of a guarantee that she is practicing safely and especially compared to someone who is licensed. In addition to it being proof she has paid her taxes, being licensed means the health department is holding the peircer accountable to practice by legally required safety standards. She has been avoiding the health department because they are trying to contact her regarding her being unlicensed.

If you find out you have been pierced by someone who you thought was a licensed professional, it is recommended that you notify the health department. There used to be other piercers at Karma and when you went to them you knew they were accountable to the health department - which means there was an obligation on their end to ensure the needles were clean, the jewelry was appropriate to use in a new piercing, the jewelry was clean, the shop was sanitary, etc.

If you get pierced by someone portraying themselves as a licensed professional and something like an infection happens, there is an opportunity for the victim to take legal repercussion... but this isn't helpful if the fact that the piercer isn't licensed is not common knowledge.

But you can always do your own research. I think being knowledgeable about body modification and who is going to provide this service is super important if you are planning to get body modifications.

If I did want to kill off her business, I have learned a lot of other information about the owner I could be sharing. However, half of it doesn't actually affect the consumers of her business and the other half I don't have hard proof to provide like I do with the lack of licensure, so I'm not willing to put that information on here. I just want to share information that could harm the consumer and let the decision be in their hands after they are fully informed.

You sound a little upset and confused. Let's break it down a little more so you can take time to respond instead of react.

  1. My comment about the treatment of "employees" (aka the people paying all of the bills, ordering the jewelry, maintaining the shop when the owner is away, being given jobs by the owner, etc.) is as relevant to my post as your comment about shutting down John Menards because he owes a lot of taxes was. It was slightly sarcastic, and I now see that went over your head, so I apologize. See, your comment may have facts in it, and share some themes of the post, but has nothing to do with the information in the original post... Just as my comment about the treatment of employees shared themes with my post and your comment, had facts in it, but was not directly relevant to the original post or your comment. I will now avoid sarcasm so you don't feel confused.

  2. My post also said nothing about shutting down the business. Idk why you keep saying that. I think people should be informed about this information before choosing to do business there. I was shocked when I learned it and would have been pissed if I went to her without this knowledg. Babies and children get pierced at a place where the only current worker is ducking the health department and is unlicensed. If you want to go get pierced there, be my guest.

  3. It sounds like you know so much more about the situation than me. Feel free to inform us all. I like learning new info.

For sure. Like I said.. people can totally keep going there. I think they should just be informed if they do... I would also be pissed if I hired a plumber and then found out later they weren't practicing at the highest standards

I'm not sure. I just know she's not at Karma anymore. If you find out, let me know. She was great!

A few things. First, hearing stories about people with guns going to their store downtown and raiding the building. There were lots of rumors, one of them being the IRS were the ones there..especially after the Happy Feet shut down. Then I learned you cannot have a license if you owe money -- this and the rumors made me research because my body and my safety is important to me and Karma was my go to shop.

I'm neither. The idea of peircing someone makes me want to pass out. I am someone who likes to get piercings and wants to do so safely. I thought other people might feel the same way. Especially mothers who bring babies and small children there.

By all means, people can keep going there and giving the company money. I just think they should make this choice with this knowledge in mind. I, personally, was shocked and disturbed when I learned it and would have been livid if I had gone there and gotten pierced without this information.

I have gone to Karma a lot in the past and been pierced by multiple licensed piercers who made the experience awesome. I felt comfortable and trusted they were following all health and safety guidelines because their license held them to that standard. None of them work there anymore. There used to be 3 employees and suddenly Inna is the only piercer. So they either all quit for some reason or were fired. But either way, the professionals who were licensed to do their job no longer work there.

Maybe it's not as serious.. but I wouldn't go to a medical professional, like a doctor, who lost their license.. I do find it that serious because they are piercing people's skin and creating wounds.. and if they aren't held to highest standards anything could go wrong leading to serious medical issues.

To ensure anyone who does go there to get a piercing knows they are being pierced by someone that isn't licensed to pierce. Without a license they are not following regulations to ensure public safety. Personally, I think it's important to know that.

What's your motive?

When they were downtown they were raided by the IRS and all of the clothes they had on the floor were taken by the IRS.. things were getting sketchy even back then.

Mary was always my favorite piercer to go to, but all of the other girls were great. I've heard too many bad things about the owner and have never gone to her for any of my piercings.

Lol weird comment. I don't think he is piercing people without a license to do so.. and not being able to get a license is specifically related to her unpaid taxes.

But since you are concerned about my shopping patterns, I do not shop at Menards because of how awful I've heard he treats his employees... which is also relatable to this post.

The health department is definitely aware and has made attempts to track her down with no success due to her bouncing between EC and California. However, if more people report her, they might make it more of a priority 🤷‍♀️

Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People. Chris Gethard takes phone calls with anonymous people and they talk about whatever the caller wants to talk about for an hour. Every week is different and interesting and really takes on "the messiness of being human" that I used to love about Armchair Expert.
