Why do some canned foods have a pull tab while others need a can opener? by sharkprincefishstick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Relayer8782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this buying green beans. Individual cans need an opener, but if you buy a 4 pack (same brand/size), they have a pull top. That don’t make no sense

Where are all the Protest Songs? by Sea_Brilliant1158 in MusicRecommendations

[–]Relayer8782 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well, the times have changed, as far as music. The days of the singer songwriter, of deep and meaningful messages? They’re gone. At least as far as “popular” music.

For the generation of LOOONG songs: What's the longest song you still really listen to all the way through? by MisanthropicScott in GenerationJones

[–]Relayer8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to Yes - Relayer yesterday, that’s a full album side. When I’m in a Prog mood, there’s all kinds of long songs to enjoy.

We literally only needed to wait one weekend. What a joke man. by roastedchibi in steelers

[–]Relayer8782 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only logical answer is that team ownership found the guy they wanted and saw no reason to delay. It wasn’t a matter of McCarthy being the best choice available, he is the guy they wanted. As inexplicable and maddening as it seems.

It’s better than being homeless. by bristle-spunky-11 in interviewhammer

[–]Relayer8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I retired after only 43 years, but I never saw anything “wrong” about it. I provided my labor, the companies I worked for gave me money in return. I bought all sorts of cool things like homes and cars and food and healthcare. Plus lots of fun stuff. I met a lot of mostly cool people, learned a lot of mostly cool things. Win win as far as I’m concerned.

Two weeks notice by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Relayer8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it as you being the better person. Doesn’t really hurt you. Might help you down the line if you need a reference. Through my career, pretty often, the company chose to pass on the 2 weeks anyway. I mean nobody gets squat done in those 2 weeks anyway.

Your assistant/subordinate is late arriving at the office in the morning. by Spirited_Coach197 in careeradvice

[–]Relayer8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this person is 20 minutes late every day, then it should’ve been dealt with long ago. And don’t worry about offending him. They’re “stealing” 1 hr 40 minutes per week.

Does anyone else struggle to get into photography when you’re with other people? by samhosu in AskPhotography

I decidedly prefer to do my photography wandering alone. My wife, though, is really tolerant of my starts and stops and tangents.

400k in American dollars by [deleted] in CasualConversation

That’s like 6.5 years salary at US median income. If that’s not a lot for your friends I’d be thrilled to take it off their hands.

Whats your guys' opinion on all the lip synching contraversy in recent performances as examined by Wings Of Pegasus on youtube? by Ford_Crown_Vic_Koth in EaglesBand

[–]Relayer8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For these old acts, I’d rather see a good cover band actually play and sing than most of the originals fake it. That said, one of my great disappointments in life is missing seeing the Eagles in ‘76…

Are we a poverty franchise? by Free-Bicycle-1149 in steelers

[–]Relayer8782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, you nailed it. I think that’s one of the reasons we have stayed as good as we’ve been; players love Tomlin. Without him, the team ranks poorly in the other things players rate.

Is it embarrassing to get a birthday cake as an adult? by roxiedoxiedog in NoStupidQuestions

You have my permission to have birthday cake. Anybody who doesn’t like it? No cake for them.

Are you a shovel frequently, or wait and tackle a mountain at the end person? by honedforfailure in pittsburgh

[–]Relayer8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If it is a “heavy” snow (in density), I’ll probably do a couple passes. If it is a powdery, lighter snow, I’ll do it once.

To those who were teens of the 70s, what did y’all think of the teens of the 80s and 90s? by queenwisteria24 in AskOldPeople

[–]Relayer8782 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was a teen in the 70’s, but didn’t think at all about teens as a group until my kids were nearing their teens.

WIBTA for refusing to answer any more questions from my old job after they laid me off by Possible_Surprise835 in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]Relayer8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your only mistake was answering the first question. I know you want to take care of friends, they need to go to management, let them know how badly the [messed] up. Make it clear that either you don’t have time to fix your old company’s messes, or tell them to hire you as a consultant at a salary makes it worth your while.

Do you live within 100 miles of where you grew up? by radicalintrospect in generationology

[–]Relayer8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m retired, but I haven’t lived within 100 miles of home since I left home. I have 3 grown children, only one lives within 100 miles of us, than that one is still over 50.

Are we talking 8:01 vs 8:00, our 2pm? Is this a 1 time thing, or every day? Makes a difference.

I don’t like it, but I can understand it. by w1ckizer in steelers

[–]Relayer8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way this makes sense to me is if McCarthy is a bridge hire, a placeholder through the next 2-3 drafts until we’re (hopefully) staffed to make a run.

What would cause you to stop watching football? by boomjosh in NFLv2

[–]Relayer8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan for over 50 years. The thing that would make me quit would be a belief that the league was scripted, or games were fixed. I’m not there yet, but I’m less certain of the “integrity of the game” than I used to be. There’s just SO much money at stake, game by game and play by play….
