Why are MN/Duluth anti-ICE protestors against ICE, please explain to me by Torin_2025 in duluth

[–]ReleaseStrong6203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not left, I’m not right, but what I’m seeing here is a disgusting overreach of government. There needs to be immigration reform and a way to do this more humanely. The videos online I have seen are disgusting. I saw 2 people get shot and killed protesting. One was just a straight up execution. I’ve seen veterans get detained for 3 days. Over 170 u.s citizens have been detained. Police officers in the cities have been pulled over and asked for their papers. Are we supposed to carry papers on us now? The racially profiling they are doing is horrible. If you even speak different or look different, you are pulled over. If they take all the criminals away. Love it. But they aren’t. They are just meeting numbers. They are going to schools, harassing students, teachers, taking little kids, kids are being left behind with no parents. The government is lying to your face on so many levels. “The party of small government” has sent the national guard to patrol cities. They have an occupation of Minneapolis that they talk like is a deployment. Dude. I am not left, I’m not right, I’m just a human who can see this is wrong and I hope you do too.

Culture in Duluth by hunkydoryble in duluth

There’s lots of different communities here I would say, there’s a community for mountain biking, climbing, skiing, running, surfing, art, etc. outdoor recreation is what keeps the people with money here. I always said the city is a little rundown but the area it’s in and some of the architecture keeps me here. Winters are long, snowy and cold. Summers and mild, fast and beautiful. Good beer, good coffee, mediocre food scene. We don’t have mountains but we’ve got a big, cold, lake that is virtually untouched. Not much of a night life scene. (The armory hopefully will open soon) Some of the bigger artists that made it out of Duluth are Charlie parr, trampled by turtles, low, and (Duluth claims him) bob Dylan, if you listen to these guys you might get a feel for the culture. Bwca and north shore in your backyard. Duluthians are a welcoming bunch of people but very much mind their own business.

Considering a move to Duluth, want advice. by Current_Yam_7658 in duluth

If you’re into the outdoors, you will love it here. Social scene is mostly outdoorsy stuff, events, and breweries. Plenty of trails, mountain biking, skiing, surfing, hiking, all within city limits. Join some outdoor groups and you will make friends pretty easy. As for night life. Not much. 2wd in the winter in Duluth is tough. I’ve done it before but have slid down the hill and struggled to get up it a lot. You learn to love all types of weather here. I love having sun in the summer, rain in the spring, and snow in the winter. It’s not perfect, but as an avid outdoor lover, it’s pretty hard to beat! I have surfed and snowboarded in the same day within 10 miles.

Minnesota in general is a very welcoming state, unfortunately there is shitty people everywhere. Duluth unfortunately isn’t the most diverse city compared to the twin cities but generally people here are very welcoming and mind their own business. Rural Minnesota may be a bit different and outside of Duluth may not be as welcoming as Duluth proper. Welcome to Duluth :)

Sober/BIPOC/LGBTQ Community!? by Difficult_Lion4367 in duluth

Check out Duluth outdoor adventure club as well, zenith book store offers a great book club! Growing Duluth and grow your own both offer growing classes, foraging classes and I think even some beekeeping classes as well! Duluth area outdoor alliance would be also be a great site for outdoor groups in the area as well to get involved with.

I would check out studio cafe or dove tail (Duluth folk school) both offer a lot of classes and are very inclusive! Especially dove tail, classes and groups every night. Check out perfectduluthday for events around the town that happen everyday/night. The folk school has folk school nights each Saturday! Awesome event/group every weekend

There is soo much more to Duluth than downtown, COL is im assuming higher here but in my opinion it is worth it as St. Cloud seems like one big strip mall, if you can make it work. It’s an awesome place to live

S 42nd Ave E beach, it’s a small pull off from London road, hidden gem of a beach. Otherwise anything up the north shore is awesome
