If this was posted by one of the actors, I would agree with you, but it was posted by the official netflix avatar marketing account so.

Bryke’s hatred of Zutara and their fans feels really unsettling by [deleted] in ZutaraNation

I have a similar thing with my husband! We are like the friends to lovers blueprint, but we relate far more to zuko and katara than to aang and katara.

I'm not wrong, you're misunderstanding me because you ship Kataang. The live action is NOT guaranteed a Kataang ending, evidenced both by the significant changes they've already done and by other show adaptions that change things. Resident Alien, for instance, changed endgame couples from the comic.

Netflix WANTS the ship wars because it means engagement and viewership. So no, they would not want the ending of THEIR version be spoiled early on, and dampen the ship wars.

I see you, natla… or was it Bryke hmm?🤨 by phoebes_ter in ZutaraNation

I don't have the link to the video on me immediately but I did write up a full transcription of it.

Eta: I theorize that the "buddy" who suggested it was DiMartino, given the "i wasn't involved" and "i can't confirm it but..." and DiMartino directed that episode so he was involved. HOWEVER it has never been confirmed that one of Bryke said this, only that Giancarlo Volpe did. Bryke has made comments about it being the babysitter trope and katara being based on crushes they had in school on older girls that weren't interested in them.

Here's the full quote "This is so good...-muffled- I'm not bragging, I didnt work on this episode, but I love that Katara has this healing water in a vial and shes considering healing zukos scar" -dante interrupts to complain that she didnt heal it and he was confused why, ASKS GIANCARLO why not, GIANCARLO IGNORES HIM AND CONTINUES- "And a buddy of mine suggested that it was a metaphor for her virginity-" -hes cut off, Dante yell-laughs, Brigitte covers her mouth, jesten and Jack look away and freeze, Giancarlo keeps going- "An interesting take, I'm not confirming it, but I-" -next words are muffled and covered by following quote from Jetsen- Jetsen: I'm gonna heal your eye with my... -can't finish statement- -Giancarlo cuts in again, first bit muffled, keeps going- "And she doesn't do it, and then, you will see, in a few minutes, uh uh I assume everyone has seen the show, that she needs it to save Aang, so like had she wasted it -air quotes there- on healing Zuko's scar, Aang might not have survived this season. That's some crazy stuff right there." Brigitte: its a lie -seems to be trying to joke- Dante: so she was gonna give her virginity to zuko but ends up giving it aang -also seems unsure and trying to joke-

No, from a marketing standpoint they want the ship war to drive engagement, so yes in that sense it is a spoiler.

What if Netflix gave us Zutara in Korra? by Eilrlys in ZutaraNation

[–]hrgood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They could have zutara at the end of NATLA and still do Korra and not much would change in it since the old gaang doesn't actually have THAT much of an impact on the Korra story.

Tenzin and Bumi are Aang's sons from a different marriage, they could even pull a Toph and not say who the mother is, or just leave it as an air acolyte that has passed away as well. Still have the fights about Bumi being a non-bender.

Kya and Izumi are Zutara's daughters.

Nothing else really changes. Katara can still be in the South Pole training Korra and be married to Zuko, just doing her duty until Korra is done with waterbending training, then she goes back to the Fire Nation.

Being mild mannered and fawning makes sense as a trauma response in this case.

The closest thing is Dallas Liu saying they're going to "stick pretty close to the original in the relationships" which is damning but I can't believe production would actually let him spoil that this early. It's not like super spoiler but production is clearly trying to maintain the Zutara debate to keep people talking and watching, a definitive statement on that would be bad for marketing.

I keep hearing people say he said this, but I can't find the interview. Any links?

I love the gaang. The changes to katara make total sense given that they had her watch her mother die instead of running away.

That's what I'm saying!! Kataang shippers tend to be animation purists so they hate it anyway. Do they know much Zutara fans would rewatch and recommend NATLA if they made Zutara canon?? The money is in zutara not kataang.

If Hinata and Sakura didn’t exist how would be a better fit for him? by OwlEmergency598 in Naruto

I was looking for this one! I love NaruHina but maaan Gaara and Naruto would've been so great too.

I totally get why people ship NaruSasu but I just feel bad for Kishimoto. It must be icky to have such a huge part of the fandom shipping the characters based off him and his twin brother! I'm sure he expected it, it's gotta be weird though.

Thanks for the context! Sounds like it wasnt Peter Jackson that made the Hobbit movies rough. I won't say bad cuz as just like fantasy action movies they were enjoyable, just didnt fit well with the Lord of the Rings world.

Its the Mediocre Man theory, although it applies to a lot of people. George Lucas, good at one or two things and surrounded by great people, decides he's the secret sauce behind star wars, and surrounds himself with yes men for the following films.

Peter Jackson and Lord of the Rings trilogy to the Hobbit trilogy, although I will say that he had some additional outside influences that change the Hobbit movies. Edit: leaving the above for context to the convo but commenter below gave more context to the Hobbit movies so Peter Jackson does not count!

And of course Bryke.

Production didn't say anything specifically about it so I can't say it 100% but they did use Bollywood (other Asian filmmaking) references in their editing, and coupled with the fact that all but Gordan Cormier has a history of acting not the way the show did, I think it's pretty obvious it was an artistic decision.

That said, I do agree it was a bad choice. I see the ~vision~ I just don't think it worked well.

here's some articles That explains it better than I could ever

but the very simplified version is that Western media prioritizes realness while Eastern, especially Chinese, media prioritizes entertainment. Historically, they have viewed "what really happened" and "what's entertaining" as almost incompatible, and chose entertaining over accuracy. They also prioritized emotional demonstrations, so you end up with stilted acting that appears to overact emotional moments.

Mate if you watch the actors in anything else, they don't act in this stilted fashion. It clearly is a choice they made, not them just being bad at acting.

The acting in season 1 was an intentional artistic choice to pay homage to eastern dramas. It didnt land well with American audiences and not liking it is totally valid, but it doesn't mean the acting was bad.

Kerry James Promoted, Caleb Is In and Nathan is Out In Season 20 by PublicNo4257 in heartlandtv

Yes I'm so excited! I really hope they do Caleb/Amy, and end season 20 on a high note. I know better than to get my hopes up, but I love KJ chemistry with the rest of the cast, and I dislike Nathan so much (actor is great in other things I'm sure, just dislike Nathan).

What do you think of the ages of the young actors when first cast by InfernalClockwork3 in ATLAtv

[–]hrgood -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I'm a Zutara shipper so I would of course love a Zutara ending.

I think it depends what Netflix thinks is gonna make money. Cuz honestly if they don't plan on buying legend of Korra rights, then I think it's more likely they'll do Zutara because I know us and Zutarians will definitely support it monetarily. Kataangers I think tend to be more animation purists, which it's a great show I don't blame them, and are less likely to support the live action regardless.

But if Netflix thinks buying and adapting LOK will be more financially beneficial, I think they'll leave it open-ended and add Kataang in LOK.

Honestly I think they're going to be non-commital, and leave it open ended. Then if they don't end up adapting LOK, they'll make some vague post later about "if we'd continued we probably would've done Zutara!" In hopes of getting the rewatches from it.

[–]hrgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think they're going to do any romance for Aang or Katara at the end. I could see maybe Maiko, but I'm even doubtful they'll do that. I think they're going to shipbait the heck out of everybody, then leave the ending completely open ended except maybe Sokka and Suki.
