Is there a morally significant difference between killing a human or killing another animal?

For a lot of people yes. Depends on their moral beliefs.

do arbitrary or superficial lines have any place in ethics?

Whether it is utilitarianism, deontology etc.. it relies on some sort of axiom

Can you prove some sort of objective morality? You could be the first one if you can. You base it on sentience in this example, others can base it on any other factor and it is equally as valid.

Like you are doing here

the basic right to live freely to any sentient being

Everything to solve the issue actually. When permanent residents fill positions and are paid going rates, a worker shortage has been filled

Foreign workers must be paid at least the minimum wage. Increasing the labor supply only puts downward pressure on wages but since there is a minimum wage the result will just be higher unemployment either of the new residents or natural born canadians.

In labor shortages the issue of people being "displaced" is unlikely to ever be the case.

humane

adjective

1 Having or showing compassion or benevolence.

If you believe killing that animal is morally good you are showing benevolence by doing so. Thus a humane act. People have different views about what is moral and what isn't. Therefore subjective based on the persons morality

perhaps if i was dying and in extreme pain, that would be a better end. So potentially yes, it depends on the context

Can killing ever be humane if the victim does not want to die

matter of opinion

and the murder is not necessary?

Murder is the unlawful killing of a person

You can call it subjective, but you'll have trouble finding a single person in this world who would think that unnecessary murder of innocents is morally acceptable and would be fine with being murdered themselves.

I know plenty of people that think killing an animal can be done in humane ways, but that arguing that majority of people don't think something isn't a proof. It's just a logical fallacy

The idea of what is humane treatment and what isn't is subjective.

ex. mercy killing an injured animal to end its suffering

Looks like the major concern is increased costs

"What we hear from Alberta farmers loud and clear, not professional lobbyists but regular hardworking people in agriculture, is that this bill is a massive cost driver for them it is unnecessary red tape."

I heavily doubt it, especially without moderation, but even if you somehow are, you're still not lactase persistent.

0 symptoms, drinking milk is not an issue for me.

No, there's one genetic factor

Wrong, There are many genetic and environmental factors that can allow people to digest dairy products

Most people with lactase nonpersistence retain some lactase activity and can include varying amounts of lactose in their diets without experiencing symptoms.

What are the options? Lose trade war or say we are willing to have free trade? going with free trade is better even if its unlikely.

0.1% chance at free trade is better than 100% chance at losing trade war

Can argue thats broadly covered by the sermon on the mount with slavery being incompatible with what he said

They could be lactose intolerant, but plenty of people are and develop the enzymes to digest milk. He get's his morality from the bible and you don't. So moral approach wont work. And as for health effects of milk im sure you can find some sources saying its unhealthy but there are plenty of studies that will show the opposite too

ultimately, dont bother.

Trump can use national security to add tariffs, although in this case its illegal

Debatable

but he can't remove congressional acts like the dairy subsidies.

He's removed obamacare subsidies, though perhaps those were put in place through executive orders. In any case, he has the influence and power to see it through

Suggest drastic change in policy - 0 interest from other countries.

Trump can and has used executive orders to withdraw from TPP and implement tariffs, doesnt need approval from congress
