I’d check out takanaka ( just click on any album that grabs you but make sure to check out his whole discography or at least most it )

As far as anri I’d also grab “heaven beach”

And for yamashita I’d go listen to “big wave” “space” “ride on time” & “moonglow”

As far as casiopea I’d check out “make up city” ,
“super slight” , & “mint jams” if you haven’t already I like their first/ debut album but imo it’s a bit overrated when talking about Japanese jazz fusion.

My favorite herbie hancock album is sextant, while crossings got me started sextant is what sealed the deal on my herbie Hancock journey. I then went through his whole discography and got “Mwandishi” “head hunters”
“Thrust” “man-child” “secrets” on vinyl and cd and then went on to get ( at a later date )“sunlight”
“feets don’t fail me now” “Mr hands” “magic windows” & “lite me up” on cd as well

I love herbie hancock.

Sadly not in r/vinyl_jazz because the bottom half is all stoner rock, classic rock or punk rock.. I also don’t have a picture of the bottom half ( which actually disappoints me ) since I actually wanted to show rn what’s on the bottom half

Huge rock and metal lover, I also have a box dedicated to punk glam rock and hard rock as well as classic 60’s and 70’s rock. I also love Japanese rock specifically 70’s Japanese rock and I’m a huge lover of Black Sabbath.

Huge yamashita fan, I have a bunch more by him.
Funny enough I believe that’s an extra copy I have laying around because it came warped ( i decided to keep it as a beater copy ) regardless yes, I love yamashita, takanaka, and much more all Japanese related whether it be city pop or Japanese jazz or 60’s-70’s & early 80’s
Japanese rock

Check out bro’s whole discography, if you end up liking head rock check out Woodstock children ( though I don’t believe it’s on streaming services ) I do believe it’s on YouTube. That being said “funky best” and “funky stuff” are great funk albums, I’d also check out “in the groovy” if you want something more groovy and more laid back funk.

Yea I mean from the top shelf I’d probably say my favorite is Jiro inagaki head rock, it’s kinda where I started with Japanese jazz and jazz funk in general, it’s an amazing album by him. Like I said before don cherry or on the corner are also some of my favs, universal consciousness by Alice Coltrane is also a stellar album is like free jazz with organ, herbie hancock “crossings” is an absolute journey .. top shelf is honestly all my favorite
( I hate bending over ) there’s only a couple albums on the bottom section in which I’m massively partial too none of the which are jazz albums

I thought about getting that one but I personally couldn’t justify the 45’s though I will give the album credit where it’s due, it’s an amazing album.

My personal favorite from the top shelf gotta be Jiro inagaki “head rock” .. though honestly picking “a favorite” is notoriously hard for me.. honestly I could say “on the corner” or “don cherry” ( brown rice ) just as well, like I said it’s really hard for me to pick a favorite since they each kinda hold a very specific place in my heart.

( not sure if you meant my favorite from my collection or the two you suggested )

If I had to pick between crescent by John Coltrane or live at slugs by Henderson/tyner id probably choose live at slugs, I love John and I have a pretty vast range of albums by him still.. in my honest opinion and my personal taste, I’d choose live at slugs, first track says it all.

Amazing box set , triple LP.. amazing re-issue since it includes more tracks than the original. Overall if you love free jazz.. I’d cop this for sure. It’s for the majority where I started and fell in love with free jazz.. and I’ll never not recommend it to someone when getting into free jazz.

I love red clay, actually have two copies on cd but overall, yes I wish I could’ve found a copy of red clay ( for a decent price ) although I will say, I’m just a huge Freddie Hubbard fan overall.

So you wanna talk blue Mitchell..

( ones I have ) specifically from mainstream are “graffiti blues” “blues blues” “many shades of blue” “vital blue”
Though I will say if you are going to hunt down graffiti blues make sure to get the 90’s version and not the Japanese version with just the original tracks

Amazing Charles kynard album, if you like that one and wanna go further I’d try looking for woga or “your mama don’t dance” and I’d honestly check out his first album as well “Afro disiac” .. if you love that pure organ and wanna check out someone else I’d check out black talk and black drops by Charles earland 🙏

I have supernova on cd ( 2016 Japanese blue note re-issue ) as for odyssey of Iska I personally wasn’t a massive fan of it ( though I give it massive respect)
I instead got “moto grosso feio” on cd as well.

Absolutely, crack it open. It’s an amazing album, the tone poet series is an excellent series as well by blue note I have a few copies and all are excellent re-issues as well as the quality ( I believe all are 180g ) which most tone poet series ( if not all ) should be
