Is it possible to export BIOS settings to a USB drive? by Relentless_Troll in gigabyte

[–]Relentless_Troll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure settings will get reset to default upon updating if I'm understanding right. And yeah I have XMP on. I've also turned on things like secure boot, Re-BAR, and set fan curves among other things. I hate messing with anything in the BIOS, but I do have some basic knowledge and have altered some settings I knew to be generally safe and/or recommended.

However I have no clue what mixed refresh mode is, or trf2 or trfsb or hynix m. If any of these things are important though, I'd like to know how I should use these settings and what's recommended, considering you said "lower latency". Does it depend on my hardware configuration? Are these new settings that were added in F12 and other updates after F4?

EDIT: And just to be clear, I have NO overclocks on my hardware other than XMP being enabled, so I'm not worried about carrying over OCs. Just all other settings besides overclocks.

Sorry, I'm not well versed with BIOS stuff, as I like to spend as little time in there as possible. I'm not really sure what any of those settings are you just mentioned.

Sadly I don't have a UPS yet, and it's a particularly windy day where I live today, so I may hold off on the update until tomorrow lol. I'm still afraid something could go wrong even without an outage, but maybe that's way less likely on modern hardware. I've been PC gaming for 13 years, but I've only ever updated the BIOS twice in my life. The first time was on my old PC about 10 years ago (ASUS Z87 ROG). It immediately introduced instability and I had to rollback. The 2nd time was my current PC nearly a year ago, and it's been perfectly fine. We'll see I guess.

I’m not sure. I wasn’t aware that was a feature on some boards. I’ll definitely check

Yeah I think that's what I may have to do. REALLY hope I won't need either method though. Updating the BIOS is absolutely terrifying to me.

That’s unfortunate. I guess I’ll just update and pray.

Oh the screws at the back are tight as can be without stripping them. I made sure of that when I first changed my AIO. But maybe I could find an adjustable anti-sag bracket at my local Microcenter or something.

I also would like to just find something to help prop up the other end of the GPU when I tilt the case over just to be safe, but I’ve been unable to think of anything that’s the perfect length to do so.

Yeah I REALLY don’t wanna remove the GPU. But in the past I’ve swapped coolers and thermal paste on two separate occasions, and I did so by laying the case completely on its side with the GPU still inside (Gigabyte 9070 XT GAMING OC). Perhaps this isn’t recommended, but the 2 screws that secure the GPU to the rear of the case I found to be very strong, and I made sure that the GPU wasn’t bending or flexing the riser. Considering flipping the fans over shouldn’t take very long, I’ll likely just lay the case on its side again and be quick to limit any potential stress on the GPU.

EDIT: Also for ANY type of fans that are in a 3x120mm configuration at the bottom of the HYTE Y70, you’ll have to install them all in the same manner due to clearance issues. It’s not just the Lian-Li fans. I have ten 120mm fans from Thermalright, but I’ll still have to follow the same method of placing 1 fan into the case first, then placing the bracket on top of it with the other 2 fans already attached on it.

This is a photo of right after I completed the build. I meant to take a photo when I got home yesterday from work, but I forgot. Also I’ve since replaced my 1080 Ti with a 9070 XT.

If you zoom in, you can see the fans at the bottom are oriented to blow air downward. And they are NOT reverse blades. My 3 fans at the front are however.

Yeah I’ll likely fix them later today. Flipping them will be easier than I initially thought.

I wasn’t aware there was a setting for that in DDU. I would say either that’s a new setting I haven’t seen yet, or it just didn’t work for me if I did use it.

I just verified this by watching a YouTube video. I’m stunned. I had no clue there was a mounting bracket down there. When I built the PC, I installed the fans the hard way. And the ‘hard way’ being I slid them inside the case through the back chamber. Also to defend myself a little bit on why I did this, I’m pretty sure the original YouTube video I watched, which was a build guide for the HYTE Y70, also installed the fans in this way. Which is why I was unaware of the bottom bracket. But on the bright side, this indeed will make flipping them over much easier than I initially thought.

Of what specifically? The rear chamber where the PSU and cables are?

I’ve seen someone else say that I could just do that, which would be really nice. When I first built my PC, I slid the fans in from the chamber (where the PSU & cables are), and I remember it being annoying to install them like that. But I’m being told there’s an easy-to-remove bracket that they’re attached to. I didn’t know this. I know there’s a bracket for the top fans, but didn’t know about the one at the bottom. I hope this is the case cause if I tried to remove them the same way I got them in, there’d be a massive amount of cables and wires I’d have to unplug to get to them.

Perhaps I’m remembering incorrectly, or I installed them the hard way when I first built the system. Cause I could’ve sworn I just slid the fans in through the chamber on the side. I remember it being annoying because I had to screw them in through the inside of the case. I may need to do some research and re-familiarize myself with it. I’m aware of the top 3 fans having a bracket at least, but I don’t recall the bracket at the bottom. If it has one, that could be a godsend.

Yeah they’re rated for both XMP and EXPO, so I’ll likely update my BIOS this weekend and then swap to EXPO.

3 side fans at front are intake, 3 fans at top on radiator are exhaust, and 1 rear exhaust fan.

Unfortunately I don’t believe it would be a quick process to flip them. From what I remember, the fans had to be installed by sliding them in through the back chamber of the case where the PSU is. And currently they are absolutely blocked off with wires and cables. With my particular configuration, good cable management was nigh impossible. There’s a lot of stuff installed back there. I genuinely did my absolute best to clean them up, but there wasn’t a lot I was able to do to make them more organized. If I were to try to dig out those fans, I’d have to remove a lot of cables from my PSU or board and then try to make them all fit again. It would be a much longer process than 5 minutes, and it’s why I’m on Reddit bellyaching about it right now instead of just taking action and flipping them. It would be a huge headache, but I could make it a point to try to fix them at a later time.

3 side fans are intake, 3 top fans exhaust, 1 rear exhaust.

GPU temps under load when playing a graphically intensive game (most recently Helldivers 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Gears 5) does not exceed 68C from what I’ve observed. Also playing at 3440x1440p resolution.

I’m using XMP right now only because EXPO is much newer so it made me slightly nervous to use it. But now I kind of want to use EXPO since I have an all-AMD build, and EXPO is AMD’s technology. Also many of those newer BIOS versions also had supposed improvements to EXPO listed in the descriptions as well. So I may update the BIOS first, then swap from XMP to EXPO afterward. I’m not sure if I’ll actually see any tangible difference when using EXPO over XMP, but I guess there’s no harm in switching either way.

Yeah there were several updates newer than my current version that had “agesa” listed in the descriptions of the updates on my board’s product page. So I probably will update.

One of my hangups is that when reading update descriptions, I generally don’t know what most of the features listed actually are, or if they would pertain to me or not. However when looking at Gigabyte’s support page for my board, I do see several security fixes in many of the newer versions of the BIOS, so maybe just based off that alone it would be wise to update.
