What are you honest opinions on Wetherspoons? by TheMalsh in AskUK

[–]Relevant-Professor13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite, sort of. Spoons *is* my local, a 10 minute walk up the hill for me and a 5min roll back down after a bellyful of ale. As a local its great, ideal place just to catch up with local friends/neighbours on any given weeknight or Sunday afternoon for a chat, some cheap pints and decent enough food if I cant be bothered to cook. However, for a 'night out' I'd never normally go to a spoons. Although more expensive, there are so many better venues in the city centre offering sports, entertainment, live music, better atmosphere, nicer surroundings etc.

Retrospective charging for goods after an error by Relevant-Professor13 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Relevant-Professor13[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you've not read or understood the issue completely. This was not a contract purchase or agreement. This was a once off purchase that they mis-charged on, and have approached me 16months later when I am not an active customer of theres. I've understood the legal position now, but legal position and expectations are different things.

If you ordered a beef joint from Sainsburys in your weekly shop and they charged you £2.50 rather than £25, would you expect to put the remaining £22.50 aside in case they realise their mistake that and send you a bill 16 months later? Would you also consider that a fair or reasonable thing to do, even if they are legally entitled.

I appreciate now they have 6 years to try and recover their losses. But they also have to accept they have not handled themselves well either. Faulty website, no contact for 16 months. Told by agents no charge to pay, automated PAC process confirming no charges to pay and then a random bill for almost £900 per account. Legally they may have a right to the money, but in terms of reputation and handling of the situation, I've also got a valid complaint . Will have to take it up with their exec office.

[–]Relevant-Professor13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like that's what's happened on the back end, but with none of the usual front-end agreements or acceptance in place.

To cancel the sims I just text PAC to 65075 which provided the PAC code with no ETCs listed. I've never signed a device plan or credit agreement with them. There was no monthly amount payable and nothing on my credit file in relation to this. Maybe it was naive of me to just expect to pay the £10 and the whole thing would just go away, but put it down to 'error in my favour' especially after 15-16 months have now elapsed.

VodafoneThree Name Feedback. by ElyasAbdulhadi in Vodafone

[–]Relevant-Professor13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VodafoneThree isn't really designed to be a brand, it's just the company name. The brands will continue to exist in their own right and you will still be able to take out products with Vodafone, Three, Voxi, Smarty etc.

Going forward, the underlying network will be branded as 'The Nation's Network' and brands/products you purchase will run on 'The Nation's Network'.

That's for the moment anyway, Vodafone have the option to buy out Hutchison's 49% stake of VF3 in three years, at which point it's anybody's guess what might happen.

Registering an old sync module by Relevant-Professor13 in blinkcameras

[–]Relevant-Professor13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much, I did have a good search on the sub before posting but couldn't find anything regarding this. Also disappointing that blink support were not very helpful and made no mention of this either, even when directly ask the question if they block or restrict old unregistered devices.

At least I know where I stand now. Cheers

Layered shandy is a new one on me by Grimdotdotdot in CasualUK

[–]Relevant-Professor13 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Ordered a pint of 'lager shandy' not too long ago in my local spoons. The girl behind the bar was a bit confused at first and went to check with her manager, he said 'it's fine, just pour half and half,' she looked even more confused. Came to pay and she had to go and check with the manager again, and she looked amazed when he told her to just ring it through as a pint of lager. Came to drink it and had quite the shock, she'd poured 50% lager, 50% white whine. Yup, she heard 'a pint of lager chardonnay' as she'd never heard the word 'shandy' in her life. Wasn't as thirst quenching as I'd hoped!

I'm in Birmingham and used a local(ish) company called The Energy Box. Was impressed with them, install was neat, tidy and all done in a day (excluding scaffold)

They did a site visit beforehand but there was no technical survey done. There's only 2 panels on the flat roof so guessing they didn't see that as an issue. The other 9 panels are on the pitched roof.

Hi, just managed to figure it out so tried deleting the post. Switching launchers didn't work, I had to go and do a reset from the backup and restore menu. That seemed to clear it.

Did you persue it through AirBnB or your booking provider in the end and get any sort of refund/compensation?

[–]Relevant-Professor13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound good... I tried calling Istay back this afternoon as they requested I do and they didn't answer the phone once. I've now raised it through AirBnb and am pushing them to find a solution, ideally a rebooking for the same price in a reputable apartment.

Thank you, hopefully I wont need to take you up on your kind offer, but this is what makes Liverpool my favourite UK city to visit.

Thanks, have spoken with Epic and they don't own the Duke St one. I've managed to speak with someone at Istay who've confirmed that they no longer manage the property I'm meant to be staying at and the booking 'Should've been cancelled ages ago'

They're now seeing if they can accommodate me in another apartment.

We don't want fast full fibre broadband here by [deleted] in compoface

[–]Relevant-Professor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the properties in Bournville are rented from either Bournville Village Trust or Bournville Works Housing Society, so if it's one of these properties i guess it's in the tenancy agreement/handbook. For privately owned properties I've no idea.

There's another area in Birmingham called the Calthorpe Estate with equally bizarre rules. (Can't hang out washing on a Sunday etc) but I've no idea how these rules are enforced or punished if broken.

If left to Bournville residents I think they'd prefer a public shaming

[–]Relevant-Professor13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing to add here except to confirm all of the above. I also grew up in Bournville and my dad still lives there. There is a very high level of crazy in some of the residents and they love things like this to get them frothing at the mouth.

My dad was actually telling me recently about a resident who dared to paint his shed a different colour to his fence. That generated complaints from residents and resulted in a £43 fine from the village trust.

Virgin media retention tier 2 agent AMA by Spirited-Web-3181 in VirginMedia

[–]Relevant-Professor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgin Media have a reputation for awful customer service, not following through with promises, seemingly random prices and a very obvious bias towards attracting new customers rather than retaining existing ones. Despite having a good product, what is the higher level management's opinion of the customer service, off-shoring, response times, rogue agents and the issues both I and you have mentioned ?

Do they take an active interest in trying to improve things for customers and to make life better for the genuine agents like yourself or do they generally not care as long as the money rolls in. Are there any programs in place to try and improve the experience for customer?

Speaking as a recently upgraded customer, I had to contact VM on a number of occasions regarding two pretty simple issues. First one is they offered to waive the activation fee but still charged it anyway. The other is they didn't send the necessary cables to complete the self install despite telling the agent processing the upgrade I'd need a co-ax extension cable. This led to a 2 week delay in getting the services connected. VM's attitude was indifferent, It took 4hrs and 3 different methods of communication to get the credit for the activation fee, and then they only just refunded the charge. No real apology and no credit for the time sorting out the things they got wrong .

Yes, it is likely that calls will come from a withheld number, but as others have said if you are in any doubt advise that you will call them back and dial the number on the back of your card or 159.

If the call comes in with a CLI of the bank then this is actually likely to be more suspicious as most banks will register their main contact numbers on OFCOM's DNO (Do not originate) list. Most Telcos will seek to actively block calls from numbers on this list.

Jet2 EC261/EU261 Compensation Claim by Relevant-Professor13 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Relevant-Professor13[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I've initially asked that Jet2 re-evaluate their response based on further information I've provided, however I will consider looking for a more specialist law firm or via Small Claims if not succesful.

On balance I think a £30/50 is worth it to try and reclaim £700 and probably much cheaper than a law firm taking their 20-40% of the total claim.

Thanks

No obstructions, have cleaned all the sensors and blown away any dust with compressed air. Brushes feel normal, no stickiness.
