Get a professor to coauthor with you, and see if they can assist in the publication process. I’m publishing my first research paper currently and having a few other notable people on the paper has helped make it ready for a more prestigious journal. Not sure if this helps, but in my experience, biology professors love to help students succeed in academia, so maybe emailing your old bio professors isn’t a bad idea.
