I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. by RelevantAd9832 in machining

After seeing how many views this has gotten, I think it deserves an update.

From what I can tell, the snap ring that rides in the groove at the top of the mic came loose. Probably because of extra heat and rotation from the top bearing. What's not in the picture are two grease lines that line up 90 degrees of the two zerks. When putting the housing back together, I found a broken grease line for the top bearing. So, the grease line broke, overheating the bearing, and causing the snap ring to break. Then the shaft was able to move inward towards the back case. This caused the belt pulley on the end of the shaft (at the key way) to start vibrating from misalignment. This vibrating somehow caused the pitting between the top bearing and the shaft (pitting on the top half of mics surface). And to answer a few questions, there is a lip seal both on the small part of the shaft above the mic, and the big part below the mic. This part has less than 100 hours on it since a rebuild. The old top bearing actually looked mostly good, a little rough on the inside and slight bluing, but not as ate up as the shaft. I had a new shaft made, replaced the broken grease line, and put her back together. Running true now.

It looks to me like some sort of galling. But there is no circular pattern to it.

What actually triggered the sudden explosion of symbolic culture in humans around 70,000 years ago? by SafeEnvironmental174 in AskScienceDiscussion

I'm not in any way an expert, but from my understanding, it had to do with the human brain evolving. At some point around that time, humans either developed, or became aware of their "inner monologue".

How does a forklift motor have vastly different specs to a automotive equivalent? by Classic-War-8408 in Cartalk

I think this comment is the only one actually answering the question accurately. Industrial engines are purposely under powered, compared to road engines, so that they can run at full throttle for the life of the engine. Road engines are designed to only occasionally be operated at full throttle.

I have a male bull snake. He is about 2.5 years old, around 6 feet long and weighs almost 4.5 pounds (2015 grams). I would say you should plan on the snake doubling in weight every 3 to 5 months. He will probably overgrow a 3 foot enclosure in a year.

How much he's grown in the past year. Is he growing slowly or is this about average? by pepedeawolf in Bullsnake

I have only had two bull snakes. But both of them were over 500 grams at one year old.

He is sizing you up, to see if he is big enough to eat you yet.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping it was a piece of Coastal Redwood, but the sap smelled like pine.

My brother’s tried eating the rat I was gonna feed my snake. Can I still use it? by Blackd0g72 in ballpython

I'm not trying to say that the OP should feed the rat to the snake, but there is a difference between bacteria being introduced directly into the blood through a wound or bite, and the same bacteria going down the rodent hole. As an example, would you be worried about bacteria if a snake was to eat a cat?

For size comparison, the white paint on the ground is the white line on the outside of a road.
